:msn-wink::ride:I,m only writting this because it's my fortieth post and I need forty posts to fence off my section:rolleyes:no I don't get it either and I wrote it.
Tell me about FJ1200s,did you have em down here?.I owned 5 over the years,possibly my favourite bike of all time.They were just soo good but nobody expected em to be.It ended its production run with a bit of a staid image but i'll give you this on behalf of all the fjs I've loved and remember this is a 1984 on bike.:clap:125 bhp,155 mph,ate countries for breakfast,best sports/touring fairing ever,commfy,ultra reliable,80 foot pound o torque and so very understated.like a cool bloke in a suit in a bank queue,some fool tries to rob the bank,cool guy steps outa line twats robber and returns his place in the queue.stupid analogy but it had such good manners you often forgot you were sat on a missile.I guess the bike that sounded the death bell for the old fj was the zzr 1100,top bike on paper but on real roads no match for the yam.It didn't do corners and the breath of a cross wind totaly screwed it.:2guns:don't argue I owened both together.

Why is a cool bloke in a suite in a bank queue? Wouldn't it be heavy to move every time the queue progressed?;)

Just teaching the English how to speak good England (I'm assuming using words like Twatted & Toffee).

Never rode the FJ12, thought about buying one, always seemed like a good tourer, but when I was looking a few years back they were holding their price very well.

I had one for about 4 years, it was my baby too. But once I got onto the R1 there was no looking back. The Fj was old school retro, with plenty of grunt but when I got offered a ridiculously high trade-in (2k more than I brought it for) she had to go. Fond memories of her.:rolleyes:

Really enjoyed delivering one from Palmy for Napier (the old man had bought it). Was quite a step up from the GSX750F I had at the time. Went really well and the handling surprised me at the time - didn't expect big bikes to handle so well. The Concours is now reminding me of this too.

I rode and FJ1200 for weekend once, I loved it. I seriously considered buying it, or at least a tidier example. Going over the 'takas i kept hitting things on the ground when I wasn't expecting too. I was hanging off like mad and giggling like school girl. Such a solid feeling engine too. It didn't need 5 gears, it could have got away with just a couple.

A man after my own heart !!! own an 89 FJ1200, Its everything I would ever need in a bike....Love it wouldnt dream of selling it ...there are a few posted around Trade me round the $5000.00 price

Fat Jack for EVA !!!:headbang::clap:good for you clearly a man who knows a proper bike when he rides one.You know if you updated it a little and disguised it under a new shell ,put in the showrooms as a pkz yamazuki 1300,I reckon it would sell big style.It's easily the match for vfrs,bandits and the like.a 23 year old bike and it would still mix it with a lot of todays stuff. Respect FJ,will we ever see the like again?:clap:

ooh ooh,another thing,I aint clever enuf to put a link on here but on u tube theres an FJ quad racer,have a look,like its donor bike it kicks ass ,theres also an fj powered stunt car doin the rounds in pom land,spiggin awsome engine.

agree with everything said on the FJ, I have had mine 5 years and think it is the best bike I have ever owned as a an all round bike and a great touring working horse (Icarry all the Luggage).
As to updating, I have just started updating mine (93 FJ1200ABS), fitted a 17inch 5.5 rear rim, fitted with 180/55 radials, a vast improvement on the 16inch rear rim with the old 80 series bus tyres, didn't take much machining to fit either, but had to remove the ABS, so if anyone ABS gear for theirs let me know.

yes they do complete with ticking top end,stonking motor,I had one of them too but it wasn't the intercontinental missile the fj was.One of the biggest bike clubs in england is the fj owners club' somat like 3000 members. A couple of hundred of them jobbies rollin through town was somat to behold.:eek:A well set up and well ridden fj would even stun the sporty riders of today.ah well,I don't really have a point but if you aint got much money and you can find a goodun go for it.

Yep, my old man had both the FJ & the XJR. I preferred the FJ for it's mile eating ability.

Nothing at all,I just compared specs when it came out and it wuda cost me about 7 grand to upgrade,er $20000,to a bike which didn't,on paper at least,seem to gain much over the old fella, but it would defo be on my short list for the future.:drool:

I share the respect for the FJ1200 - I had a mint Jap Import one in dark dark blue (looked almost black) - called it Flo Jo, MAN it could go (having upgraded from a 750) I always had to remind myself when passing a line of cars to button off a car earlier than I wanted to pull in so I wouldn't overshoot the gap!

Best value for money grunt I reckon. Have seen a version of midget sized race cars (in USA?) on TV using the FJ motor.

:cool:True true,It opened up a world of different riding to me.You know when you can see a car approaching a junction with your road and ya think,tits he's gonna arrive at the same time as me which tactic should I use to survive cause he's gonna wanna kill me by accident or design.another option the FJ offered that I'd never had before was,twist the throttle a tiny itsy bitsy bit and the junction and the car that was and still is, approaching it are now a lil ol picture in your mirror.The roll on acceleration was warp drive dude.:2thumbsup

I will probably only say goodbye to it when I can afford an FJR, and that will be after buying a house, so in other words I will be spending a lot more time on FJ :)

agree with everything said on the FJ, I have had mine 5 years and think it is the best bike I have ever owned as a an all round bike and a great touring working horse (Icarry all the Luggage).

I put 70000 kms on my FJ and loved every minute. Did heaps to it. When I sold it it still looked like new. The only things that bothered me were the lack of ground clearance when pushed hard and the fuel consumption. It was a classic example of a bike that was better than the sum of it's parts. It just worked.

Not sure about the comments on the ZZR. I have never had stability issues on mine. I rate the zed as the better handling of the 2. I do know that at road speeds when the ZZR did its party trick of stomping straight line acceleration just about the only thing that could keep pace was the FJ and that enormous midrange. From memory both had the same 1/4 mile times. Beyond 440m the zed would pull away and leave the FJ behind.

:niceone: Mmm,ok, I think the zzr was a great bike, a turning point for sports tourers as the FJ had been before it. A lot of FJ owners club guys switched to the zed but still came ridding with the group and whilst the FJ jockeys were awe struck at first when the zeds took off towards the horizon,It soon became apparent that they were easily sucked back into the group when the twisties came our way.So when I said they didn't do corners I meant comparatively.

My enduring memory of the zed tho was its alarming inability to track in a straight line when faced with a cross wind or turbulence especially when following a truck. A common complaint amongst zed owners at the time maybe they sorted it on later models. Hey ,both great bikes and I don't regret a single minute sat aboard either of them.:first:
