Oi! I was picking up pizzas around 7ish ... zeocen dropped around and we tinkered on Daphne a bit, got her fairings off, and bunged in the race spec 250 lc donk to see how it would fit!

Looked luvverly it did ... And zeocen actually did well on the ol'spannering! He wasn't as gormless as last time and didn't ask me "what end do I hold this?" once!

oh yeah, Ixion will be dropping off a genuine flywheeler tooler thingabobmegum later today!

FFS a motionpro puller is probably about $20 & it's not like you won't use one again. Has anyone got a 12mm spanner I can borrow?

Use oil on the threads & grease on the end that pushes the crank, don't ask why.

Well, some modicum of success has been found ... substituted a bracing bracket using the pin and a torque wrench got the nut off...

Huzzah! Donor pootled over to see if we could get to the next stage, noticed woodruff key was missing already from the setup!

We tried BFI (blunt force instruments) to try and get the fuggin' thing off, but no dice :weep:

Have some ideas to put into play ... damn, feel so close, but still so far

but it seems the handy tool that Ixion dropped off canna be used since it cannot be bolted on!

Pic 1 : The flywheel tool needed to do the job...
Pic 2 : The flywheel
Pic 3 : The bracket with joining pin in one of the flywheel holes
Pic 4 : The bracket resting on the ground, torque wrench with long socket
Pic 5 : The nut finally got the nut off!
Pix 6 : Ixion's ol'faithful box of bits ... but not able to be used :slap:

Garrgh. I asked you if it was the type with the big internal thread or the type with the three threaded holes, and you said the three threaded holes.

In fact it's the type with the big internal thread. Probably 27mm x 1 mm

Get a 27mm bolt and drill a hole in the end of it. Or use a standard three leg gear puller with the end ground down to fit in the little holes (I may have one somewhere already ground) . Though I have known that trick to tear a flywheel in half.

Or get the proper tool, they're pretty cheap and quite commonish. Mostly. Unless the RZ is a funny size. In which case they're not.

You won't get it off with blunt force.

(To get the nut off is trivial - either use a rattle gun or put a bolt in each of two of the adjacent holes and a tyre lever between the bolts and turn until the tyre lever hits the ground. Then a socket on the nut with a big breaker bar, and hit the end of the bar smartish with the BLOODY BIG HAMMER. )

Was the puller I used to use on my DT175 sooome years ago!! 26mm thread, so not quite what you want :(
Opps 27mm would be the interferance fit, 26mm to the bottom of the threads.
If you think it looks useful I could call past sometime. Sadly I'd want to be onsite with it as I have used it since and if anyone was going to damage it .. that person would be me :)

Thats okay, I think Donor is gonna purloin a useful thingagummy from his brother's caryard mechanic area!

Howzit fixing a cage is easier relatively compared to a 'cycle!?

Not very clear, but there is the o/d diameter if its of any interest. Best of luck and hope you can move the flywheel without damaging anything. Need to wind up the puller and give the end of the bolt/whatever you have made up a hit with a hammer to crack the joint. But am sure your mechanic mate will be able to sort compared to my non-professional advise :)

Sorry I abreiviated before. I said For Fuck Sake just buy the Fuckn tool.
Any butchering to try & get things off consider this: The crank it is attached to is the most critical part of the engine to remain true & the most expensive to fix.

As pictured it (or the more sturdy motion pro version) is the std Jap flywheel puller & will fit 90% of jap 2 stroke flywheels on anything 1970s onward + is as cheap as a tank or so of fuel. If you need to hold the flywheel a plumbers chain wrench (vice grips with a length of chain) can be bought from Supercheap, (unsurprisingly) cheaply. This will retain the flywheel without damaging it.

Other methods involving poking things through the holes often will cost you the coils underneath, I've seen it done, sadly to my RZ by someone who should have known better & I should have known not to trust him.

