Laptop recommendations?

am after a cheap [ie, less than $100] laptop thats ideal for storing digital photos, and maybe limited net use. have looked on trademe, and most of the cheap ones are faulty [no memory/battery/mains cord, or else the screen is rooted.]

what do you guys recommened? operating system doesnt worry me, just want something i can cart on the bike when travelling to empty memory cards. the lighter the better, of course. dont really want to buy new, or spend more than a hundy or so, since i will barely be used.

I use a 2gig flash drive that does the trick. Cheap as

You are probaly better off just buying a few memory cards, depending on what your camera takes you can 2-8 gigs of storage on one card for under $100

8 Gigs is ALOT of photos from one trip

Any laptop that you are going to find for $100 will probaly have less storage then that

I think you'll probably have to compromise a bit for that price.

But think about the actual requirements. For example, you've pointed out that many of them have dead batteries. Is that such a big problem? When I've been traveling, I've almost always stopped for the night somewhere with power available - whether at somebody's house, or in the kitchen at a camping ground.

Or if you really want small and light, and can go up a bit (ok, quite a lot) on the price, have a look at the Asus Eee PC at Dick Smiths (XC5809) - seriously small and light, and under $600 brand new. I've been very tempted, despite having just bought a full-size laptop ...

Edit: the downside, of course, is that it only has 4G of flash ram instead of a hard disk ... they also do a bundle with a 160G external drive for $700, or you could collect a few usb sticks ...

If you fill up your memory cards just go into the Red Shed & get them downloaded onto DVD & clear your cards for more pics.
