They probably followed you to see where you were stashing the bike if thats all they took. Or did they take anything else? Sometimes I feel someone is following me as I near home so I stop at the shops or go down a different road or something to be sure. Good thing is I'm here most of the time with the bikes anyway.

i wasnt aware potential bke theives were such an issue! the above stories are quite concerning! i havnt noticed people following me, but i havnt really been paying attention..
a real problem with dirt bikes is that its so hard to identify a particular bike (unless you owned it and knew all its intricate scrtches etc) as you can easyly just chuck new plastics and graphics etc on it and hey presto - nobody recognises it. it really fucks me off bikes getting stolen, not just because it sux for the person getting it stolen, but because thats the reason it costs a shitload to insure it due to the high theft rate

not much use if you can undo the dynabolt or cut the chain or padlock. itl slow them down
in a place like your's you better off making it impossible to get out of the shed i reckon, sure they can break in, but they cant get the bike out the window

My heart goes out to you. :( I hate hearing of thieving scumbags. In the UK it’s rife. When people get wind you have bikes - they are out to take what is not theirs. :angry2: People will even follow you home from a MX track.
We have always kept our bikes in our house. Pride of place in the lounge. Anyone we know who is non-MX finds it funny that we have bikes in the house and the women can’t believe that I allow bikes in the house. But to us they are part of our family - it may sound odd but I wouldn’t want them to be anywhere else.
I hope you get your bike back and I hope whoever stole it gets their comeuppance. :bash:

Does your business have insurance? Can you claim for the bike on that? Or can you get your business' insurance co to battle it out with Lumley? Just tell them "one of you fuckers are gonna pay for it, it's up to you to decide which one".
To be honest, I can't actually see how Lumley would have a leg to stand on as long as the building was locked. If you don't get any joy out of them, then take it to the Ombudsmen (it's free).

it gose a litle like this i own 50% of (wife has other 50%) Newmarket Auto repairs LTD bike which i own in my own name is put into work shop to be serviced on the monday or when ever we have a slow peroid before it is required agian (no rush on it) bike get stolen 12 hours later a 5am now insurance co cant see past the fact that i own the bike andam my own seperate person from the company and dont see me as being a legit customer as there are no invoices for any work done on bike remember that the bike only has 5-6 hours on tried to explain that it was only there for its 1st service and got stolen before this took place so how could there be an invoice.
Next they say to help me out they will back date the policy and need to get a quote 1st so on the 16-17of dec i get mail saying that its been uploaded on the the work shop policy back dated to the 1/12/07 (bike stolen 3/12/07) you would think at this point all would be sweet but no they still turn it down becuase it was loaded on 74 day after i bought it not there 45 they request try to explain that the purchase date dosnt matter only the date of which i choose to inssure it from but they say NO (i have now been told they cant back date the policy) their problem will come in the fact that i have it in writing on their (brockers) letter head that is is covered . Then to top that of i get a letter explaining all this today and at they bottom it say if we had been asked to inssure the bike we would have declined due to its high risk like fuck you allready quoted and excepted ya bunch of mother f&&%#@%^#$#$%. Any way to thei we have no told them that if thay dont pay out i Aaron (being my own seperate person ) will sue Newmarket Auto Repairs LTD for the loss of my bike while in it care the Co will in turn then claim this on the public liabillity insurance in cluding all court cost etc etc which they will have to pay out and will in turn cost a lot more and will only incure a $500 excess not the $1000 for the vehicle insurance. Total fuck up really as if you sue your self in a sence guess what your going to loose.
Anyway looks like tis could take a while so guess no riding for a good few months i would guess may look at getting a cheap shitter to trash only problem is ill be that pissed of ill proberly end up kill the thing and loose money on that as will.

Barty5 I feel sorry for you dude. I had two bike stolen last year - and after 15 years of no claims on anything, the insurance company treated me as "guilty until proven innocent" in other words they investigated me, were the bikes really stolen? Interviewed everyone involved, queired cops to make sure all the sotires lined up etc etc. Basically they though I was engaging in fraud. FFS why would I have ditched my beloved Ducati I owned from new.>!>!>!@@ it took me ages to get paid out, which they did in the end, not before I had to get stroppy wiht them though.
Anyway my point is insurance companies spend 85% of their energy looking for loop holes or ways to not pay out. Sadly this is because there are idiots out there who have ripped them off in the past. Good luck I hope it pans out for you.

With the number of offroad bike thefts, I think it's about time the cops/LTSA do something to fight this.
I reakon all offroad bikes, registered/warranted or not, should require the chassis/engine number intact (Frame and engine markings). Allow for a 6 month period to have non-chassis/engine numbered bikes marked. All off-road bikes are then in a nationwide database and can be traced.
Then the police can begin conducting random number checks.
After six months, No number = serious questioning on how the bike was obtained and no legitimate answer = criminal record database entry/confiscation.

heck some tossers still steal the new sports bikes that need whole new ignition barrels and assorted chips of you don't have it's 3 original keys... probably sell them as parts or don't know any better... we saw one dumbass on symonds st. trying to start one with a screwdriver in the ignition
