I had thought of flying down and doing the Hotel thing and flying back...be cheaper to go to Melbourne and see them there on March 16th and fly back straight after the concert. Plan is to bike down, sleep at train station, listen the concert from outside the Stadium then bike home...now thats cheap!

A pentecostal church is planning to protest against it.... SATANISM is feared. Saw it in the newspaper today, hilariously naive.
A crusade is looming as church groups prepare to take on heavy metal heavyweights poised to play in Wellington over Easter.
Wellington pentecostal church Lifepoint says the lineup of bands - including former bat-biter Ozzy Osbourne and Kiss - are "not appropriate" and will have "negative influences" on the city during the two-day Rock2Wgtn festival on March 22 and 23.
They plan to lobby other church groups and will look at taking their concerns to Wellington City Council.
"It's not appropriate from our angle of things," said pastor Karen Crawshaw.
"I don't think we can force our views on others but at the same time we think it's a very negative influence on our city.
"It'll put a damper on the things the church traditionally focuses on at the Easter season."
The condemnation follows confirmation that another hellish rock act, Finnish heavy metal band Lordi, has been booked to appear at the Wellington event.
The band, whose five members dress in elaborate costumes as monsters and demons, won the Eurovision song contest last year.
The winning song, Hard Rock Hallelujah, includes the lyrics "I got horns on my head, my fangs are sharp and my eyes are red" - and prompted Finland's religious leaders to warn that the band could inspire devil worship. But vocalist Tomi Putaansuu, a former film student who calls himself Lordi, denies any Satanic leanings.
Concert promoter Phil Sprey has said the concert's lineup, expected to draw 80,000 people to Westpac Stadium over two days, would have a broad appeal.
Mr Sprey said the names of three more international bands and "two or three" Kiwi acts would be released over the next three weeks. The music would appeal across the generations - from children, to people in their 60s.
"It's a celebration of a weekend, a day everyone's supposed to be happy and cheerful. All we're doing is adding to that," he said.
But Ms Crawshaw said the music genre "brings together people who have a great deal of pain".
"I guess they find expression in that but it doesn't have a positive answer. The Easter story has a positive answer."
Father David Kennerley, of St Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, said the issue was more a reflection on how society was, rather than a religious matter.
"It's not the sort of thing I'd be going to," he said.
Mr Sprey said tickets would be available through Visa pre-sale on December 17 and to the public on December 20.
Prices would be announced shortly.

Hey Dudes and Dudess,
Woodybee from Queenstown here.
The above concert is on 22nd 23rd March.
I am swopping my 2 wheels for wings and I have just booked a ticket to fly from Christchurch on Good Friday at 0645am and fly back East Monday same time. Will book tickets for show tonight or tommorow. Reckon it would be fun to do the front standing, its $390, but its for 2 nights, so its going to be worth it
Anyone, wanna come with me and do air guitars, to Ozzy, Whitesnack, Kiss, ooo the list goes on:woohoo: They still have 2 main international acts to announce.
I know this thread is not announcing a rally but its the music we all shake our heads to bop to at the rallies, so think its worth a mention.
So dust off your dancing boots, grab that eye make up and put stars around your eyes, and come and partttttttttteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee:wari:
PM me if your going and be fun to meet up in the pub before hand.

I get to Welly on the Friday, and my hand luggage, will have a couple of bottles or red and some beer in it, as well as the black eye make up for Kiss, any one else going to do that to themselves.
If there are any Wellies that have a hard and fast time to meet, then lets seal the deal and get the ball rolling eh.
What about after the Saturday concert, as the great words of the song say "I like to Boogie:wari:so I think we shoudl all partake in some beerio;s after that, somebody know a pub afterwards.
So we need to fing a place for a piss up on Friday (if the good lord hasn't shut them all down:devil2: and a venue for Saturday too.)
What do you say, start getting names and get it organised?

He reckoins his band to be a new version of Kiss. Same style of rock with the make-up and show to go along with it.

David Coverdale can still deliver and what a fucking voice, for old bastards they know no limits when it comes to to getting crowd ready for crazy night. Spoke to guy this morning at Wellington Airport, he said '' how ironic to see God on Easter Sunday''....OZZY was without doubt the best of all acts over the two nights....i think anyway.

