Soon my nice green licence will be arriving in the mail.

It's a nice warm sunny day in Rotorua, and the testing guy insisted that I get fully suited up with his little earpiece thing before we had our pre test chat and checked the bike over. So I was getting nice and hot and sweaty, before we had even gone anywhere.

About 3 intersections into the test, the earpiece had moved and I couldn't hear what I was supposed to be doing. So I pulled over to give it an adjust. Testing guy was a little concerned that if I kept stopping to adjust it, we would run out of time, but it was ok after that. We went around in circles (literally, at times) in an extremely quiet part of suburban Rotorua.

Then the guy pulled over, and said I was to go on ahead and do a u turn when he said. So I continued, and continued until I can barely see him, then was asked to pull over and do the turn.

I struggle with u-turns. I was practising last night, with mixed success, so this was the bit I was nervous about. It wasn't exactly silky smooth, but I kept my feet up.

Back onto a larger road, we pulled up by a dairy and had a 2 minute chat about the kinds of hazards one might expect to see in that area. He said I was riding very well.

Then we headed out to the main road to Tokoroa. This got the air conditioning going in my jacket, so I wasn't quite so slimy and sweaty. I rode for 6km, did another u-turn (his driving-tester sixth sense obviously picked up on my dislike of u-turns) and we headed back to the testing station.

He commented that my bike got along pretty well (I was very careful to stick to the speed limits though), and said that there wasn't really anything more he needed to say about my riding.

So my nice new green licence will be in the mail soon :wari::wari::wari:

Oddly, I don't have any immediate plans to use my new licence, since I've recently bought a 250 which no longer has pillion pegs, and I'm usually safely tucked up in bed between 10pm and 5am. But it will be nice to be back to having an adult licence :2thumbsup

Nice one! :niceone: Good to hear that you are on the podium of full time and qualified to ride bikers!

I keep slipping off my podium 'cause I just want to keep riding! :msn-wink: Sounds like you did okay with the U-turns 'cause he didn't mention anything about them?

W00t! I guess time to start looking at the bigger bikes and drooling huh? :woohoo:

No, the Sherpa and I are in it for the long haul
And anyway, my little legs don't fit on adult sized adventure bikes :pinch:

I know that feeling well but when you're ready you'll find one you can lower.

(PS I'm selling my extra lowered DR650 through Just Motor cycles if you wanna look & see how low it is compared to norm)

Clint's friend is about my height, and he had a new seat made for his DR650 with shallower foam in the front. That makes a surprising difference to the bikes height - I can get my toes down sitting on it, but I'm keen to get more gravel and off road practise with the wee sherpa before I try to haul around a heavier bike like the DR.

And someone has decided that instead of upgrading the sherpa I should buy something like a Ducati Monster to keep it company

aha! It was a trick question anyway! Of course you will be keeping your precious for the long haul! :oi-grr:

I dunno, people are far too quick to give the 250 the flick!
Makes one feel kinda sick, when it was to learn your tricks!

:niceone: On ya!

You must be taller than me, if you only need the seat mod. But yeah it is good to get practise in on a smaller bike, especially on the gnarly stuff.

Don't see a problem with that- a gal has to have more than one toy to play with:devil2:

congrats on the licence

Im going for mine soon and i really don't know what to expect :S I've been practicing uturns and stuff, but whats this about hazards? Do they just randomly pull you over and ask about some hazards you saw while you were riding? Or is it more, pull over, "we are going to try spot some hazards at this next intersection, remember as many as you can," #pootle pootle#, "okay what were they?"

The LTNZ site was pretty vague and im getting nervous bout the test...

It's the latter. If you have the headset they'll tell you to watch for hazards when you come up to an intersection then ask you to pull over and tell them the hazards after it.
