You'll find it comes down to a very simple philosophy that has served me well over many a year.

Because they can.

It probably has something to do with the Merkins invading Iraq. > Fuel prices going up. > Transportation costs involved, skyrocketing. = Higher priced pizza.
Or something completely different.

Make your own. Tastes bloody nice and it is easy to do (this comment from the world famous food poisoner and food burner...):sweatdrop

Isn't that because they cost "a fuckload" more than dominos to start with?

For a second there I thought you were III.

Price up chicken anywhere has gone up lately. Hell the sandwich I usually get for lunch at the bakery across the street from work has gone up $1.50.

Spot on. The Bad Mutchers' chicken boobies (skin on) was $6.99kg a year or so back. Now? $$$!!more.

Because people are stupid enough to pay it. The same as their public holiday surcharge - which I laughed at and walked out.

I disagree. Hell pizza has gone to hell. Their flavours are weak. They try to make up for it with a theme, but it doesn't cut it.

IMO Hells is worth the money. $8 for a snack size pizza is a good deal, especially when you go gourmet on that shit. Hells is generally better quality and not that I'm racist but Dominos/Pizza Hut etc lately all seem to be run by asians...

Hells Pizza FTW!

I like dominos, dnt really mind the surcharge on chicken as most of my pizza aint chicken. Only thing that pisses me off is they wanted to charge $7 to deliver from browns bay to mairangi bay

Try Calimero... I use the one on Remuera Rd, I'm pretty sure they have one or two more scattered around (Mission Bay/Kohi?). Reasonable price for snack-sized pizzas -- maybe $9 compared to the above-mentioned $8 at Hell. Beautiful fresh thin crusts, cooked perfectly (not burned and tough like the mass-produced chains), fresh ingredients, good sauces. Make excellent pasta too. Good people too.

its easy to disguise any processed crap as meat. chicken is a little harder so they actually have to use real chicken, hence the extra $$$$.

dominos can stick their cardboard reflux inducing kak so far up their own arse that the cant get rid of the cheesy pong from the back of their pizza shit arse sinuses.

Is that all you can eat? One tiny little snack size? Hell man last time I ordered from them I had two double lusts and cajun wedges. Gets expensive then, so pizza hut is the cheaper option that still taste palatable.
Dominos may as well serve cardboard.

Was well prepared several years in advance for Movember; call him for all your plumbing needs and disposing of unwanted mushrooms/sliding turtles.

While we're on the subject of pizza...

'Mama Mia' in Mission Bay isn't what it used to be. We went there for a snack last Sunday afternoon and got a small one for $15 and it was crap. Flavourless, fuck all topping and the crust was dry rubbish. It'll be a long time before I go back, if ever.

On a slightly related note, 'Swashbucklers' has gone to the dogs too since Ginger died. I heard the kids took it over. Anyone know if this is true? We used to be regulars there, but with the portions getting smaller (fishermans platter was down about 30%) it's no longer reasonable value. I'll miss the beef bearnaise but you have to have principles.

They can't.

Under the Fair Trading Act: Unless there's a clear price difference stated and advertised for any pizza that has chicken (for which they want a surcharge), then they can't charge it (Commerce Commission v Qantas et al).

Any price difference has to be clearly stated for the actual product you are purchasing. In the above case, surcharges were deemed to be misleading advertising and failing to make the correct price of the goods or service available to the reasonable expections of the customer.

I was once worked for Eagle Boys then Pizza hutt took over for who
I worked for but only for a short time, They say it's to cover processing costs.
Really I think it's because they can, I always got the impression that they really don't care about the customer their only interest is making money, it's not a franchise so you end up with managers who don't care.
The delivery surcharge is fair enough but the half & half cost is bollocks it's
just another way to rob you of your money.
Most of their pizza's are pre-made during the day so they don't want the hassle of making special ones. Doesn't make them any faster.

I think Hells is the best by far at the moment.

I always got the impression that they really don't care about the customer their only interest is making money, Publicly traded company, that is it's goal. If it didn't, the shareholders could have a sook. If you were a shareholder, you might be upset if they didn't make money.

You did offer the solution however, a franchisee has the chance to make a quality product even if effects the bottom line somewhat.

I'd say the opposite is true - there's no incentive as in a franchise you're always going to be tarred with the same brush as the rest of the franchise holders. One corporate however will realise this and meet the market.

In Wellington there are many New World supermarkets. When I lived on one side of town, there is a New World that has prices that would not look out of place at Countdown. On the other side of town there is a New World that is what I suspect is the most expensive supermarket in the entire country.

And it has been mentioned to me that two Hell Pizza stores (Which are not that far apart..) have different quality products. A central city pizza connoisseur has informed me of their preference :) .

Maybe some customers notice the difference, and some don't.

Well the other half likes the chicken, god knows why.

I got 2 large pizzas, 1.5l coke, and chips for $26 delivered. Not bad.

A meatasauras with the triple cheese burst crust beats Hell's Lust hands down.

But yeah, why a surchage on fucking Chicken?!?

You didn't pay much attention to the battery hens thing on the new a while back did you.
Apparently people don't want to eat chickens that have spent their entire life living in a cage barley big enough for them. Free range tastes better, so people want free range. But Free Range is more expensive so companies have to make that up somehow.

That's my explanation anyway unless someone else who owns a chicken farm has an inside scoop.

Mmmmmm barley... :drinknsin

I read an interesting report on a blind taste test where the participants couldn't tell the difference in flavour of battery and free range eggs to the point where they preferred the battery variety. 'Penn & Teller: Bullshit!' did the same thing with bottled waters and New York tap water with similar results. It seems more psychological than real.

Could be. PErsonally I don't care where it's from as long as it tastes good.
