View Full Version : Thank-you, Okshon! Or my new shiny bit

Used http://www.okshon.com for the first time and the item just arrived today. My thoughts on Okshon? Excellent. It's an English brokerage/interface to Yahoo Japan Auctions, which, being Japan, has a seriously large amount of bike bits and pieces for very cheap prices. Unfortunately due to the circumstances with the particular item I purchased, total cost shipped approached nearly twice the selling price for the item in Yen, but it was still way cheaper than buying it elsewhere. Reason it was so expensive was I chose the fastest shipping, was a cheap item (so Okshon's admin fees took a large chunk compared to the price), and was relatively dense. It took a while, too -- first the item has to be shipped from the Yahoo seller (going through the normal auction process) to Okshon's warehouses, then they have to clear it and all kinds of admin stuff (your payment too), then it has to be shipped again here to NZ. The shipping to NZ was the fastest part of it all.
What did I get? This shiny new speedo. It's tiny! Gorgeous little thing. When I got it out of the box I was a bit worried for a second as it looked photoshopped, but after I'd handled it and put fingerprints on it I realised it was a real item. Only goes to 140kph, compared to the way-unrealistic 180kph of the original speedo, but it is a CB250RS  At least more of the range now is useable, I just have less bragging rights to little kids. Perhaps I should change the text below the numbers to `mph' instead of `km/h'
Now I just have to work out how to mount the bastard. Nothing really to bolt it to. Maybe the headlight?

Thanks for the tip on the new website - that was really handy.
Mounting - where you have it now looks good. A couple of bolts and a bit of 4x2 and you're away!

Got the Shocks for the Katana via Okshon. Bloody good idea and with the exchange rate at the moment it is truly an excellent experience!

The stuff on Okshon for older Japanese bikes far outstrips anything you can do from NZ or through manufacturer distributors in NZ for OEM parts. The prices are just about unmatchable. You can go for genuine parts or aftermarket too. The choice is brilliant and very wide-ranging. The NZ bike market is mostly about near new bikes or muntered 250s. Everything else falls into a gap when it comes to manufacturer support, for Japanese bikes anyway.
Does that answer the question?

or muntered 250s
You can say that again, over priced muntered 250's at that...but thats another thread.
It does answer my question, so its near impossible to find good classic style motorcycle parts in NZ....can I ask, how much was that speedo including postage?
Thanks Jim. :)

Spot on. I saw mint CB250RSs with 15,000kms on the clock going for chump change. And the accessories; my speedo sold for just under 4,000 yen, which is about $NZ48. Of course shipping and fees took that right out, but I couldn't find anything like that here that looked as good new or used (and didn't look like it would fall apart), and even the unsuitable stuff was well over $100.

Oh ok, I had no idea the NZ market for classic motorcycling parts was so bad. Mind you, going by the prices of motorcycles (mostly 250's and trail bikes) I can see that the parts would go for a stupid amount of coin.
Good find mate!

The market for Classic British and US bikes is awesome. No one thinks of the Japanese bikes as being Classics though. At the moment it's all just old munt with a few exceptions.
Of course some of us know better.

Well, you've got Kat, and then you've got RS. Not quite on the same page, but they're both old and that's what counts  One other thing that adds to favourable conditions in Japan is that a huge proportion of people ride around on <=400cc bikes, because a full licence is insanely difficult to get. See posts made by Ambler on the subject. So small-to-middleweights are very popular and the older ones are looked after for many years.
The problem now after finding Okshon is stopping myself from buying up all of Japan. Problem is, my albatross (read: credit card) is secured against my bike. So if I buy up too much then I'll be left with armfuls of parts but no bike to glue them too :D
GB250s are popular over there. I want a front guard, and a rear guard. And they do a mint aftermarket cafe seat for them, too. Similar frame. I wonder if those bits would fit....?

Xerxes is a retro biker in a young man's body! I think he needs the silk scarf and pudding basin helmet and aviator glasses to go with the look!

...in case you hadn't noticed - I AM BLOODY CHUFFED!
Your "Ok!shon" has just (if it's all worked proper) got me a new swingarm (Bell Nicky - or Nicky Bell) for the Duc! WOOO HOOOO!
Now just have to get it from Japan to NZ.... ...just waiting for Ok!shon to do their next bit...
Hopefully, Santa will get here after the swingarm - but I won't complain if he delivers it personal like...
Bling coming!!

Hey, cool man ;) They might take their time doing `their bit' -- they might've gone a bit faster in my opinion. Hope the fees and shipping doesn't bite too hard either, but it should still end up cheaper overall than sourcing it locally.
Have to go over there some day, sounds like a biker's paradise -- apart from the insane licence tests and lack of twisty bits around town (which is a bit hard to get away from).

Fees were Ok - < US$50. Have to wait for the vendor to get the stuff to the Okshon warehouse, so they can start the shipping process...
Hell - cheaper than local? I couldn't even track down a standard swingarm for the Duc - let alone a handmade braced aftermarket one locally. In fact, the only aftermarket one I could find, was around NZ$1200 new, from the UK... God knows how much a genuine new one would be... (This one has cost me about NZ$580.00 so far - plus shipping to come).:soon:
If this shipment goes well, then I'll definitely be doing a few more deals! I spotted all sorts of goodies for my various bike and cage projects on the Yahoo.jp auctions...:woohoo::niceone:
Dunno about riding over there. Far too much traffic and regulation for my liking. Europe (in the mountains - any of them) is much more fun...
