VT750 honda

OK a mate has 97 VT750 honda. And its not starting every time ,He has recently replaced the ignition module, We took it to the honda shop they say the starter motor is kaput 900$ for a new one, WTF! there has to be another way.
Can he get it rewound or buy new bushes or throw a chevy one on there or something
Any advice would be much appreciated

Heck that sounds like they were not willing to service it, if you are sure it is the starter motor try a reputable auto electrician, they should be able to recon the starter motor.

Before that though check out the starter solenoid and associated wiring.
