The buggers have closed off Rogers Street to foot traffic so you can't walk the whole track again :(
Walk around 3/4 and then walk all the way back...
All they need to do is open up the inside of Rogers St (like it used to be) and it'd be sweet.
I'll be there :D

(like it used to be)
if they had any blooody clues they would change the f8#ken direction of the track back to WHAT IT USED TO BE so it was a slow speed corner onto teh start finish straight, and a higher speed corner at the end, also with run off instead `of the roundabout and shipping container greating you at the end of the straight with the current layout
it seems I am the only local who remembered the paso the picked up the shipping container and moved it two feet collecting a marshall on the way through several years ago when the track was run in the current direction
am considering racing there again on the 125, but bugger doin it on anything faster
they got really lucky last year in my opinion as there were very few braking duels at the end of the straight as the riders were quite spread out, and jarod love taking the majority of the glory
on the old layout, with closer racing, the run off provided frequent benifits
now thats a rant!

risking a divorce as it is, hers indoors is very stressed about the notion of racing the r6, which Im not keen on due to the before mentioned reasons, but its fun to wind her up
and if I dent the 125, theres not long to get the old gurl going again for the nats, in which I have already invested a considerable sum

I'm racing, but you need not fear a whoppin from me. I'm doing F2, F3, BEARS and buckets. The Monster is too slow to be a threat to anyone in F2 or F3- might do OK in BEARS. Definitely looking for a top 5 in Buckets.... there's only 5 racing!
As for the track layout...yeah well I've always thought its a bit odd to have the fastest part of the track leadig to a corner that is the equivalent of turning up someones driveway. When that corner is the first corner after the start it makes even less sense.

the layout is all to do with noise control and complaints from the people up the hill about the noise... so they had to change it to this direction so the sound heads out to sea instead.

I've heard a few negative comments now about the nelson races. I was thinking of dropping in this year on my way south but I don't think I'll bother.

Not me mate, and theres only 2 of the club members going.
You ask why, well look at the fucking disgraceful abortion of last year. As BMRC president I sent a letter to the nelson committee, but never heard back till I hauled Daren over at greymouth and had words. Now in his favour he did get on to it that week my email was finally answered... but reading through it there aint going to be any changes of benefit, and by that I mean safety.

I guess that'll mean a grand total of 4 bucket racers then, Diesel Pig will run his Post classic I suspect.
You're sure its not classics they are being run with, that would be the usual case?

9am till 4pm for one day, once a year. Fair enough, I mean the world really will come to an end if they have to put up with noise for 7 hours once a year...minus 1 hour for lunch... Think of the huge drop in property values!!

when i was involved there was one wanker up on the hill with a noise meter that complained his arse off every year
I think its a crock of shit that safety is comprimised to that level on the basis of noise, the major hurdle in organisation of the event was permission from businesses on the circut, not residents
but if thats the case, it really needs to be pushed much harder with the local authorities

Well that would officially qualify as a shit day:argh:
Car was loaded up. Trailer loaded up. After far too much pissing about for my liking, we got under way, with the entire family on board- even the cats who were getting dropped off at a cattery. It is important to note at this point that I live at the top of a slope. Off we went, stopping about where it gets flat to get some food from a bakery. As we rolled off again, the car seemed to be having undue difficulty getting rolling. Hmmmm. As we headed into town it became increasingly obvious that all was not well. We eventually stumbled to a halt at a garage. The car was running sweet as a nut in neutral, but as soon as it tried to actually shift some weight, the engine would make about as much power as a Nifty 50. We noticed that the fuel light was on, even though the guage showed just under 1/4 full. So we filled her up. Then when she restarted, it wouldn't idle and couldn't rev. Hmmm. After a couple of minutes of this, it stalled and hasn't gone since.
What to do? So I get on the phone to Dangerous and Rashika, who gave up their day to come and rescue us. MrsB and the kids got a taxi back home, got my little work car, came back, got the cats and dropped them at the cattery. I phoned around and found that as I suspected, the usual garages I use were out of action till about the 7th. Fortunately Armstrong Subaru's service dept are at work on Monday, so it was booked in there. Dangerous and Rashika turned up, and towed the trailer back home- even backed it up the driveway and into the garage. Then they came back, got me, ran me to Repco to get a tow rope, then towed the car around to Armstrongs, who have promised to look at it first thing Monday morning. Finally Dangerous and Rashika ran me home... where all we could offer them was a glass of water and a few biscuits...
So the upshot is- no idea if I will make it to the race meeting. It all depends on just what is wrong with the car. We still have a few days to get this sorted, so fingers crossed it will all work out. HUGE thanks to Dangerous and Rashika for coming to our rescue. We owe you big time for this one! Thank gawd it didn't happen in the middle of nowhere!!

