View Full Version : Tyre pressure?

I noticed my tyres were pretty low the other day and decided to inflate them to the psi specified in my manual of 1 BAR (14psi). The rear was at 4 and the front was at 8 so they were pretty flat. So off I went up to the Karapoti thinking I would see some improvement in handling. I was wrong, very wrong. Everytime the front wheel hit an object it would shake. The bike handled 10 times better before hand.
I'm thinking I should drop the front down to 10psi or so and the rear to 8.
Any advice guys?

I run heavy duty tubes and my bike is pretty good at absorbing bumps so I can usually get away with between 7-9 psi. Some tires like S12's need more though like 12 psi because they have a soft side wall, and they handle better with more pressure. For rocks I would run at least 9 psi, for mud sometimes around 6 psi so depends on many factors. If you start getting flats with heavy duty tubes of course you need to run more pressure. If you started out with 14psi on a warm day you might have ended up with 18-19psi. I always recheck them through the day after a run because the pressure does increase, quite a bit. Karapoti has a lot of rocks as I recall. If they are sharp edged rocks you need to be careful and avoid what you can or run a little more pressure.

Cheers Danger. The handling difference was insane.

i normally run 12 or 13psi in tyres, as danger says you need to run heavy duty tubes to run any lower,

I normally run between 10-12 psi and if its real muddy I might drop them to about 8.

All just personal preferances i always run a lil less in the front to the rear i find it stops the front end pushing and insted the rear drifts out a lil bit more im normaly 10 in the front and 12-14 in the rear. Unless my mates are mean and put 30PSI in when im not looking lol.

Ageed. about the same as what I Run, I would also reccommend heavy duty tubes.
