Just an idea- a newbie ride?

2 weeks since I got my "L"s and 4 days since I got my first bike. :yes: I see there are lots of organised rides for all the bikers who know what they are doing, but thought I'd float the idea for those of us still maxed out at 70 km/ph and still figuring it all out. No idea when or when but any other 'L' platers keen? (early on a sunday I suggest!!):banana:

PS. I'm on the North Shore in Auckland so i suppose it's really for those in a comfortable travelling ditsance (ie this side of the bridge!)

Theres a Mentor ride once a week in Aucks, you'll have to find out from some of the crew up there, and once your confident, let EJKDORRAI know, he likes planning <250 rides around the Corromandel, and trust me, you have an absolute ball around there!

Actually, we're thinking of doin a ride in a few weeks, but not sure yet.

thanks, but I was thinking more like 50-60k's, for fellow nana's who actually can't even DO the open road sped limit by law.......

I don't mind going for rides with newbies....i was one once....i ride a motard so 70k is about right:laugh::laugh::laugh:

Totally understandable. It takes me some time to get ready for a such long trip. This is also my first open road trip, hope it will be great fun :)

Take your time and let your riding confidence builds.

Regarding the 70kph limit thing:
I also have a 'L' plate on my bike. From my experience and lots of other bikers experiences, the cops will never stop you even you are traveling 100kph with your 'L' displayed as long as you haven't done anything wrong (like changing line without proper indicating, Thats how EJ end up with his $400 fine right before his 6R test, oh, the fine is for not displaying the L.)

Hey, if you really want to go for a ride WITHIN 70-80kph speed limit, Huia is the best place for you to start :yes:.

At the moment (4 days of bike riding) is definitely NOT good for the Well Known Coro Loop :no:

Try Huia first, via Coatesvill-Riverhead :yes:

yep i have noticed too lately there hasnt been any newbie friendly rides, all the usual suspects seems to have moved on

keep an eeye out for 250 rides though, its not a bit step up from newbie rides really

EJ's pretty spot on about Huia. It's pretty chilled for an open road ride. Riverhead and all that is nice too but you have to be comfortable keeping up to the speed limit to keep the traffic at bay.

I'd really suggest doing a couple of Wed night ride/carpark sessions first to get the handling skills a bit more honed then venture out to the open road.

I'm often up in the bays Gman so can show you a few fun bits of learner road once I get my new bike. Full licence in 9 sleeps!