Well, I would have to say that everything was really well organised this year. Racing started at 10:30- half an hour EARLY (:shit:), and they were pumping them through smoothly. Everything was going great. But unfortunately the weather and maybe the old red mist visor interviened. It was HOT- too hot for the tar seal, and the track started cutting up. There were some decent crashes in F1 and Motards in round three- from memory I think the Motards race was red flagged twice. It appeared that many riders weren't riding to the conditions (when they change reduce you speeeed:innocent:) For safety reasons and because of all the delays they cut the program short and went straight to the King of the Port.
I had a great day- even though I only got one full round in on the Monster (3 races + 1 on the bucket each round). I managed a 7th in the first F3 race which gave me grid 7 for the rest of the day. I was well outclassed in F2 and BEARS- wee Monster 750's have trouble dealing with big bikes..... I managed to beat people who normally leave me behind though, so things were looking good.
Unfortunately when I hopped on the bike for the start of the second round I realised I had no front brakes- the front disc had warped... actually 'dished' would be more accurate, and there was nothing I could do. So I continued on with just the Bucket for the rest of the day. I guess I took out the Bucket class for the day, with two convincing wins....buuuuut there were only two buckets:o Managed to beat a fair few Post Classics on it as well.
So yeah, that was my day...not often you go to a race meeting and it ends up being too hot!
A big thanks to the Batchelor clan for letting me move into their pit area, as mine was miles away from the PA system and I never would have known what was happening. Once I was moved in, they made sure I had shade and helped out with my hectic schedule of changing bikes. Bloody top people.
Big thanks also to Buddha#81 for the loan of the all conquering FXR150 #81!

pitty about the buckets class... but they were given a chance, hopfully next year. I have a feeling that the fact that only 2 showed up won't have done buckets any favours. Not having a dig at anyone, but it could well give them a reason to leave them out next year. The pits were absolutely chokka full- I can't see them needing any more entries. Not sure where the local buckets were?
EDIT: the Post Classics grid looked a bloody sad sight without you lot there!
Whats the deal wit the SV650's being kicked out of F3? Can't say I noticed that- I know I raced against some, but can't remember if it was in F2 or F3. The F3 field was pretty big, so I would've thought they were there...then again, I don't recall seeing any on the F3 grid.

Hate to disagree but...
• If you had almost been run down by a so-called safety car you'd be pretty concerned about it happening again, and that didn't sound like it had changed this year.
• If you spent lots of time and money getting bikes up there only to end up having one race on it (cos they combined races as you sat on the dummy grid with another class) for your $80 I think you'd be pissed off.
•If you'd not been able to hold onto your Title due to the above reason , you'd be rope-able
• If you seen other classes get 5 races when you had one, you'd be pissed off
• If you seen the lack of info supplied at the so-called riders briefing, even to the extent they didn't even tell riders how to enter back into the pits so riders were going to and fro down the same road, THAT is dangerous.
• Not to mention sending a letter of complaint abut the issues by the entire bucket club in January, with the nelson crew not bothereing to even reply until we baggered them in october at greymouth racing about it. And then getting a letter back that had a whole lot of incorrect info in it, they hadn't really addressed the issues we had complaints about.
There was a whole heap of reasons that went into most of the bucket guys not going: getting barely anything for your money was only one, a lot of safety concerns being another.
If I had gone up there after being told by them (and them taking my money) that there were 2 classes only to find out they combined both of my bikes into one class, i prob would have demanded my money back and left.
But anyway, as a spectator you dont get to see all the bullshit underneath , the crap going down over the wanganui races says it all really, all you see is the guys on the track.
As a racer you want to race, get reasonable value for money, and have fun, and yeah try to win if you are skilled enough. Having all the bull going down spoils it all, and aint worth getting annoyed over, so better to simply not go.
Yes Tony they may very well not have buckets anymore, altho why have classics either, theres bugger all of them. Wonder why the nelson crew didn't go tho? Mind you they haven't done any BEARS meets this year either.
Having said that I might very well have had a chance of getting a good place this year, seeing as you got first! :msn-wink:

Just remember that was last year- "It was a yeeeaaar ago Rashika, let it go":msn-wink:.
They fixed the safety car hassles this year. This year the Safety Car sat in the street where you gather after the race had finished. Once the track was delclared clear, it took off and did a lap. Once it had come past the dummy grid exit, they let the bikes out. The bikes then did a full lap, following a fair distance behind the Safety Car. The Safety Car didn't complete that lap, but pulled back into the street where you gather after the race had finished. Once we were parked up on the grid, the Safety car pulled back out of the street where you gather after the race had finished, and pulled in behind us. I'm picking that this must be different to what happened last year, because even if they DID let a rider out late, there was no way they could end up in front of the safety car as it hooned around.
So it would appear that they did listen to your concerns, they just didn't tell you they had. :pinch:
As for the Buckets thing, like I said elsewhere, as I understand it they were put under a lot of pressure to not combine them with Classics. Post Classics are the next slowest class (though at this meet the two fast ones were not too different to F3), so it made sense to put them in there. If they were to do it again, if I were you I'd just leave the Bucket at home and run Elsie in F3. The others could run in F2 and shouldn't get lapped. I'm picking that the organisers of the Greymouth Street Races will also be put under some pressure not to let the buckets race with the Classics this year. It will be interesting to see.

