I haven't got a trust fund, and my chances of winning lotto seem to be the same as everyone else, so I do an office gig in order to pay for my bikes (and mortgage, insurance, and not much else since the money seems to run out about there). Doing the 9-5 sucks pretty bad, and I spend most of my days daydreaming in my happy place (that place in your mind where you go when you don't have the freedom to get on the bike and ride when the sun's shining)...

But every now and then, a moment happens that makes your day better.

Thursday night, client xmas party, edging for the door hoping that some small miracle would relieve the tedium - and it did. One of my clients bought her chick friend (cute as a button, smart and funny too), and in order to get the conversation away from the inevitable work stuff - I blurted an introduction for one of my colleagues - "this is Greg, he's a biker". This is the miracle - Ms Cute as a Button says "I passed my test and I ride too!". Bloody excellent.

She reckons she had a mid life crisis, she's had her Suzuki 150 for a few weeks, and she likes to ride (her bike, before one of you makes the obvious joke).

Whatever the reason, it's frigging great to see newbies find a love of riding, another car LESS on the road, motorcycling becoming a little more mainstream, and just a little proof that miracles do happen.

:lol: have something similar .. work do & one of the partners of the teamie did not wanna come until she said well you can talk bikes all nite with my team leader .. he came & we did talk bikes all nite ... & every work do since then

he even lent me his 250 to sit my restricted & passed his a week after I passed mine :wari:

Itis great how bikes can become a common topic of interest that is not artificial small talk. So...are you and Ms cute as a button......or does your mortgage come with a relationship already?!

Lol the other day i met some old guy that was uttily convinced that anybody why went over 90 was going to be killed on a motorbike. I could not be bothered debating it.

As my rule of thumb,since getting my bike,whenever I see a person with a bike I say hi,saw a group at a local cafe last week,went up after parking the bike,introduced myself and had a chat with a couple of guys,they were leaving and our food was about to be served,another couple said to me sit here,we did and talked about general shit before they left.

A simple thing of a bike breaks the ice so to speak,even with a complete stranger you have at least something in common.

Of course it is still wrong (well depending on the situation, I mean contrary to the advertising campaigns, speed is only one factor, but that is a different rant...)

I went to a BBQ last night with a group of people I didn't know, they were talking about the price of petrol, when one of the guys said he's heard of people getting 60 miles to the gallon, from small cars and Hybrids. I said I get that from my bike. Me and one of the other guys spent the next couple of hours talking bikes....

In the last three weeks i've started at least four conversations about bikes purely to people standing in queues, wearing their gear, and I hope that my new found love will introduce me to some new friends once I move to Auckland, where I don't know anybody.

yeah ... can get invited to rides that way. Nice way to meet people, even if they DON'T ride bikes. It's amazing how many people used to ride bikes when they were young,. but gave them away as they married and had kids. I know a lot of people over 60, and most used to ride a bike . One 90-year-old was telling me the other day about his Indian. Another had a Matchless, several had Ariels and so on. Great way of making friends.

It's nice when you meet someone into bikes aye.

Always looking for kindred souls, I killed a conversation on Friday. A client and I were talking about mechanics in modern vehicles and I mentioned that my motorbike is pretty basic, ie no computer bits. He looked a bit interested so I went on to say I have a Kwaka 750.

He replied "my son was killed on one of those"

Oh dear. :shutup:

- that wasn't your fault Matt, - and if the Guy had any social skills he wouldn't have blurted it out. It's almost like saying "My son was killed on the ROAD, so the ROAD is bloody dangerous"

As I was walking the bike home after the fuel cut out, when I took a break from exhaustion and dropped the bike, a cute chick ran over to see if I needed help. She was the chick on the scooter that I went past often. I didn't catch her name sadly, I'll see her around though
