Ok, couple of nights ago someone tried to nick my bike. The bike has evidence of big big hole in the ignition barrle.
I did not see him. It happened when I came out to go to the AWNMR.
Quite shocking really.... well thank goodness that the bike was still there (atleast!)
The damage wasn't that bad, just now I can't lock the steering.
Lesson learnt:
Carport is not good for bike storage
Auckland central is NOT safe
Don't let the guard down!
Dear fellows, if you have the lock, then use it right!
There are lots of threads about safety and security in KB, but just reading doesn't help, you must DO it!
Right now the bike is tied down to a pole via the frame  with a thick thick Oxford chain.
Good lesson was learnt for me. Well, for fun I stayed upto 4am looking out the window trying to see if they would come back (It was fun really)
but sadly they did not come :(
Overall: Don't let your guard down! If you doubt, then they will take it!

Yep, security is very important.
Mine is garaged with a monitored alarm and my cellphone rings if the alarm goes. The neighbours have guns and dogs. We have very good support for each other in the rural area I live.
A good alarm system, good neighbours and dogs are great deterents - especially when used together. Ambivilent attitudes to burglar alarms and suspicious activity is often a real downfall.

Just be careful mate! Remember he is already armed with a screwdriver and may have mates so no matter how mad you are don't go after him, it's not worth getting killed for. A few months ago a guy in Rotorua(I'm pretty sure it was Rotorua anyway) chased someone who just mangled his mailbox - and was murdered for it! A bike or a mailbox aint worth it!

Hey EJ - I was sorry to hear about this last night. I know you love your bike and this was real personal for you.
BUT - Remember (as posted above by the wise man just above) - its never worth approaching guys like that - Just yell that you are calling the police - a screwdriver thru the ribs is a real bastard (I should know**)
So keep safe out there
** The last guy I did it too bleed all over my new sneakers
** just confirming that was a joke for the nana's

Crickey - thats gotta put the shits up you mate. So happy to hear the lil' critters didnt get away with your pride and joy.
Makes you double think where you park the beast from now on I bet. Think about those lucky people (kiwifruit, you, you....you...) with the real expensive bikes like MV's and Ducatis and all them....think what must go through thir minds.

Because the Police do nothing about them, if they do catch the crimz, they slap them on the hand and send them home..prob with the bike they stole.
Bring on the noose for any bike crimz.

Have a friend of a friend who imported one from the UK to Japan. Heavily modified and very stylish, as far as Austins go
That's a bitch, EJ. New ignition barrel expensive? Did they actually get it around to the `On' position so you could start the bike?
Gah. That's a pisser. I sleep safe in the knowledge no fucker would have the patience to start the bike. They would just think they hadn't managed to hotwire it correctly while they keep kicking

Sorry to hear that EJ! I hate most of all thinking that there's people cruising around looking for opportunities. I have installed a ground anchor on my drive and am happy to do one for you if you'd like? Can be ground down (if your patient) when you leave your flat so landlords shouldn't give you hassles about it. The kinda bikes we have I doubt will be tragetted so it's just to deter the opportunists.
Already posted pics so it won't let me again but here's the links;

Oh EJ! You poor bugger...sorry to hear, but yeah, at least you still have her. When 007XY and I moved, we struggled to find a new place, even thought the only thing we insisted on was a lock up garage! Bikes first...:2thumbsup

Can get one for $10 (still need to get bulbs) from Mitre 10 Mega and Bunnings etc. Add an extension cord and your on. Does definatly make a difference. There are lots of things you can do for cheap. Wire with bullet connectors on that triggers an alarm in your house etc. A few little bits and pieces and your on!