I'm picking that the organisers of the Greymouth Street Races will also be put under some pressure not to let the buckets race with the Classics this year. It will be interesting to see.
I assure you, we are under no pressure, if those classic boys dont come up with some more numbers they will be the ones getting the short end of the stick.
The grey street race was originally started as a classic event and its essential that those boys remain a part of the event. its an age old argument that we have all heard a thousand times regarding mixing classic and buckets, but its just simple ecconomics when it comes to the efficant flow of the event. With a max grid of 35 bikes allowed by MNZ, it makes sence to mix 8 classics with 10 buckets. The best thing for us would be 20 buckets and 20 classics in their own class, but numbers in both seem to be falling.
Mind you? why you would put buckets in post classic is a mystery to me??
TonyB

dont tell me you dont get it either
No I don't get it because I wasn't there last year, so I try not to comment on it. YOU weren't there this year, so maybe you should take my word for it- it was very well run. Yes the Safety Car was way too fast, but Steve74 has given a possible reason for this based on his experience. But they had sorted the other issues- it was not possible to be run down by it. Aside from the weirdness with the SV650's, (which obviously wasn't an isolated event), and the tar melting which is completely beyond their control, (it was melting in the shade under DP's shade-thingy), everything went very very well.
To be honest I think they shot themselves in the foot with the Post Classics/Buckets combo, as they had a small field of Classics, a pathetic feild of Post Classics, and only 2 buckets. If they had left things the way they were they might have ended up with 20 odd buckets and heaps of Post Classics. Hopefully they'll re-think it.....mind you, there was no room in the pits as it was...which brings me to a possible area for improvement...
....Have the pits roped off and available for COMPETITORS/ORGANISERS VEHICLES ONLY. Supply each entry with a sticker to put on their vehicle, and don't allow anyone in there that doesn't have a sticker. Again this year, a fair few random cars and bikes turned up and parked in the pits, alongside the dummy grid etc. Keep the buggers out!!

:yes:He was going to run his Bucket in F3, but the chain shat itself. He got second in Post Classis- I thought he had it in the bag, but there was a guy I hadn't seen before on a Guzzi who took it out. I can't find my race program, so I'll call him 'Mr Guzzi'.
DP and Mr Guzzi were battling for the lead in Race 1, with Mr Guzzi taking it out.
In Race 2 DP got baulked at the first corner, an XT500 or something snuck around him and held him up for half a lap, which allowed Mr Guzzi to get away.
Race 3 was cancelled.
They didn't allow Post Classics into the King of the Port, despite DP and Mr Guzzi running at the same pace as the leading F3 riders.

No I don't get it because I wasn't there last year, so I try not to comment on it. YOU weren't there this year, so maybe you should take my word for it
Ummm... I do man, I have not comented on this years race once? whats with you and myGSXF, get over it I have.

... But they had sorted the other issues- it was not possible to be run down by it. Aside from the weirdness with the SV650's, (which obviously wasn't an isolated event), and the tar melting which is completely beyond their control, (it was melting in the shade under DP's shade-thingy), everything went very very well.
yeah hope they have sorted some stuff out, cos it would be a shame to lose the racing
To be honest I think they shot themselves in the foot with the Post Classics/Buckets combo, as they had a small field of Classics, a pathetic feild of Post Classics, and only 2 buckets.
does that surprise ya? most of the bucket guys race both, so no buckets, no post classic
I hear what ya sayin chick.. & sure, as a spectator I might not understand all the intricate details. But as stated by several others who were there this year, the event sounds very different from last year! & unfortunately you guys missed out. :bye:
...and as I have said already in the other thread, for myself personally, there was a totally different reason for me NOT going than not wanting to. Even after all the shit I was still kinda wanting to go, cos I luv street racing! ;)
It states in the race programme that depending on numbers, classes may be put with other classes. Who wants to see ONLY 3-4 bikes racing??? As I remember from last year, both you guys came tearing into the pits on one bike, & quickly jumped on another bike & went straight back out in another race class anyway!!!!! So what ya whinging bout.. not getting races...???
So for our 2 bikes each, in two different classes we got a grand total of 3 races? (thats the total, not 3 in each class because they combined the last race as we were sitting on the grid waiting for it to start). We bring more than one bike so we DO get more time on the track.
When others had one bike and had 5 races for the one bike in one class? Does that sound fair to you?
We spent fk all time on the track, yet we bring an extra bike so we can.

