Hi, I joined the forums a little while ago after going for a pillion ride with Jrandom on a gsxr1000 and getting hooked on the idea of riding a bike. Just got my learners today and now i'm staring to save for a bike so i will be asing lots of stupid questions. After having sat the test i have found a tendancy for the questions to be ambiguous or based on opinion not fact. For example:
43. If the driver of a vehicle immediately ahead of you could not see you in either the rear view mirrors or by turning their head, you would be considered to be:
A) Following too close
B) In the driver's blind spot
C) Driving carelessly
The book answer is B, however the book also indicates that blind spots are to the sides of the vehicle. If the vehicle is "immediately ahead of you" surely you are behind it, and therefore following too close, not off to the side in the blind spot, no?
Has anybody else found badly worded or ambiguous questions? I had a quick look and found half a dozen.

Welcome to KB - remember to try to search the question before you ask it though - most people ask the same 300 questions when they start riding.
But the dumbest question is the one that never gets asked!

Tim-Tim-Tim-Tim-TIMMMAYYYY!

Yes, it's generally accepted that the licencing process is effectively arbitrary and pointless, both the theoretical and the practical sides. Whether you pass your restricted and full riding tests seems to depend on which examiner you get and whether he woke up on the right side of the bed that morning, f'rinstance.
Since you've already got your 6L, though, you can go back to your default state of not giving a fuck.
;)
And make sure you buy a Zeal.

Welcome to the site. Hornet 250 are a great bike too for starters. And there is no such thing as a dumb question, ask away we love to feel important with giving advice.
Ive been riding for 21 years now on and off, started on a Norton 850 Commando but back in the day you also started off with a full licence :pinch:
Roads are much busier and pace of life faster now. Loads of good peps to help you out. Make sure you have good riding gear, and just keep lots of distance between yourself and others, enjoy the world of motorcycling, I still cant get enough of it

and therefore following too close, not off to the side in the blind spot, no?
The further you get, from behind a vehicle to alongside the vehicle (all the time in the blind spot), this gets known as the "death zone"...

Probably when i get a bike and go out for group rides. I was thinking i could get a cheap bike first to learn on and then get something more serious later which would get me out on the road sooner. Anybody know of any seriously cheap bikes around? or how to make a quick buck?

Welcome to the world of biking Timmay. You have many years of fun ahead of you. Enjoy .
Congratulations - ahead of time - re achieving your first bike. You have made up your mind AND started your money-for-your-bike savings so nothing will stop you now.
Be sure to buy your gear at the same time and take every opportunity to learn to stay safe out there.
Again - welcome.

Hi all, well I have decided to choose a lighter smaller slower cheaper bike right out and spend my cash on good gear. The bike I have chosen is an SR250 http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=130411588
I want to hear from owners of these bikes, or previous owners, are there any problem areas? I have fixed lots of small engines, bikes, mowers, outboards so i'm pretty sure of what this needs. I have already taken a look and it all looks straight.
Thanks
