:gob: What happened that required the fitting of a new air filter? I haven't come across that problem yet! You tried Botany Honda yet?
Otherwise, I know of a few overseas sites you could try

Is it a paper air filter or a foam air filter?
The Honda shops up here in Auckland should stock them or at least get them in when ordered.
Botany Honda in Botany Downs, South Auckland.
Wild West Honda in New Lynn, West Auckland.
Couple of Honda shops over on Barry's Point Road, Takapuna.
gijoe1313 - after 82,000kms you should have cleaned your air filter a few times by now!!!!!

the filter element is paper with a stainless steel surround which seals on a rubber ring

Dont wet the paper......
I believe that you can clean them up and reuse it until your new one arrives.
But I am not sure how you clean up the paper ones.
I have a foam air filter on my bike..... real easy to clean up and only just replaced mine after 106,777kms and a few cleans before replacement.
Can you by chance post a picture up of your air filter?

An OEM paper one should last quite a few years if looked after.
But a K&N will give it 50HP more!! Just get an OEM honda one. Problem solved.

He's not called Anthrax for nothing you know.....
K&N's have a reputation for poor filtration as they have bloody great holes that let lots of air in so you can rejet your carb/s to use more fuel...unfortunately the bloody great holes also let in lots of dirt & grit.
Paper elements can be cleaned by blowing them out with compressed air and then re-used. If its beyond it's use by date (no they aren't dated) then replace it with another OEM filter.
USE THE STOCK FILTER ELEMENT in case the former was too subtle
that will be $5.40.

Now once you've fitted the OEM paper one you can use the old filter to make a foam reusable one by dismantling the old one and replace the paper with foam element if you feel adventurous. The foam is available in two grades from a ParaRubber store. Get the finer one and oil it with 90 weight gear oil.
From what I've glend over the years, and this isn't much, paper has proven to be the best air filtration medium by far.

There is a high chance that the bike will run lean if you use a K&N, depending on how much this could upset the bike.
I hope you relise that a K&N will cost about 3x that of the Honda filter.
However if they make them you can try:
HighFlow
DNA
Uni
best bet might be to ring a Brisbane Honda shop, maybe.

Yeah, even if he has to order one in, I'll guarantee his mark-up will be substantially less. Seems on the high side, but perhaps paper filters are more expensive than the old-style foam ones. Also -- with the foam ones you normally just order the filter element -- are paper ones the same? I.e., don't buy the whole cage, just the filtering bit. If that's how the paper ones work.

No the paper ones are all one piece, unlike the one on your RS.

An ideal candidate for being converted to a Unifilter. :niceone:
Buy some filter foam, cut the old paper elephant out with a very sharp knife (ask your parents to do it for you if you're clumsy), then cut your filter foam to be a tight fit in the holder, and glue it in with something sticky (chain spooge, elephant snot, silicon adhesive, or hot-melt glue).
Wait for it to dry, then bung it in.
If you want to indulge in extra safe breathing, or you ride your bike at the speedway or on the beaCH, or your bike likes dustbaths, treat it with some filter oil, or something sticky (see above).
If you go down this route I would sugest some sort of mesh to support said foam if the filter is a flat cageless design. Remember the Honda OEM filter is guaranteed to fit and work with no modification or jetting issues. But what would honda know eh?
