Another biker was hit today morning while commuting on the busy Auckland streets. Some of you might know Matt (Winter) a fellow kber. He was hit by a car and broke both his arms in 2 places each. He is currently in Auckland hospital Yard 75 room 2 in case anyone wants to visit. He asked me to post this up here as a reminder to all bikers. Ride safe out there folks and remember cars can't c u so well. He is the 2nd guy this week who has not got off so lucky.:argh:

Yard 75? Izzat meant to be Ward 75? Sheesh, I knew they were short on space, but that takes the cake!

Bugger! Best wishes to him for a speedy recovery. Having one's arms or hands out of action really puts a damper on life.

lol nice 1!! I typed it out as he texted it to me!

You trusted the text spelling of someone on drugs and with two broken arms?

Anyway "get well soon winter!"

Any more info about how it happened? Or do we need to wait for his arms to heal up so he can tell us about it himself?

Don't know Matt, but all the best buddy. This sucks, just plain sucks. I was gonna suggest if he was okay about it to post his cell # and we could send him some txts to cheer him up, but I imagine that wouldn't work either.

Just got back from visiting Winter in ye olde Auckland hoospitaal!

He was remarkably lucid considering the droogs they've filled him up to the eyeballs with ... wandering around shirtless and catching the eyes of the student nurses  ... lucky lad eh? :msn-wink:

I'll let him poink out the details since he will be there for a wee while yet, getting a laptop in soon so he can keep up with the KB frolics! :sweatdrop

I did ask him the most important question ...

"How's the bike?" :devil2:

He shooed me off 'cause he wanted to get some good ol'horspital food in his tum-tum ... and didn't want me to hang around to see the jab in his bum-bum

Eeeek, both arms!

I think Shakespeare said it best: Now this Winter of ours is discontent.

(With apologies to the Bard for the slight modification).

All the best for your recovery.

I visited his room this afternoon. He was transferred to room 8c from room 2. The room has a wide window (W~I~D~E). Hes got a million dollar scenery indeed . Hope that helps him heal :)

He seems alright (good), but looks very tired becauase of all the drugs he got from surgeries.

He showed me the X-Rays and omg it was horrible :gob: I shall tell no more lol

Well, he also mentioned about the student nurses being kind to him (:argh: jealousy ) I should break my own arms too hahaha

When my dad was in a hospital, he told me how boring was while staying in a hospital bed. So I suggest maybe (if it's ok) we should go sometime and visit him

Suggestions?

Winter

Did they tell you what happened yet?

yeah.

i was riding down my street, a lady did a right turn from a side street and drove directly into my path, we hit head on.

I apparently landed a few meters behind the car.

A witness travelling towards me says she saw the driver look to her left, see the witness's car, then gas it to get infront of the witness car, collecting me in the process.

I'll never know if I managed to brake or swerve. I feel I ride defensively enough to avoid most accidents like this. As I have no memory of that day I'll not know why I couldn't avoid it.

Sounds like a similar situation to me mate. Riding defensively, expecting a moron to do something like that and doing everything you can to be in a position where you can swerve or brake if required.

As I found out (I can remember the accident as it wasn't as bad as yours) you can be doing everything right and still get taken out. I had just enough time to start pushing on the bar to countersteer before I hit and I was only dong 20-25km/h.

Heal up fast eh!

I think we should get you some really good quality porn movies and let you watch them alone.....with all them breakages you wouldn't be able to sort yourself out so to speak....that'd be really funny.

As I said in the other thread. Heal soon, heal well and hope to see you again on your bike...or another one paid for by the driver of the car.

Hey Matt, Hows the recovery? Yes that was cool of you leaving the choc and strawberries for me...although I must say it took me a while to 'suck' my way through the strawberries cause i had a broken jaw in three places...lol! but its the thought that counts! I'm still being lazy at home lying around doing nothing...could get used to this life :-)

Enjoying your new internal go-fast bits? How's the arm functionality and pain levels coming along?

Edit: Both forearms broken. Hmm. Top tip: the Den sells these (http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=7116334&cart=645025798)...

Where abouts are you staying now? How long did you end up staying in horspital?

Should get out for a beer sometime, if you can manage it.

Functionality getting better each day, pain isnt too bad, off the drugs except at night to put me to sleep and when going to the pub - then its fun.

Living with my gran I'm not sure how the conversation would go when a delivery man turns up with a 'pocket pussy' for me.:gob:

next time im out, however ;)

I got out after two weeks...which was heaps quicker than they orig thought (4-6 weeks!). I'm only on panadol and tramadol for pain now so I'm doing ok. Re the beer, always keen but the problem is I get knackered after being out for more than two hours so as long as you don't mind me having a kip at the pub i'm keen. Otherwise we'll wait a few weeks so I can stay out longer ;-).

Cheers.

Well Last night I celebrated the one year anniversary of my crash!
Had a few bevvys with some mates and ripped a stonking burnout on the footpath outside work.

The latest news is the lady has another court date on the 2nd December for her careless driving causing injury charge.. Which means shes still been driving this whole time! Over a year before I get to feel any justice!

I still have all the plates in my arms, they don't give me too much trouble, only one of them sounds like a rickety old garage door opener!

Stay safe and kill the cagers before they kill you! jks

Ride with your brain engaged. It's not the cars that can't see you...it is the dicks behind the wheel. Unfortunately we have to do their thinking for them.
