Anyone had any experience with getting parts anodized in New Zealand? I was thinking of maybe brake calipers etc. What sort of quality job did you get?

Cheers.

Anodising is considered a bit of a black art. Most are working in the dark ages & control or scientific understanding is limited, at least this is what one supplier told me when they were sick of patchy inconsistent results, so set up their own plant. They do nice work. Sadly they only do internal stuff so you can’t use them off the street.

One of the big concerns is the type of ally to be anodised. They really need to know the type of metal to be confident it will take well. Cast is right out (with some HiTech exceptions).

How much does it cost in most cases?

In Chch there's a crowd called Christchurch electro plating in Kingsley street that used to do it,my mate had some stuff done for his kart and it was pretty good and he's a fussy bugger, but the colour choice is limited

Like F5Dave says, they need to know the make up of the alloy - it ain't just aluminium. Also, cast is out as a rule, so getting a good result anywhere is not likely.

IMO you would be better to get the parts HPC coated - nice finish, very durable and can be done on damned-near any metal.

Something to do with having to clean corrosion out of the pores of the alloy first before "powder-coating". The whole job on 2 rims I priced out at $200 (blasted and coated", so it is going to have to wait. Still need to get the collector box done properly yet (mind you my patch job is still holding out).

Sounds good.
Anyone know how powder coating stands up to the rigours of tyre changing? (Here's one for the books: something I don't know, or profess to... )
