After a big lay off in racing over the last 12 months, i was looking forward to getting back out on the bike.
Since last season its only had an oil change and filter and been parked in the garage in that time, week before the meet, pushed it out onto the street, ran it down the hill, and being a good ZXR 400 fired up straight away.
Sat 17th loaded it on the trailer, picked up a mate 1st time racing on his 2005 R1 packed the van and off to Taupo, with the weather looking promising for the weekend.
Sun 18th. Arrived at the track and caught up with everyone, a lot of new faces as well, signed in ,scrutinered, and riders brief we were ready for a good day.
Unfortunatly at riders brief a lot of riders in the mixed classes namely F1 and Post classics, didnt understand or didnt listen properly how the starts were to proceed, ie haveing a Street Stock on the front row of the Classic class, where as he should have started 2 metres behind the Classics.
RACE 1. 10 laps. Grid positions were based on results of the last PMCC season, which put me on the front row with the Two strokers of Andy and Peter, who i have battled with over the last two seasons, both very qwik bikes, this ment i had to get the starts right when i am up against these to. I got a very good start getting Peter into the first turn, knowing i had him behind it was a matter keeping the lines as tight as possible. Mid race still holding 2nd place i was passed by a VFR 400 i think Scatcha and another ZXR , this pissed me off big time, but these guys were pushing pretty hard for first race of the day and at times looked a little shakey, it wasn't long before they both disappeared into the rappu ! bye bye, so back in second place crossing the finish line. Wahoo ! good start for the series.
RACE 2. 8 laps, cut back because of the stuff up on the start, we had to do a re-run of the 1st race, latter in the day, which ment ive just lost my 20 points stuff me.
Again got a good start but Peter got me this time on turn 1, bugger, keeped the heat on him looking for his weak points, found it on turn 1, mid race went for some good drive coming on to start/finish straight found it slip steamed him down the straight and left my braking late, tucked it inside him and held a tight line in there, choice, holding 2nd place again, for half a lap then bloody Tom pokes his nose in and takes it away from me, but low and behold a lap later he slows a little, and i glimpse down and hanging from under his bike is his gear shifter, luck is with me again finishing in 2nd.
RE-RUN of race 1. 6 laps. Again got a good start, and i'am usually a shit starter, had to try to be consistant here and retain point 2nd if possible. Again held Peter of, but the VFR 400 was back in there carving up the track, that bike has some poke, so had to hang in there for a 3rd place.
It was certainly hot out there, but all in all i had a bloody good day, even my mate's from Gisborne Ross in F1 two 2nd place finishes, and our new man in Club Mans Freddy one 3rd and one 2nd placeings.
See your's all at the next round.
