Police have charged a 35-year-old unemployed Caucasian man with the murder of deaf Christchurch woman Emma Agnew.

Police made the announcement just after 4pm, after earlier taking the shaven headed man into custody following his arrest at the 150 room Wigram Lodge apartment complex at 12.25pm.

Those white savages are at it again.

Whats his employment status got to do with anything? They obviously want the locals to know who it was.

And what has Emma Agnew's deafness got to do with anything either? Why can't she just be a "Christchurch woman"?

Nah mate, they're not savages. The good kiwi majority think those white boys are always innocent. i.e Watson, Bain, Ellis, Lundy et al.

Just so long as they have the person responsible, for a young girls death, who gives a F**K if he/she works or not, if he/she is white/black/yellow or brown, a young life was taken, and for what??
this thread will die quick, because it wasn't a brown person.

Guys and Gals i know emotions will be running high at the moment but i urge you to have some perspective they have only arrested him. Lets wait until he's been found innocent or guilty before we start flying off the handle about race. it doesn't matter what race ppl are all over the world ppl are killing each other.

Lets not get over the top on this a girl has lost her life she needs to reat in peace, keep in mind there will be ppl on this site that may be friends or family of Emma Agnew and this bickering wont be helping

Take care All

I agree... it shouldn't matter... he's the possible killer of an innocent young woman... it's not on...

Oh but it does, why else would they publish the race of the accused.

It's just another word for the media to pad out their headline with. Really tho, is your first thought, when they apprehend someone like this, "wonder what race they are?"
I usually am disgusted first and grateful second that the cops have made an arrest.

Give it time, reporters are trolling his family geneology to find if he has any Maori blood relatives to blame it on.

READ THIS BEFORE YOU QUOTE ME:

Emma was in my class in 2004 and she was a really nice person, I never really spoke to her that much, but it was evident that she was sort of the planet which everyone revolved around. My mates were good friends with her, she was actually comming to uNoples 21st on the day that she went missing - it was a pretty hard hit for him, he doesn't talk about it though. I've just got back from a get together where we all sorta sat around drinking, it was pretty sad tbh because everyone was thinking it but no one was saying anything.

-->Emma was a great person and nothing that happens now can bring back what was taken. I'm too shocked and saddened to care about devising cruel punishments or to pose speculations.

I personally think that people should keep their opinions to themselves while everyone recovers from the shock. Because a LOT of people knew her and were fond of her and I think that if you had some common decency you'd let it slide for a few days.

Surely, people like me should just avoid these posts because we're overly sensitive right? You'll understand when/if it to happens to you.

you're ok
most of us would leap into the fray with harsher words than yours if it was someone we knew and respected that was the subject of a thread like this

in all honesty though, the thread started because of the race component of the news story ........... it just got out of hand a bit from there on

am sure no-one intended to be as disrespectful as it seems

I'm our resident redneck and I'll be the first to admit that plenty of white people are scum who commit horrible acts. I think people (including myself) often just leap to the assumption that the perp is not white, because brown people are disproportionally represented in NZ's violent crime statistics.. It's not to say that whites or asians cant commit the same horrible acts, but the reality is it's more likely to be a brown person.

FWIW, the vast majority of serial killers are white..

It's relevant because eventually his name will come out, and generally the age, race, location, and employment status help differentiate the offender from others that share his name. e.g. John Smith, 25, caucasian, a builder, was charged with child molestation, gives a lot more comfort to other John Smiths I expect...

How will it give more comfort to other John Smiths?

Do they read the name in the paper and wonder "Is that me??"
Surely it only comforts other John Smiths who wake up in a Police cell and think "Christ, thank F**k it's not me... I'm a plumber!!"

Obviously another John Smith, reading about the apprehension of a John Smith, is not going to think it's him. However, publishing the guy's race, age and occupation will help alleviate the awkward questions from friends and family about whether or not it was their John Smith who was arrested.

Not very hard.

Romeo, you'll be pleased to know that there were so many people at the court this morning that they had to close the court off from the public, too many people wanting to give this guy a hard time, and making a hell of a lot of noise doing it. He's been remanded, and has entered no plea. He won't forget his ride in the paddy wagon out of the courts up the ramp though, there was a fair few banging on the outside of the van

No you are quite correct... "Not very Hard"...

What if you were (by no fault of your own), the son or daughter of the bloke who has just been fully identified? That's a bit harsh.

Then you're not accused of murder or under any suspicion what so ever...

But I must say I hope he hasn't got any kids. It wouldn't be a lot of fun being them right now.

And as someone said - let the courts do the judging!

Griff

Obviously..

The worse thing is that this happened in the 1st place.

Hopefully it IS him and he is off the streets.

But I think that by fully disclosing all his details is just adds to the anguish.

I think you'll find that I wasn't targeting the original topic, rather the hijackers who were posting derogatory comments about someone I considered a friend. In my fit of rage I probably didn't articulate that fully in my original post - criticism noted.

HOWEVER, the personal attack was totally uncalled for man.

PS: Police have done an amazing job throughout and it's now up to the courts to decide.
