It's a while off yet being on my learners, but I have no idea what sort of bike I wish to own one day.
I have narrowed it down to a 600 sports (Daytona 650 is looknig very good for a sports) or a Bonneville..........Any suggestions, like pro's and con's for each?

Thanks

I think it comes down to what you want to do on a bike. Sports bikes like going fast on the straights and lots of windy's. But if you prefer just crusing a long, a more cruiser style bike is probably better.

Think half the people who have Ducatis are just buying into the image and are really Harley sport bike riders in disguise.
I've ridden things like old Darmah bevel drive GTS860, a Mike Hailwood Replica, a 750F1, Cagiva Allazura, new 750 sport when they came out 88? Paso's , a 916, Monster etc , they were OK but never got the urge to own one, always thought they were a bit underpowered, but apparently they are an acquired tast. Best bit was getting off and getting my own bike back. But if push came to shove and I had to buy Italian, think I would buy a Guzzi.
Ohh, a 600SS that does 240km/h? yeah right ...... I be suprised if it did 180.....

All good and well but may i make the plug for a 400. If you have the cash a new 600 would be the way to go but if not then a 400 has a bit of up and go. Handel pretty good and you can throw them around a bit without worrying if you will get into trouble. :spudbooge

I agree, 400's are an awesome size, with good handling and great power, they will still do 220kmh easy and when are you going to do higher speeds than that on the road......

As for Ducati's I reakon it is for the image and the sound.... One plus side is the 400SS i rode had beuatiful handling, just lacked in the balls department.......

considering I've wanted a Ducati since I first laid eyes on one, I'm happy..
This thing is the same size as the 400ss but has more balls... reckon it has more balls than my old cbr too... i know it handles better! (no bent fork)
More comfortable and heaps of torque... just what i like!
which is good coz I'm the one riding it!
I dont give 2 f*cks what people think about image and sound... if i cared about image i wouldnt have tatts to my wrists :niceone:

well i've known 3 accidents where it was mechanical
problems that caused the accidents not rider error on a Ducati.
Sorry I don't know the models but they are the 900cc ones- if I
say what I think they are, i'd only be guessing.

Duc 1 x single swing arm snaps

Duc 2 x bearings ceased - threw rider off

Duc 3 x Accelerator jams on full wind sending bike into oncoming traffic,
car hits rider

By the way, Duc 2 & Duc 3 happened within 3 weeks of each other
here in Auckland -

So lovely looking and sounding bikes - but I would be a bit gun shy
at owning one myself

[QUOTE=Blakamin]considering I've wanted a Ducati since I first laid eyes on one, I'm happy..

I'm with you all the way on this one. I can go for my full licence in December and then I'm off to get a Duc Monsta 620. Funny the number of people who tell me not to buy a Duc, then admit they've never ridden one. Well I have, and lets just say I won't be needing a man when I get mine...

How many people that *have* owned (or do own) one could admit, deep in the deepest darkest corner of their consciousness, that they never over-represent their happiness with their Beloved Character-Filled Ducati?

I, personally, am going to extensively test-ride and minutely inspect every Ducati I can get at when I receive the ol' full license, so that I may form a well-informed opinion thereon.

Until then, I shall merely troll on the subject and enjoy the reliable bites from Duck-humpers. :kick:

And *Quasi's* was the 750 SuperSlow! Oh, the shame of it. Three hundred and fifty extra cc's worth of pretty noise, soot and nice warm thighs (well, all that petrol must do *something* when it combusts - physics, innit?)

And all he could afford, after that, was a nasty funny-coloured Kawasaki. The poor man must hardly have the balls to raise his head in the presence of Real Bikers, these days.

Oh dear.

I just remembered.

Yours is the 600, isn't it.

Sorry dude, I'm immune. The 150's not even *meant* to be a Proper Bike; it doesn't really come into the discussion either way. It's more like a scooter, or a pushbike, or a monthly bus pass.

Anyway, don't you know that digs about my FXR are the KB equivalent of Godwin's Law? It means the thread's over, and someone else has lost the argument... :bleh:

Well, there was, of course, the somewhat unspoken question of whether or not Ducatis are overpriced crap.

And anyway, only a Nazi would cast aspersions on a bike smaller than his.

So what was this thread about again?

Ah that's right, the Triumph 600 and the Bonneville.

Having not ridden either can't comment on personal experience. Have read good things about the improvements Triumph have made in the past few years. I think you'll find the Triumph much like the Duc, it's a little more expensive than the Jap equivilent, the features and performance are quite as good, but it's got personality.

Would probably help also if you gave us some insight into it's intended usage. % of commuting, % of fanging it, % of lesurely open-roading, etc.

Back to the original question huh.
Of the two bikes you've named,I would take the Bonnie.
It would be the better all rounder.
An then the 650,It's supposed to handle better than it's Jap counterparts an with around 100 HP it's never gonn'a be lacking in the real world.
As for Dukes,I had an 83 SD900,last of the real ones :devil2:
It was a very good bike in a lot of ways, but it did require more than it's fair share of shop time.I have two mates that own later model Dukes, an they don't have any undue problems with em'.
They cane the guts out of them as well.
The way things stand with me at the mo' I hope to buy a Bonnie as my next road bike so I could be a little biased. :first:

Think you miss the point, you had a dream to own a Ducati, clearly it didnt seem to matter what Ducati you got, so long as it was a Ducati, good for you.
But if I had a dream to own a Yamaha, I wouldnt be boasting in every post about the mighty XJ550 I had just bought and how Yamahas were so great.