Argh, stop it you two, it's like lending out a 12mm socket, its not like he won't need it again.

EGAD!

There is a two smoker in my drive, obstructing my gargre!

EEP!

There is a rabid gent of questionable and quite possibly asian descent in my kitchen, grinning like a complete (and qualified) maniac!

Whatever shall I do?

GADZOOKS!

I seem to be missing a home baked blueberry muffin and several pints of Raro!

Oh dear god, I think he may be moving in!

...who woulda thunk it?

One borrowed tool, 5 minutes and it's all done!

Thank heavens for borrowed tools!

Who is this crazy asian peeping through my window when I have no pants on ..:o the nerve.

I thought I heard a bike pull up, but no one around here but me has one! So I just assumed it was a fast idling car, but nope, in arises a ninja biker to steal my Dr Pepper !

Righto, rode over to chez Richard McF and picked up his handy-dandy flywheel removing tool. Had a damn good yak about his most excellent Ducati and the intricacies of restoring its charms back to torment modern sprotsbike riders on the Coro

Plenty of sound advice he gave me about these here two-stroker smokers!

But enough, when I got back home - sleeves rolled up and into the guts we go again!

This time, Daisy yielded her charms to the right tool (borrowed, along with a 12mm socket) And quick as you can please, it was off in five minutes. The coil was shagged and fortunately, I had a spare (I'm restoring two other RZs also at the moment! :woohoo:)

Whipped it on, tested it for spark ... and wouldn't ya know it, the lovely little tic tic and blue flash of ignition.

Ignition demons = detonation fairies working = some important bits moving!

:headbang:

Gave Donor a call and he heard Daisy belching fumes and making a racket!:bleh:

By this stage, I started to put all the bits n'bobs back onto Daisy and test rode her. Hmm handling is right off. :shit: And how come I can't change past 1st gear!? Oh, poop, put the gear lever on the wrong angle  Scooted back into the pit shop and did a final readjustment. Had to fill tyres with air again (7psi on front, 11psi on rear :o mys bad), bunged in some petrol (15.3 litres worth, $25 sheer robbery!)

Rode to Donors and Zeocen and taunted them both mercilessly. Ah, good times! Then took Daisy out onto the moronway and did a loop from Takas to the City and back home again. Blardy windy. Blardy awesome to be back on the two-stroking charms of Daisy.

It's been too long girl. Don't scare me like that again! Now, we gotta see to your sisters!

PS - Richard being the scholar and gentleman he is, has allowed me to purloin the use of his flywheel stator extraction tool for an indefinite period. He reckons I'm the first to use it in 15 years! I guess I owe him a ride on Daisy/Dandi/Daphne whenever he feels like it!

Pic 1 : The tool is on.
Pic 2 : The deed is done. Just like that.
Pic 3 : A picture of the wires, just to remind me what goes where.
Pic 4 : The wire coiling through a hole and up to where pic 3 is.
Pic 5 : One shagged STATOR, yeah baby yeah!
Pic 6 : The two STATORs side by side, spot the difference!

Well, I can't believe Daisy has been off the road for as long as she has (a month and a half? longer?) three days or so of half-arsed work and shes riding better than ever!

Thanks to Ixion and Richard McF for their assistance and expertise, Tri Boy for the offer of his tool. Thats the spirit of biking I enjoy, helping others constructively and lending a hand. As soon as the carport is cleared, I'll be putting the Spanner nights back on again! Learning about these two-strokers is fun and I can't wait to get the other two RZs back on the road and racing them on the track! :woohoo:

I can only spot one flywheel & it is in the first picture.

Only person I'd trust to rewind the stator is

Righto, off to the STATOR winding repair man it shall go! Been giving Daisy a rough slapping over these last couple of days ... in the rain and out at night, up and down roads and twisty bits, revving her hard out and slapping her hard ...

She seems to like it and keeps begging for more! :2thumbsup Right.. time to start on Daphne and Dandi...
