Which exotic car would be a match for your bike?

I was talking to a friend of mine who is in Wellington at the moment and he went for a ride in a Ferrari 512TR - I googled the specs...

The 512TR could accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.8 seconds and could reach the quarter mile mark in 12.8 seconds. Top speed was 192 mph (309 km/h). It cost US$212,160 in 1992 with luxury items, the "gas-guzzler" taxes, and destination freight.

Well, my bike would still outrun it! The ZX11 can easily do under 10 seconds in the 1/4 mile.

So it got me thinking, what exotic car would be a match for your bike?

Imagine the scenario... late at night, your waiting at traffic lights to let you onto an empty motorway... and a car pulls up next to you... what car would have you worried!

Regardless of cost - but we are talking "stock production" cars and your bike too!

its quite hard to work out actually
A 1200 bandit does a quater mile in aprox 11.15 sec
But based on the fact that its a high torque lower horsepower and not a huge top speed id be maybe saying a ford rs 200
there about 2.8 sec 0 - 100km and a bandit is aprox 3.2 sec actually a bit less i believe so im going for that

I reckon mine is the Ferrari 208 GTS.
It does a 16 second quarter so its substantially slower however.

Theyre both Italian
They both have an approximate top speed of 200ks
They both look like they should be fast to people who know nothing about them
They both sound good (Id imagine anyway having never heard the Ferrari)

i have never met somebody keen to race at the lights. i hope i dont either as im scared of meeting a car thats faster.

I've got a matching pair in my garage.

1998 Ducati 600ss
2003 Ford Falcon

They're both the same shade of red and both are designed for the real world with the onus on torque and handling rather than horsepower and top speed.

Ducati will whip the Ford's arse in a quarter mile straight and the Ford will whip the Ducati's arse for straightline speed.

Specs are probably crap on paper but both vehicles make me smile therefore they do their jobs well.

At the sprints I clocked around 13.5 seconds, and according to the internets the VFR is meant to be able to go 0-100 in 4 seconds. I'd beat the Ferrari to 100 but then it'll get past me before the quarter mile, but 100 is as far as you go on publics roads...

Ford RS200 would be no match, that'd fly past (not that I've seen any around).

2005 Lotus Elise:

A dragstrip launch and shifting at its 8500-rpm redline awakens the Mr. Hyde inside. Alternate cam phasing kicks in at around 6400 rpm and is more evident in the Elise than in Toyotas with the same engine. Having just 10.4 pounds to move with each horsepower enables the Elise to accelerate from 0 to 60 in 5.1 seconds on the way to a 13.5-second 102.9-mph quarter mile. It's no dragster, but still effectively identical to a $59,000 258-horsepower Porsche Boxster S (0 to 60, 5.4 seconds; 1/4 mile, 13.7 at 102.4). The Elise stops from 60 mph in 114 feet to the Boxster's 110. Where the Elise-versus-Boxster S--or just about anything else--battle is won is in the Lotus's ultimate handling prowess.

2002 Ferrari Enzo:

10.8 second 1/4 mile at 135mph :(

Further active aerodynamics help the Enzo maintain stability at all speeds. An adjustable rear spoiler and adjustable front flap allow for either high load or high speed aerodynamic setup. Above 186 mph (300kph) the Enzo reduces its down force from 1709 lbs (775kg) to 1290 lbs (585kg) allowing for a top speed of 217 mph (350 kph) .

Well I would be VERY worried if a Ferrari Enzo pulled up next to me!

There are at least 3 RS200 in NZ one is in Auckland and owed by a guy who does rallies in it. A friend had a Atom and that thing was just plan fast but not to comfortable to get high speeds because it was so Twisty but through corners marked between 25 and 70 the thing was just amazing. I nearly spun it when I was hard on it.

Well after doing 1500km in the weekend only one car past me It was an old 1980's Holden Calise 5000cc thing. We were on some back roads he was hitting the corners very hot like only a local would know. I was quite happy letting him go past. So my match was a Holden

Oddly enough, I had someone in what looked like an oldish white 5L Holden sedan have a go on the Napier-Taupo road on the weekend, in the last uphill passing lane in the sweepers through the set of hills before you head down toward Eskdale.

I rather suspect that it was a little 'breathed upon', because I found it necessary to apply moderate throttle in fourth gear and a certain amount of lean through the corners before I had him shrinking in my mirrors. Are cars supposed to be able to do twice the speed limit up hills?

'renegade master' i think your pairing of a mc222(cbr250) and a toyota levin is a bit of a missmatch mate, the levin wouldnt stand a chance.
For instance my rgv150 easily disspatches my best mates 92' 20valve,silver top levin (150hp,1050kg),unless wea talking rolling starts from 120kmh-130kmh that is then its pretty even, with the levin pulling away around 150kmh.

Im guessing since you said 160hp levin that your meaning 20valve black top-(ae111) , even though thea a bit quicker than the silver tops your cbr wouldnt have much trouble beating one.

mc22 cbr250, 0-100kmh 5-6secs,1/4 mile-14sec

toyota levin ae111, 0-100kmh-8.5sec,1/4 mile 16sec

The best figure I've seen for a stock ZX11 is 10.4 for the ss 1/4 mile. That was independently tested using professional drag racers. The only sub 10s ZX 11s (1052cc) I know of are heavily modded. Just for starters you are looking at things like changing the gearing, blueprinting the motor, modding the fuelling/airbox and serious dyno time. Plus shedding all the unnecessary weight. And running slicks on modified rims.

The ZX needs more power and less weight to crack 10 secs. Then again so do most other bikes.

Alot of people are underestimating their bikes here.
E.g, 'Grub',i see u have two cbr600's,and your saying a subaru wrx would match your bike, what planet are you on mate.

90'CBR600
1/4 mile-12.06sec@114mph
top speed-141mph(227kmh)

00'CBR600
1/4 mile-11sec@120mph+
Top speed-easy 150mph+(low 240's kmh)

Subaru WRX STI
1/4 mile-13-14sec@?????
top speed-140-155mph(225-250kmh)

There arent many cars which will saty with even a half decent bike, ive seen a mclaren F1 do a 1/4 mile on youtube(11.0sec@????)-Basically,slower than a 1990 GSXR750L(10.87sec@127mph).
Even the likes of ford GT's,Ferrari Enzo's,Porsche 911's,Lambo's cant keep up with a decent bike, they all struggle to break 11.0sec on a good day(heck, most 1/4 miles ive seen for those sorta cars are usually in the low 12sec bracket),even the mighty buggati veyron falls short(10.4sec 1/4 mile), so does the aeriel atom(12sec non-SC,and 10.6sec for the 300hp supercharged version).
If where talking straight line,4 wheels still doesnt come close.

Here's a table of quarter mile times for cars (http://www.ssmoparmuscle.com/speedcomp.htm?NORDERBY=quarter&OORDERBY=make&OORDERDIR=DESC). now Google quarter mile times for your bike and then compare them, then post what you got.

My CX apparently does 14 secs when new, that's the same as....

1993 Ferrari 348 14.00
1996 Ford Mustang Cobra 14.00
1994 Mazda RX-7 14.00
1993 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 14.00

1986 Ferrari GTO 14.10
1999 Ford Mustang GT 14.10
