If there was ONE place in New Zealand (North Island) in which you could say it was dirt bike central (The most tracks practise + racing + permitted beach riding) where would this place be?
Many thanks in advance. :niceone:

Jeez! - how much riding do you want??
If you lived just north of Auckland you could have woodhill and Riverhead within 10 minutes.
In the waikato you are not too far from Kimmys and Maramarua forest. and tons of charity trailrides!
The coromandel peninsula has forestry access Old pioneer trails and gold mine areas and paper roads Galore.
You can live in the eastern bay of plenty and have Maddix park , Burts Farm, Ywarri Dirt Park and loads more charity rides on your doostep! Youve got beaches everywhere but not many suitable for riding on.
That is about the limit of my riding area knowlege but Im sure that other folks will tell you of way more!

Bay of plenty is a very good central location for riding, heaps of awesome places to ride with nice loamy soil, plenty of beaches to ride as well that are away from the main centres.

Yeah but if you want to earn resonable money you'd want to be in Auckland.

Waikato area is great as it's pretty central to the good rides. Everything is within about an hour and a half but as someone said earlier earning capacity is higher in Auckland (bigger city)

Have been here 2 years now from Uk- wadebridge, cornwall. Did the sidecar enduro trail bike circuit. From what I can remember of the trail biking in the \uk I would say NZ dirt biking is cheaper and is way easier and more places to ride. As for mx again way cheaper - ardmore is $10 ( £3.30!!!!) a ride. For dirt bike heaven best place to be is probably live around hamilton in my opinion about 1-2hrs and potentially still has high wage earning capacity. Only reason we don't live there is its too far from the sea. Cave weta has just about covered all the parks but there are stacks of charity rides over here that are fantastic. fab countryside- has all of europe = wrapped into one. see http://www.silver-bullet.co.nz/events.php that'll give you some idea but there not all listed.

The Bay of plenty offers heaps of riding. You can race mx every weekend in the season if you want, ride every day at maddix park as well as the trail rides on offer.
New Zealand is dirt bike heaven, choose your lifestyle!

Thank you everyone who has replied! :D I won’t quote every one of you (I post on a UK MX forum and find billions of quotes quite annoying to read) But I am very appreciative to all of your replies.
We’re out for a holiday in January in Tauranga - We’re hoping we won’t have to come back. Hubby is a hard working carpenter/bricklayer who works exceptionally hard during the week and all we live for is our passion riding MX at weekends. We don’t have flamboyant life-styles - we just want to work, exist and ride dirt bikes. That’s all that makes us happy. :D
We’d like to settle over there for a better life for us and especially our two sons….. We need to survive, but money is not that important as long as we have our dirtbikes. We’ll be checking out vicinities once we’re there.

Well if hubby is a chippie you will have no dramas getting work in the Tauranga region and you can ride to your hearts content. Good luck!

not trying to stir, but Auckland does pays more than other places.
In Napier I got paid around half as much, same for my wife. Booom moved up to auckland from Gisborne and got paid twice as much as he did in Gissy.
It can all even out, but yes it depends on what you do and what lifestyle you live.
As a builder he will be fine in just about anywhere in NZ.

You can get payed well anywhere in NZ, but there is alot more opportunity to do so in auckland and if you get sick of one job there will be someone down the road who is willing to pay you the same or more to join them.
But if a good lifestyle is what you are after, then the BOP is hard to beat.

Dirt Bike Central is Central Otago. Unfortunately for you it is in the New Zealand, (not the North Island).
However, for those who choose not to visit the real New Zealand, there is some good off road riding in the Tokoroa - Taupo area. :sunny:

no,
you cant.
exactly what cheese said.
you can get paid well in places other than auckland, only in very few industries and only in very few places.
from my research, tauranga is NOT one of those places.

If you have a trade behind you like this guy then it won't be a problem! Everywhere in NZ needs people to build things and there is a lack of skilled people to do this. Auckland presents the best opportunities without a doubt but there is plenty of other opportunities in the country if you have some sort after skills to offer.

I can sort family accomodation at awesome rates at www.bularangi.com (www.bularangi.com):zzzz:and Ive got adult sized riding gear,- you will just have to Bring the boy's gear. Nicola just for your info fletcher construction are presently recruiting from the UK. http://www.fletcherconstruction.co.nz/building.phpthey are after chippy foreman etc. Could be worth applying as they will help with residency and pay for you and your family to get here. Like they did for us. If you want more info PM me.
This is a good site to visit http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/index.phpit gives good info on what living in NZ is really like in comparison to the UK. Expect a significant pay drop in comparison to UK money - at a least a third. However cost of living relative to what you earn we have found that it is cheaper to live here.

We are passionate about MX - it’s our life! We’d also want to trail ride once we’re over there (something which is frowned upon here) (actually, any off-road riding is complained about :angry2:)
Thanks very much for your reply. We already have accommodation for the first few weeks sorted thank you - a little bach in Papamoa. We’ll look into other areas once we are out there. With regards to the boy’s kit - that’s already been packed and is in storage with our bikes.
On our arrival we’d like to get to know the areas and concentrate on work and our ITA (we’ve already been selected from the Pool)
We’d like to hook up with you once we are over there though. Your website looks fantastic! I love the look of your tours - We just can’t wait to get over there. :soon:

Thank you for your reply! :D I’ve sent you a pm
I’ve emailed Fletcher Construction my husband’s CV. We’ve already paid for our flight over. This has been our goal for the last 18 months and we’re counting the days now until we get on that aeroplane.