Right. Been there, got the T.
In order:
DAY 1
Lordi - Professionals! Worth to be drawcard. Many were surprised about the quality. And the ones who did not get the costumes needs to learn to laugh!! (But then I am partial...) 9/10
Alice Cooper - Top one. Seamless, all class! The only thing he did was to get more fans outta this! ( Outstaged Jesus on Easter!!! To hang and resurrect your self inside 5 min. What a performer!)10/10
KISS - Facepaint, tired songs played in a tired way. "We are here because this is what we do..." 5/10
DAY 2
Poison. - The only band that got the whole stadium involved. Not bad from a bunch of semi retired musicians with songs from early 80's! 6/10
Whitesnake - David Coverdale is all class. OK, so he survives on songs from the past and he admitted that they dont do many shows anymore... Only outstaged in professionalism and down to earth by Alice. Might not have been music for the younger crowds. But I give him 7/10
OZZY - The drawcard. Heaps of F**K. And more F**K. I did see him 30 years ago when he just got kicked out of Black Sabbath. He was in much better shape now. (And he is now overweight and has NO rythm!!!) But he is a crowd pleaser. You have to love a guy who survives and survives and... And he can still sing. So 8/10.
To the organisers:
1. The NZ guitarists: Why did nobody tell us who they were? Why did nobody tell us who was voted winner? Why did the 3 top ones not come back second day and play a minute or two with the bands: Winner with Ozzy, 2nd place and 3'rd place with the one band they liked best? Lost opportunity!!!
2. First day: top job, seamless, smooth.
Second day: limping, too many gaps filled with pause music!
3. Weta Workshop: After 30 seconds the dragon had lost it's magnetism (But it kept going for ages...and came back next day...) NEED MORE NOISE, MORE BANG.
4. Guitarists on fire: WOW!!! Why did we not see them closeup properly, whole show on bigscreen???
5. The NZ bands. A mixed bag. Some of them forgot they were there as "warmup bands" and got too worried re cowd not supporting them. Grow up.
AND MAKE SURE THE BEER IN BOTTLES DOES NOT RUN OUT NEXT TIME!!!
But all in all. I recon you hit the spot. I be back next year. For sure. I give you 7/10.
But to fill the stadium: Mix in a "todays" band each day (OK, so Lordi is todays, but not well known enough yet) and you have the younger crowd lining up.
Oh and: I hate you guys for selling me two tickets at $250 ea in first week of ticket sales. And then 3 weeks out from concert you drop price... Like Ozzy would have said: " For F**K's sake, what the F**K was that all about???"

Yep shame about ticket prices dropping a few days out.
Seems that it will be touch and go whether it makes a profit, they gave away a few thousand tickets late last week, and the promoter isn't sure if he will do it again.
Good on him for trying to give Wellingtonians something to stay home over easter for.Maybe one night next year, who knows.

My Day 2 thoughts.
Poison: Pretty good, coulda have been better.
Whitesnake: Alot better than I thought
Ozzy: Good, but not great. But still it was ozzy FFS. Zakk's fucking long drawn out awful solo made me want to shoot him thou.
Overall I think Kiss were the weakest link of the whole weekend. Which is a bit of a shame.
I fully agree on being better prepared with regards to beer stocks. Was truly sad. Also closing the food stalls so early on sunday night. I could understand closing the bars early, but why the food? I wanted coke during ozzy :-(
Severe lack of larger sized shirts. Only shirt I got in 2XL was the actual rock2wgtn one (and they were $10 more on the night than from the website!). One stall told me noone got any 2xl's, another told me the thought they had a few but sold out real quick. Who knows.. bad voodoo thou, I know quite a few people were pissy about it.
Also the whole limits on the number of beers you can buy at once, esp when they reduce it later in the night. I know its standard event management practise these days but its still fucking bullshit. Although I did manage to find a till where a chick was on the take, pay her extra and she'd serve you extras :-)

