Just bought a '96 Kawasaki VN1500 (Vulcan) cruiser. Really enjoyed the test ride - I think it's a cool bike. Would like some feedback from other owners.

Good solid reliable cruiser... if not quite as quick as a modded 800 :)
Come and join us at VROC (http://tinyurl.com/rel8f) to learn what the bike's capable of. 25,000+ members around the world, so a massive knowledge base being shared there. A reasonably active down under branch as well.
The Delphi Kawasaki Vulcan forum (http://tinyurl.com/kp3cn) is another good one, which may require (free) registration...
And last but not least Gadget's site (http://tinyurl.com/bb7c9). This guy has done every conceivable modification to his Nomad, and kept detailed instructions for the rest of us.
They're a great family of cruisers the Vulcans. I've never heard of anyone who regretted buying one.

Good on you! There's one (still) for sale on TradeMe, with all the add-ons including towbar. Looks really nice. I looked at it before I bought a Suzuki Intruder 1500. Hope you like it and get plenty of happy Kms ...

There is a family of big Vulcan bikes. They are:
Vulcan Classic (VN1500 now VN1600)
Vulcan Nomad (VN1600)
Vulcan Mean Streak (VN1500 now VN1600)
Vulcan Drifter (800/1500/1600?)
Also the 900 cc newest member of the clan is getting good reviews. The VN900.
All are great bikes.
I have the Mean Streak and that is one good lookin and great riding machine. No regrets on buying it at all.

I was following one on the Wairoa rd yesterday, it sure was easy for it to scrape the underside and give off good sparks when he was leaning it over.:niceone:
I brought a 96 version back in 98 when the missus decided we should do cruising.
Lasted about 4 months..........hey, I'm a sports bike/naked bike dude, but it sure went well, and I kinda liked it it for a while...........but dont tell anyone I said that!

Yes Rockbuddy, you are quite correct. My apologies to VN800 owners. I guess if it wasn't for the VN800 there would not be the great things that VN900 owners enjoy today. And the VN800 have earnt their good rep too. Yours in your profile looks very tidy too I might add.

I don't think these ever came into NZ, much the same as the 800 Drifter.

And then there's the VN400? http://tinyurl.com/2dx3t6
I saw one on TM not too long ago... A v-twin and virtually identical to the VN800B (classic) but with a much smaller stroke... or bore... or something? I think they even had an "A" model (skinny front tyre) in some parts of the world.
