Are there any demerits for this and what is the $$ fine?

At the Nelson Rally I saw 2 gsxr 1000s with their plates tucked waaaaaaay down the rear subframe and angled down. No way a speed camera could read those, unless it was buried in the road facing up! I very much would like to know if that is legal....if it is I am so in!

i know its not legal, but is it a demerits offence and how much demerits?

Im sure that its not legal - thats why the nightster had to have the numberplace mounting changed from the 'cool' US version to the Kiwi and UK versions.

Weather the driver gets demerits - Im unsure, but I thought that this was more for 'actions' like speeding, failing to give way, stoppies etc not the condition of the bike.

i guess i'll have to wait a couple of weeks and find out what comes in the mail.

No. They must clearly visible and readable. You cannot obscure a plate either - $200 fine if I recall correctly.

From memory, I think it was $200 for no plate. I didn't think any demerits were applicable, but this may have changed.

Remember, you will stick out like big dogs balls without a plate and it makes you an obvious target.

I guess you'd be told that you can not ride your bike without a registration plate and will be given a lift by the cops to a place(i.e. the local police station) from where you can arrange for your bike to be picked up.

I am assuming that given you are asking about the fine that you have not yet got a ticket for having an obscured plate or lack of a plate..... yet.

No plate and obscured plate were $200 each and as far as I am aware no demerits. Ring a local station and ask them to confirm it for you, or ring the police infringement bureau and ask.

Or just get pulled over.

i did get pulled over, should of put it on the bottom bolt, not the top one lol. hes sending it in the mail, so its a 50/50 chance i thinks

So you are telling me you got a fine for having the WOF slide down over an otherwise clearly displayed plate?

Were you doing anything else wrong? If not, that seems harsh. Mind you - you have a bit of history with the police don't you RM (speeding etc)? that would negate any chance of any warnings no doubt.

You got toasted.

CVIU - Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit. They specialise in heavy vehicles - mainly trucks. Most of their patrol vehicles are some sort of 4x4.

I'll be ROFLing so hard when you get stopped during a court/police operation, and your bike gets confiscated for unpaid fines!

You'll never lose that L plate will you RM?

Oakie

No, no demerits. It's not a road safety offence.

Seen quite a few riders with "carefully" placed WOF holders on their plates... Just placed to blank out a certain number, or just to increase doubt?

Strange guy pulls you over, doesn't check your license, but now knows what address to send your ticket to. You've now got a stalker or just a new friend  :bleh:

Well, all I could find was THIS (http://www.knowledge-basket.co.nz/regs/regs/text/1999/1999014.txt) gem on demerits for offences OTHER than speeding...

And nothing in it about number plates...
