Hi All,

I've just seen an excellent article in the latest AMCN about the Cliffhanger Hillclimb at Gladstone (East of Carterton & just South of Masterton) on Saturday 15 & Sunday 16 March 2008.

The article by Mick Matheson challenges Aussie racers to come to NZ and take part in this exciting event.

Because of the nature and terrain of this event it will have very good spectator viewing and provide two days of racing which in some respects will be very similar to the great Isle of Man TT races.

It's a "run what ya brung" event and the fastest bike up a measured course wins the prize. There appears to be several categories of racing, obviously for different engine size/specs so most bikes will be able to race.

I'm gunna do my best to get there from Melbourne. Probably stay at the Carterton Holiday Park - motorcycle friendly the last time I stayed there.

Kind regards
Dave Milligan

Well, folks, I'm all booked in and going to the Hillclimb on the weekend of 15 & 16 March.

On top of that I'm shipping over 4 Aussie bikes which will be used by Aussie competotors in this fabulous event.

Oh, well, who gives a Fat Rats if I'm there, but having some Aussie competitors will be good.

Kind regards & Happy New Year

Awesome stuff. This is a great event and it's going to be cool having a bit of trans-Tasman competition.

Well it seems I'm gonna have to do a bit more work on the team owners to allow me to compete.

There's nothing WBP Racing enjoys more than thrashing Aussies :devil2:

Forget bringin' booze into NZ, we've just gotta make sure the buggers don't score the champers while they are here!

I've got some bad news for you people too.....the weather is guaranteed to be crap that weekend.
How do I know?
I've just checked my roster and I'm actually going to be home for this one (praise the lord it's a Christmas miracle!) so the chances of me actually being able to attend a race meeting and have good weather are slim and none...and in the words of Clint Eastwood "and Slim just left town..."

That's great news and us locals will make you welcome ..so long as you ride slower than us OK.
What bikes are you bringing so we can recognise you..or will the corks hanging from your helmets give you away (just kidding)

Feel free to bring the Melbourne womans beach volleyball team with you as supporters.
Happy New year to you to Dave Milligan

Awww, c'mon mate, I've only just got my sight back after being blinded by the reflection off your blindingly white arse! The vines are normally quite pretty throughout the 'rapa but that's one bunch of grapes I hope to never see again.......

....besides I've already committed myself to improving on last year, now that Frankensteins Bride is running OK (touch wood/head) I'm aiming for second last...I think I can, I know I can, I think I can, I know I can....

Hi Guys,

If I bring any Duty Free it will be for me...and it will be Rum - fark orf!

Secondly, I'm not an Aussie. I'm a Kiwi (formerly of Chch) and I've been living in Melbourne for 11 years.

I co-own and run a business called Get Routed. The prime function of Get Routed is shipping Aussie owned bikes to NZ so they can tour NZ over the Summer months at a much cheaper rate than using a hire bike.
We ship out of Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne and all shipments go into and out of Christchurch.

Wanna know more about what we do, go to www.getrouted.com.au - it's home made.

I first heard of the Cliffhanger Hillclimb in AMCN in November 2007 when Editor Mick Matheson ran a great story about the 2007 event. I was so impressed with the story I rang Mick and offered free shipping to NZ for any competing bike whose owner wanted to compete in the 2008 Cliffhanger event.

I have always been a big fan of hillclimbs and wanted to run one myself 20 years ago. I will be there as a spectator, but am too old, fat & slow to compete. That and the lack of talent has kept me from racing for 60 years....but I still like to ride and will be bringing a bike up from Chch for the event. Hoping to arrive on the Friday arvo.

So far I have 4 confirmed bikes and there's still time for more bookings.

My goal is to gain publicity for my business - we are planning a shipment of Kiwi bikes to Australia in September, 2008. The shipment will arrive in Brisbane on Monday 15 September, 2008 and be loaded in Melbourne for the return shipment on Tuesday 14 October, 2008.

The idea being that the Kiwi contingent (as individuals or in small groups) can tour the East Coast of Aussie for 4 weeks on their own bikes and take in the Aussie MotoGP at Phillip Island on 3 - 5 October.

If this all works out successfully I will put some serious dollars into sponsoring the 2009 Cliffhanger Hillclimb and hopefully then we will get a big contingent of Aussie competitors wanting to come over - free shipping will still be offered in 2009, but only to bikes which are competing in the event.

Hey, lissssen guys. It doesn't matter who wins (Aussie or Kiwi) as long as it's a successful event it WILL BE GOOD FOR MOTORCYCLING.

Now go and tell all your non-internet mates about it and see if we can attract the biggest crowd ever to the 2008 Cliffhanger Hillclimb.

Kind regards
Dave Milligan
