Stem-mounted radar mounts. Tried these?

Thats good to hear as I like the look of those ones. Kinda simplier than ram solutions with all their different attachments....but then, horses for courses. Ram look like the go if you want a laptop on the bars!

Hi, bought a Valentine, a H.A.R.D system, and a stem mount for it from Radar Direct. Works well! Also bought a RAM mount for a camera that has a suction cup on it and mounts to the tank. It works well too! Don't know if that helps.....

i think the ram solutions, all be they clever. clunky and expensive.

Na mate i take it off and use it in my Van (tragic but i need it for work). The velcro pads work great but i also use a big rubber band around the unit and mount plate to provide peace of mind (rather than pieces of radar detector). Can vouch for its ability to stay vibration free as it works as a camera mount as well.

I use the Techmount and it works fine. The only disadvantage I can think of is that it may be model specific in which case you'd have to get another one when you get another bike. Apparently I have a touching degree of faith in velcro I use nothing else.

The detector doesn't stay on the bike. It can be fitted to most cars in seconds.
I don't leave it on the bike while it's parked either.

Don't let your detector get wet!

I use a Givi mount. It is 'designed' to be used as a cell phone holder but works perfectly for me as a radar detector mount. I was looking into mounts earlier this year and was disheartened by the price of them.... until I came across this. It was $40!!! (actually it may have been a bit cheaper, can't remember exactly) less then half the price of all the others out there. I thought it would be some cheep piece of crap when I saw the price but its not. It is really well made, it has never come loose in the 5 months or so that I've had it, and it holds my radar detector (Escort 8500) without vibrating and bouncing all over the place.

I bought the weather proof cover from Radar Direct when I bought my radar detector. Well worth having to keep the weather away from the detector if you get court in the rain. I have a small bolt holding the clear cover onto the mount. I then have a couple of velcro strips holding the detector to the cover. I have also bought the directwire cable to power it from the battery and made up an extension cord for the earphone plug. If you check out the pictures you'll see the cord runs from the detector, under the tank then ends where the seat and tank meet. I installed some speakers from some head phones into my helmet, run the cable through my jacket and plug the headphones in at the seat. This setup works great for me and was relatively cheep. All the cables, clear weather protector, plugs and mount cost less then any of the other mounts I could find.

Hmmmm, lots of different opnions its good to see. Yours looks good, how about the noise in yr helmet when it goes off? Who uses a screamer or HARD system, and the pro's and con's. (geezz I'm getting paranoid and I'm only on 20 dermits)

The speakers in my helmet are plenty loud enough to here the beeping of the detector over the wind noise at 100km/hr + and with foam ear plugs that I use. I bought the ear phones from dick smiths. They had a plastic head band to go over the top of your head for when you use them normally. In side this band was a wire that went between the two speakers. I carefully removed the wire then chopped off the plastic head band leaving the two speakers that you see in the pictures below (I also filed the top of the speakers where I cut off the head band to make it nice and smooth). I have an HJC CS-12 helmet that has a pokcket in each side by my ears where I was able to insert the speakers. I ran the wires around the base of the helmet between parts of the lining. They then exit out the back of the helmet. I run the cable down the inside of my jacket where I can then plug them in at the front of the seat.

I chose these speakers becase they were quite slim, so I would be able to fit them in my helmet, and they had a High dB rating so I would be able to here the beeps over the wind noise when I'm traveling at highway speeds, oh and they were pretty cheep so I wasn't too worried if they didn't work or if I stuffed it all up. I only need to have my detector on about 3/4 volume to be able to hear the sound clearly.

In another thread, a KBer has a similar system but uses it with our custom made earplugs. The plugs cut out the windnoise yet he is still able to hear the fuzz buster go off. Win/win scenario, going by his post. Cheers Sue 027 659 1583

Just get longer tank fuel cap screws.

looks a lot better and stable than those stem things at god know how much this was about 70 on the trade me and i recken it should cost about 15 dollars

Could always try making the base longer pushing it forwards a bit more
I dont tuck in on to the tank when i have speed on the bike and shield just seem to work and i dont really notice the wind pushing on to me to much
Never really thought about it till now

There will be a plastic fitting that will clamp to the center of the handle bar if you changed the design a bit but stick to the basic z type shape itll work out

i've got a radar direct stem mount to hold my escort passport x50, and i use the H.A.R.D system as well saved my ass so many times on the r6

I also use the Givi mount. Cost $39.95 & screwed it onto one of the nuts on the windscreen , works a treat & easily the most cost effective & easy to fit solution that is also transferable from bike to bike.

In some States of USA and I think Canada, a Detector fitted to the vehicle make Insurance null & void.

Ins Co.s would jump at that opportunity here also! :mad: :mad:
