View Full Version : Free engine oil with a catch...

I guess since there's a catch it's not really free...but it's close to being free.

I'm doing a short survey to get some information on a few things for a business I'm considering starting at some point (motorcycle related of course).

All those that fill out the survey will go into a lucky draw for a 4L Motul 15W50 engine oil. Once you've filled out the survey just pop me a PM so I know who has filled out the survey. Obviously people could just start sending me PMs without doing the survey but for the greater good I hope everyone plays fair.

You can click on the link below to start the survey.

http://www.polldaddy.com/s/4349FD4F786C2202/

Thanks in advance for your help.

EDIT: I'm in Auckland by the way so whoever gets this will have to come and pick it up from me (unless you're willing to pay for shipping). I'm willing to travel within a reasonable distance of where I live (Mt Wellington). Apologies to all non-Aucklanders. You can still fill in the survey though :)

EDIT2: Survey ends on midnight this Sunday 9/12.

EDIT3: OK...this is obviously not my day job. I just noticed that I can have at most 100 responses to my survey. This shouldn't be a problem but on the off chance I do get up to 100 responses then I'm sorry about the 101th person.

Now where are my steak knives?

(My "suggestion": cater to the less well catered to bikes and you'll have (possibly small) markets all to yourself. Bring in some Z750S bits - you'll have at least one customer, and I WILL ride more than 20km...)

Haha. I've got none of that but I do have a few CBR250RR MC24 bits lying around somewhere.

about those "Please rate the following in order of importance to you in a motorcycle shop. *" questions... what's the asterisk for and i hope you really wanted them ranked in order of importance relative to each other, rather than just "how important are the following things"

now gimmie some oil:D

All good questions. I actually meant the first but by the answers I'm getting I think people are naturally interpreting it as the later which is OK too. However this does prove you actually read the question properly.

The asterisk just means the question is mandatory (which they all are).

Done. Hopefully if you do start a buisiness you don't employ a young parts guy who just doesn't give a shit and undoes all your good work by providing crappy service. If you do then you'll just be like all other auckland shops and won't get my money. I will travel the extra distance to Hamilton for good service and regularly do. You only get one chance with most customers and the difference could be just a phone call telling them their bike is ready or their part is in rather than them having to call you repeatedly only to be told by the school leaver on the phone "uh I dunno? I think it's here/ready" while you can tell he's really thinking "just stop bugging me" Service is everything! get that right and you'll kick arse.

done, friendly service, also a good range is a must form me, i very rairly leave a bike shop without something i didnt really need, just cause its cool etc. When I want something, I usually want it right away and dont really care about cost. I would rather buy local than online if the backup support is there

Sweet - Glad to help! And my recomendation! - sell dirtbike stuff- people break it more often and tend to replace helmets and apparel more often!

I'll get PM the person who wins the draw and sort out the details later. I don't need contact details for everyone. Just the person that gets the oil.

That occured to me as well...although it seems according to the survey most bikers ride sports bikes. But I can see the logic.

After looking at the results from this survey I think I'll probably need a couple more surveys closer to the time to sort out what type of products I'll actually have.

re on-line - I frequently buy on-line from the USA - and it is mainly stuff that I can get right here, however I can often get it including shipping from American cheaper. I have no idea what margins are in NZ, but I can tell you I can probably buy some items on-line cheaper than the wholesales sell them to our dealers.

Example - a pair of yoshi slip-ons for the Hornet 900 - local quote NZ$1600, on-line shipped to my door NZ$850. Bastard of a shame I don't have the $850 spare :weep:

THanks for the top tip. 'Tis is true. I can never understand why they don't call you when you get your stuff.

I know because I'm the one that does the draw :p But seriously I'll probably use some fancy number generator thing (Excel) to work out who wins.

People can just PM me when they've done the survey. It's a trust thing. Ultimately I get some feedback and somebody gets some oil. If people want to "cheat" the shame on them. But I like to think that us bikers are above all that.

For those that are wondering I haven't forgotten about doing the lucky draw. I've just been really busy this week. I'll get to it this weekend and get in touch with the lucky winner.
