Any one who missed it , put it on your callender of MUST dos!!!! Awsome weekend from friday to sunday with heaps to do!!! Beach racing, track racing, speedway, street racing. Well run rally, with great bands in the evening all under 3 massive marquies (well it is southland and lets face it chances of getting rained on are pretty high:lol:), cheap booze:apint: and awsome food from currys to bacon butties. The BEST time had by all!! Lots of people from overseas, this one will get huge!!!!!! Even the weather was good! Yup i kid you not!
$50 cover for all that racing and the camp site over 3 days is a pretty good deal.
Well done the organisers awsome event all round, best rally i've been to!

Glad to hear you enjoyed it Bob, I agree it was a great weekend. I was just speaking to one of the organisers at Venture Southland and couldn't think of anything to suggest to make next year better. The whole setup is so good right now that it would be hard to improve.

I'm also impressed that so many bikers made the effort to come from all over New Zealand. Invercargill is a fair way to go and as a local we appreciate the enthusiastic hordes who turned up.

The Burt Munro Rally could have been a one-hit wonder but instead it looks like a solid event for years into the future.

The only thing that pees me off is that they set it up (in competition) on an established rally weekend. :spanking:

The not too distant Magpie Madness Rally was already occupying that place on the calender.

The Magpie had a record turnout last weekend, so between them that is a lot of bikes in the South for the weekend!

Nice that the Burt went well though, just the same. John.

It's the biggest event in Southland, economically.
The rallys would be best working around it.

One of the best, if not the best rally I have been to.
Arrived with sunhuntin about midday on Friday, was joined by son, (Moxey) and daughter in law about 10.30pm.
Beach racing was very good, but marred by the rain.
On Saturday, son, d-in-l and I toured the 'western block', heading first to the Clifden suspension bridge, the longest in NZ. From there to Tuatapere for lunch, then home via Riverton. Social time was enjoyable in the huge marquee, which stood up to the onslaught of the wind. (Even though some of the dunnies blew over!)
Sunday started with the toy run to Wyndham, followed by the excellent street racing programme.
Managed to meet a few KBrs that I hadn't met before...timg, One armed bandit, Gazbur, Plug, Mc Jim & Chickadee, and possibly one or two others. (The old memory isn't what it used to be).
Definitely going to be an annual event for me!

Nice to meet ya out at Windy Wyndham, boy was it freakin windy that day or what! Couldn't hear the RG or the Ducati on the way back to Invervegas for the windy screaming past the helmet.

Hope a few more KBers make to next years rally, shish there were loads of bikes/bikers - awesome to see so many gathered with a passion for 2 wheels.

See you next year!

Interesting. I would have enjoyed meeting you all but I'm not sure how that comes about. I did meet TimG because he was wearing a Kiwibiker vest.

Perhaps next year we can have a thread with a plan to meet up somewhere on site.

I had my T-shirt on, but also had Kiwibiker on my jacket. Lots of peeps there so probably hard to spot us.

I think we'll have to say if we're attending next time so PM's and contact details can be exchanged beforehand!

See ya next time.

NOTE FOR THE NORTH ISLAND DWELLERS: from the wee brochure about the Rally I have here for those coming from the North Island, it's so cheap to get the ferry over, they were doing a deal for the Burt Munro rally for bikes $35 for the bike and $38 for the passenger (each way). Hope more make the big hop south next time!