Mmmmmmh, I haven't been that impressed by Lordi. They did their job fine, but I found that their pyrotechnics fell flat. It was like they were following the 'Good Rock Show 101' plan. By comparison, Alice Cooper didn't make a show, he WAS the show.
Not too impressed by the other animations either. There was nothing wrong, but they just felt unfinished. The 6 guitar players thing was too long, the guys on fire, well, felt a bit out of place, the dragon was cool but seeing the people moving it made it lose its magic, etc.
BUT THEN, THEN, THERE WAS Alice Cooper! WAOW!
As for Kiss, well, maybe we were too tired after 5-6 hours there in the cold. With more public support, it might have been different. It was still awesome, though, maybe we were expecting too much.
Oh, and I wish I could have met with the Kiwibiker crew for a drink this week-end. I'd like to put a few faces on those nicknames, but there was really too much going on.

Well as an out of town visitor attending an event where I was going to get to see one of my all time favourite acts performing, along with an act that my hubby needs couselling for (sorry babe I dont really mean it), I was all geared up to have a really good time! And I did!!
No apologies here, Alice Cooper did it for me, BIG TIME!
My Day 2 thoughts.
Poison: Pretty good, coulda have been better.
Whitesnake: Alot better than I thought
Ozzy: Good, but not great. But still it was ozzy FFS. Zakk's fucking long drawn out awful solo made me want to shoot him thou.
Day 2 for me was an opportunity to see a bit of a rock legend, and see him I did! For me he delivered up as much as I expected, and a bit more. Zakk Wilde reinforced how much I love a string picking man. Ozzy is showing his age, and it sits really well on him! FFS he is 60 odd years old!!!
I saw his bum!! Not sure too many 60 y/o men would moon a crowd of 40K+!!
Poison was not such a draw for me, but I managed to sing? along to a couple of their songs, they were out here having the best time, and it showed! Whitesnake, David Coverdale, what a voice! He is no youngster either and still has the voice!!!
Easy to criticise, we paid more money than we should have to go this weekend, but there was no way we would have missed it!!
Venue needs some attention!
End of first night of raving I went to the toilet, busting as you might imagine, NO TP! Lucky I had a "wee" McDonalds tissue in my pocket, saved my day.
Next night in, need some food, go and buy a hotdog. The chick handed it to me, and I refused it as it was cold. She went and got another (from the bottom of the warmer) it felt warm until i bit in to it! Stone cold in the middle! Got fries (cant get them wrong eh?) They looked like fries, smelled like fish, and tasted like????? Disgusting! Long story short, the food there sucks!! Overpriced crap!!
Go for a tinkle before the event gets under way, NO TP!! next stall, NO TP!! FFS I need TP!! wandered along checking stalls until I found a supply, used a tiny bit, took 2 lots of "incase I need to go again"
How hard is it to make sure the ladies have toilet paper? Ran out on the Saturday night, know there is a shit load of us back again Sunday and dont replenish the TP!

My very quick thoughts of night 2 (Didnt go to night 1)
Poison - Very Good (should have been on just before Ozzy and not first as they really worked with the crowd)
Whitesnake - Boring (ok, 2 songs good, rest boring so I went and got coffee)
Ozzy - Excellent (brilliant opening, good mix of tracks and great stage presence)
---
Weta Dragon - OK (looked nice, but needed to do more than act like a nodding dog, also really needed the people hidden)
Cheerleaders - OK (but you couldn't see details even on the screens)
Fire dancers - Meh (seen it before)
Fire walkers - Good (but again needed to be closer or at least on the screens for more than 10 seconds)
NZ Bands - OK-Good (Sonic alter didn't really do it for me, and I don't think the last band had their name up on the screen)

The second NZ band was Symphony of Screams. I actually felt really sorry for them. We have seen them perform live and they really know how to rock! The lead singer has a great voice that he knows how to use. Pity of it was the sound was so appalling for their act the first night no one got a chance to actually hear what they are capable of. They have a CD single just released , title escapes me at the moment, go and hunt it down and have a listen. It is good!

It was alot worse.. trust me.. I enjoyed the BLS gig, this was just awful white noise as a cover for ozzy having a break.
Partly agree, OZZY needed a break (probably hasn't stood for that long in 10 years) but Zakk did a brilliant job IMHO just went on toooooooooo fucking long!!!...( I did feel a yawn happen thru' that solo) that cames back to Mr Osbourne, taking way to much time getting out of the lazyboy :(

Best acts of lot was Alice Cooper, and Poison as a whole

Lordi - I dunno. Not my bag but I stomached it along with a couple of maggot packs, and a few bottles of that plastic Tui shit.
Alice Cooper - The a wife beating baby killling mental bastard. I absolutely loved it. Really well played, sung perfectly, and a really great show. Seamless and professional. Wicked drum solo! Should have been the headliner for sure, and played for longer. In fact, fuck the other two bands... I could have done Alice all night.
KISS - Once again not my bag but I thought the show they put on was well played, good and professional. I liked their stubborn determination to stay with the old school stage show. All in all very impressive in fact. Then again by that stage I was well out of it and somebody hopping around on one leg playing a kazoo and lighting matches might have been enough to stimulate orgasm.
Poison - I was feeling a bit shit from the night before. The last thing I needed was an 80's hair band playing bad songs badly and without proper sound checks done. Even though they had motorbikes on the screen (I was still fizzing after dragging my Hardly out of storage while I was up there and undertaking irresponsibly fun hung over cobweb removal for the first time in a couple of months that afternoon) I couldn't wait for the set to end to be honest.
Whitesnake - I was kind of hoping for a bit of Deep Purple thrown in there but I should have known better. Whitesnake has never been a favourite of mine but still, I really enjoyed the show which was as well played as Alice's only without the theatrics and I would pay to see them again. David Coverdale's singing was right up there (as I would expect!).
Then the main event for me - Ozzy. The act I'd been waiting for for so long. A dream come true you could say. Hoping to hell he'd pump out some Sabbath... and he did. Badly. A shame that the band wasn't close to cohesive, the sound levels were all over the place, Zakk was stuck on the guitar solo for way too long waiting for Ozzy to come back (Mrs. fell alseep during that solo for fuckssakes), and Ozzy's singing was out of time with the band. Bugger. I'm still really glad he came down under but also bitterly disappointed. I expected a whole lot more from somebody who's been in the game for so long. Gutted big time.
Get your arse back over here and do it again Ozzy.

Hear what you say MOM,when a show is promoted and tickets could be scarce you get in quick, especially when travelling.
By the same token when booking, earlier ticket purchase the flights would've been cheaper, than waiting till last minute.Get cheap concert tickets but pay double for flights and then no accomodation.
We were same with Clapton at the mission, tickets sold within 3 hours of opening, next choice tardme, yep paid some dude 4&1/2 times his purchase price, but would I regret it not being there, damn farkin correct.Life is way too short to not do it,hell when is the next time you will see any of these rockers again,if ever.

We went up for the 2nd show, thought poison was ok, Whitesnakes sound was very basey\muffelled at first but got it sorted and rocked out with still of the night, And I thought OZZY was Orsum:Punk:, His voice was so powerful and was pleases to hear the early ozzy material, crazytrain, suiside solution,mr crowley. bloody good ROCK:Punk:
Did anyone notice the big clear full moon n southern cross that night.
Hope they make it an annual event.