Ummm... I do man, I have not comented on this years race once? whats with you and myGSXF, get over it I have.:laugh:Mate all the way through this thread and the other one you have insinuated that safety was still a problem this year, despite not actually being there and seen it for yourself. Everyone on this thread is talking about what happened this year, you and Rashika keep dragging up what happened last year. It looks like you definitely haven't gotten over it. You know I think the world of both of you, but you really need to accept that things were different this year, let it go, and let people discuss what happened this year.
MrsB has been reading the paper- found a couple of articles- they are attached. I didn't realise just how much carnage there was at the end of the day. Definitely a good call to can the meeting!

Hi Fran, I was running 151 in F1 Bears and King of the Port, got anything? Cheers mate, hope you had a good day.
Just for reference, by the time the actual King of the Port was run the track had come back to a pretty decent condition compared to just 30/40 minutes earlier. There must have been a slight change in temperature or something. I was right behind Daniel when he highsided his R1 and the area it happened on was glistening with tar bleed. By the time we had King of the Port that had had significantly reduced.
2 Years ago at Paeroa by the end of the day in near 40 degree temps there was a 2 metre by 4 metre patch of seal completely missing from the race line onto the back straight with all the gravel chip spread all around the hole. Each lap we were riding and powering through bare dirt, stones and holes while still partially cranked over!
Still the best meeting I've raced at in New Zealand yet :third:- and our Post Classic 2nd race got bumped for a Motard race....... Its a long and expensive way from Nelson for one race eh?
Sometimes life is just like that sometimes folks <_<

Hi, Mr Guzzi is a Bernard Ryan from Wellington I think. He has been a regular racer at Greymouth, Nelson and S of Thund for quite a few years I believe. He gets that old thing paddling along waaay faster than he has any right to - madder than mad Jack Mc Madd
He was going to run his Bucket in F3, but the chain shat itself.

No, it doesn't sounds fair m'dear.. I take it you are talking bout the motards there??? :wait:
Crikey, they had to be split into 2 groups yesterday.. as there were sooo many of them!!! :shit: they are fun to watch though!! :Punk: I guess the face of racing as we have known it, is a changing with the introduction of them there hybrids however.. the good ole days are being pushed outta the way by technology!
Hey.. btw.. if ya come with 2 bikes again next time... can I borrow one???? :innocent: aaaww.. go on.. go on... pleeeeeease!!! :doobey: I'll bake ya scooones with jam & cream.. :spudbooge but no b & e pies!! :p

I think some people need to harden up!
Rather than have two bikes and moan that they are unable to race both, if you really want to get value for money and as many races as possibles why not buy a European Motard as a lot of other riders obviously have?
I've raced F3 at Ruapuna and missed races and had races cancelled, I remember getting one 5 lap race one day, due to shit weather, crashes etc. It happens from time to time. Get over it and stop bleating.....
Also any Clerk of the Course has the right to change races and classes to suit.
Regarding the SV650 situation, when the riders entered, wouldn't they have stated the class and bike they were planning on racing? If this was not acceptable to the organisers, why was there entry obviously accepted?

Holidaying in sunny Nelson getting sick and tired of listening to the young neices saying "I'm bored...I'm getting sand between my toes...I'm all beached out..." I was thrilled to hear about the street races! Cruised along and thoroughly enjoyed the day. I tried looking for other KBers but it's kinda difficult to pick them out unless they're wearing a KB tshirt...
I saw NordieBoy across the track but he disappeared before managing to cross the track...I really need to get myself a KB shirt, then others can spot me...!!!
Enjoy the holidays people...:sunny:
Also saw lots of signs for the motocross but doesn't say where...too late anyway, back home now for a rest... Does anyone else find it hard work holidaying??

The buggers have closed off Rogers Street to foot traffic so you can't walk the whole track again :(
Walk around 3/4 and then walk all the way back...
All they need to do is open up the inside of Rogers St (like it used to be) and it'd be sweet.
I talked to a couple of the organisers today. I don't want to quote what they said on here as I don't want to miss-quote them, but it turns out there are very good and well considered reasons for closing off Rogers Street, and for running the track clockwise. The reasons are many, and fairly complex, (hence I don't want to risk getting it all backwards on here), and I can see why they do what they do, and I now fully agree with it.

FWIW... Buddha (whom didnt race this year either) and I have talked about getting another letter to the Nelson committee from the BMRC, it involves getting a big crew at next years meet. this includes F4/F5 and post classics.
our Idea is to promote the event, but the nelson crew will have to help us at the same time, no leaving it to the last month again when riders have already made family plans for their xmas break.
See tony/mygsxf... we do care :msn-wink:
