With such a fine weekend looming on the horizon, the decision was made to give Kanny and the wee Volty, (hence forth known as "Bumble") a run around the back of Kawhia, taking in the sites, some quality riding practice, and a couple of nights at a comfortable Bach.
Traveling out of Hamilton via Pirongia, Bumble required some air in the front tyre to stop some vagueness in its steering, so first coffee was consumed.
Te Pahu rd was chosen to reach Pirongia, as the heavy traffic flow on hwy39 would have been quite intimidating for both.
A quick ride of 10km on 39 allowed us to get onto hwy31, and out to Kawhia.
The hilly terrain and tight corners were a challenge, but with a couple of stops along the way, both made it there safely.

A spot of fishing was planned off the wharf on Sat evening, but since the tide was against an evening fish, alcoholic beverages were quickly located, and consumed steadily while enjoying the scenery, and a bit of a read.
Sunset was enjoyed, and then a deep slumber brought on by the wine etc.

Sunday was the real challenge for Bumble, as it involved alot of tight twisty roads, (with little traffic fortunately), and some steep down hill off camber corners. the speed was kept down, and the main theme for the day was positioning/entry/and control through corners.
Every twenty odd kms, we stopped for a sip of water, and a quick discussion to work through concerns.
The path led Bumble out around the top of Kawhia harbour, and out to Taharoa for a break, and a picnic, (well some chocolate and a stretch).

The ride back retraced our path, and I was noticing that Bumble looked more comfortable through the corners, the lines into and out of said corners looked good, and the general travelling speed was increasing.:Punk:
So that mean't a few more drinks in celebration was required back at the Bach, and the late afternoon sun was enjoyed, while listening to the various bikes coming and going from Kawhia township.:msn-wink:
Another comfortable night was had. An early ish departure from the Bach Mon morning with quick rubbish drop at the Oparau service station. (Bill the owner is a great guy, and shares his local knowledge with those that ask).
The run home to Hamilton showed a more confident, and quicker travelling Volty and rider, and the grins over the weekend said alot.
Well done Kanny and Bumble.:sunny:

Thank you so much for the photos, I absolutely adore Kawhia, my parents used to have a bach there when we were growing up and it is a fond childhood memory, I would go there almost every second weekend and throughout christmas/new years, seeing photos like that is very nostalgic.

It sounds like you had a great ride and a great stay! I haven't been there for almost a decade, it's definitely in my top 3 "where to go first" when my bike gets back from the shop.

A great write up!

Your dead right there. Its great to be helping karen progress through the learning stages.
And to think she didn't even know how to start a m/cycle at Easter Time.
Methinks this summer will be full of adventures.
Bach stays, Waiheke wine tastings. Coro weekends etc etc.
The Scrambler is the perfect bike to mentor on. Upright riding position, tourquey twin that putts along at any speed, and can carry a shit load of gear.
Hmmmm, Kannys next bike, a Bonneville maybe?

Hooray for Kanny and Bumble! What a great team!

I think my Volty will have to get a little more adventurous in her wanderings if she's going to keep up with Bumble and friends.