Right. Been there, got the T.
KISS - Facepaint, tired songs played in a tired way. "We are here because
To the organisers:
Hey dudes and dudess's have only just got to write a review on this as have had the worst kind of muscle cripling virus known, anyway less of that, other than to say in a true ozzy fashion, it has fucking well really fucking hurt.....
So as for KISS, tired songs, played in a tired way.............I would like to disagree wildly, as,perhaps it was because I was absorbed totally in their atmosphere being at the front......but the warmth that the front crowd generating them was enough to fry an egg on, and I don't think they were tired at all, they buzzed ladies and gents...... in the land of buzzy things, they were kin buzz, so in the most friendlies way to those who thought KISS weren't good:motu::nya:, they made my whole concert rock. And they aren'e tired songs man, they are legends in the own right, I would like to see you riding your bike in the same way after 25 years of zooming around............They fucking rocked for me........................:msn-wink:
Lordi were extravagantly outrageously funny and very clingon star trekky and for me, went on a tad too long and the songs were samey, so I wonder how long they will last, I don;t think I shall be rushing out to buy an album of their's if I do it will only be coz I watched them at this spectacular event.
Alice Cooper, god that man is a god, was a theatrical experience to sit and get carried through, it was a like a fantastic read unfolding before my very eyes, that guy illuminated the stage, like a comet which has been bursting to get into the atmosphere for years..........he was such a class act and is one of the chosen few to one day sit around my dining room table.
KISS.....well you know my feelings, I could write reems on them, they were engergetic and you could feel they wanted to be there, so much so I bought a flaming guitar in Christchurch before coming home.....look out rock.......(Acousitc with an Amp bit if I want it.
POISON......the male brady bunch, all good times, and very very professional and muscially fab, I loved this group and would buy a poison CD.....yep thought they were great.
WHITESNAKE......I have loved this band for years, and I loved his English Accent...being a pom............but they were pollished to extent of gleaming musical brilliance......I loved ev er second they were on and really didn't want them to end.
OZZY.....Fucking Fun you Insane Rocker,I love ya........what an entertainer, just wanted to grab him and cuddle him, was expecting to get a winey old has been that couldn't do it any more, but was excited and so relieved to see this guy rocking the whole of wellington to breaking point, god that atmosphere was electric. Ozzy if you surf the net to find quotes on yourself, (as I am sure any person would after a night like that), then you are one of the best acts I have ever seen mate, clear and concise brilliance, well done you, wish I could have run into the geezer whilst he was in QTown......oh well mate we shall meet again one day eh.
As for the organised events, I think on a scale of things, it was up there, there are always going to be grumbles, but I thought it was fab.....althought I do agree I would love to have seen those flame dudes, and the burning guitarist as a main act on stage during the interval....although logistically that may have been a problem
I now want to add this to my wish of what to do with lottery winnings. Follow rock concerts all around the world, and rock myslef into oblivion.....what a fucking laugh that would be
Great to catch up briefly with the KBers....sorry it wasnt for long, but a brief encounter is better than now at all, and shall be passing though your great nexk of the woods in November when I do my SOUTH TO NORTH FREE SPIRIT TOUR, if you guys want to tag along for a bit......log already on it.
Haven't got time to spell check or really can't be arsed to take me as you find me.....
Hugs and stuff:ride::msn-wink::niceone:

What I was peed off at Ozzy for was that he did not bring out Lita Ford on to the stage and sing "If I close my eyes for ever". If I would ever have had a tendency to become a groupie, Lita would have been my choice.

Kiss played a good set, I enjoyed it. I am married to a serious Kiss fan, so I know all the words, and I have seen many performances on DVD/Video. They were fantastic! Loved my first Kiss live experience, BUT...
Alice Cooper surpassed anything I expected, infact he made me cry! Have been a fan of his since the early 70's and knew to expect a really OTT theatrical show, but after Eric Singers drum solo it raced ahead of what I was prepared for! Fantastic!

Now, that is a real shame. I think the concept was good... bring together a few big name "appeal to old bogan, and many younger bogans too" bands in one place at one time rock on! (cant believe I called my self a young bogan there actually) Should have been a sell out! Be a pity if the idea is scrapped, I was already planning a revised artist list for next year.

Meh, AC/DC were ruined last time I saw them, Brian has no voice left.
Faith no More, Skid Row and Thin Lizzy aren't bands any more, And I'd rather see Megadeth then Metallica again.
Though Id rather see one strong line up for a day event with a flat entrance fee then have it extended over 2 days with crap bands.

Did see JP years ago. That concert (and Scorpions) have to be the two on top of my "best concert ever" lists.
Yep, how bout a 6 band list like:
Day one:
Apocalyptica
Scorpions
Disturbed
Day 2:
SixxAM
Y&T
Judas Priest
Nice mix, something for everyone.
Well it's not as large scale as Rock to Wellington, but I'm still looking forward to it!!
Sigh.... Have a smallish boogie for me would you please, my feet are still sore :baby: from Easter....LOL
