I believe the guy has started to paint the FS black, i'm keen on the FE simply because of the price, he said the FE was bought as a MX/enduro and has had FS gear put on to make it a motard, still only done 35hrs.

I know i have the motard bug after riding a WR450 around Taupo Track and on a couple of rides North of Auckland on SH16, and i'm lead to believe that the FE650 is a few kilos lighter, and has a fair few extra ponies too. The only thing i didnt like about the WR was it ran out of go on the back straight of Taupo at about 160-170kmh which was expected.. everything else was awesome!

I have seen both of them, the FE would be my pick of the two also.

I say "Go BUY it" :woohoo:

Test rode today, only about 3mins and mostly straight line. Was amazed at how smooth the delivery was considering its a 650 single, but the torque sure was there! Going to check things out with the bank and then get back to the guy. Will be a little while before it goes on the road though!

Yeah, i'm pretty sure the FE has a "cush drive" which helps with the vibes, If ya need any help with gettin' her legal, just give us a shout.

How easy is making a bike road legal? Could it be done with a CR/KX500? Would be dead keen on one of them

Some are easier than others.....with all the right paper work....easy. with no paperwork (MX bike)..not so easy.........(my advice - sometimes you have to think outside the box)

My CRF was a sweet road reg'd motard

What paperwork do you need? What are the costs?

My dad tried getting a TF185 project bike of his back on the road. It had been made road legal in the past, but the LTNZ said it could never be put back onto the road for some reason. LTNZ are very cagey

That black one did look slightly better than the one im after which he hasn't relisted. The one i have my eye on is actually slightly race tuned compared to the black one. However I want to start with a clean slate for customising the bike so i'm going with the track setup one for the meantime, that way I can learn to ride it properly before unleashing it, and myself, onto the open roads.

But it's black!

Of course, that's what lured me into getting my VFR over the others... cough

I'm pretty keen to get a racer. Each year I think 'Ok, I've got to race at Wanganui next time'. A supermoto would be even better since they have a dirt section, which most of the riders take pretty slowly so I should be capable enough to do it myself, hopefully.

The VFR has broken down again and I'm pretty keen to tear the fucker to shreds. Reckon motocross tripple clamps with forks and a swingarm would fit with little modification? Would be awesome to keep the single sided swingarm and just replace the shock with an MX one but that'd probably look ridiculous.

Damn how come I've never seen this thread?:argh:

My friend Mr Stone got me hooked on supermoto. That was in about 2002. He owned a Husky NOX at the time. Only 300 of these bikes were made. His bike below.

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c52/FlangMasterJ/SmnoxrSmall.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

I've only owned one myself. A KTM250EXCR (with a 350 kit). It was great fun on the street and made people look twice. Problem was it attracted some fucken low lives who decided to steal it.

My bike

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c52/FlangMasterJ/KTM_351RFS-2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

Since then I have ridden a few motards. I am by no means a good rider I have just known people who are just as supermoto crazy as me and have been kind enough to lend me their machines.

The bikes I have had the pleasure of riding:

03 KTM 350 EXCR (SM trim)
04 and 06 Husaberg 650FSE
05 KTM 525 SMR (540 kit)
06 KTM 560 SMR
06 KTM 950 SM (big bertha)
07 Aprilia 550 SXV

I do like this one with the front rim-mounted brake on it.

I have a VFR400 swingarm (impulse buy) lying around. Might be possible to lengthen it.

I'm thinking now (though I have a habit of changing my mind a lot) that I'll do my best to try buy the NOX at my work. I'll hunt down an apprenticeship (including making a thread later), sell the VFR if nessersary, and knock down the price to something I can afford a loan for. If it sells before I get a chance, it just wasn't meant to be :p (been sitting around for a while though, surely it can wait another 2 months).

Test rode an XR650 today in the pouring rain (I was that keen to have a go). It was excellent. Going through town, blip the throttle, pop a wheelie, massive backfire noises as it decellerates, everyone on the footpath looks startled :p

I'd be keen to get one, but it's going to cost around $1000 to get my VFR road legal so I just can't afford it right now. Maybe I'll get a cheapie like that CR250 on trademe or the cheap husaberg at Motorad in the nearish future.

Air cooling being an issue around town going between red lights would probably rule out that bike anyway
It isnt.
I have had worse luck with water cooled stuck in traffic. Seems when water gets hot it takes longer to cool.
And it just keeps getting hotter till it blows. Air/Oil seems to limit.
