We went to the Transit Road Barrier Seminar today and made our point very well and with great dignity - and were treated by Transit in kind. A Great Day.

I'm home but YET AGAIN failed to complete a long ride on my own two wheels. YET AGAIN I got trailered home (thanks AJTurbo). YET AGAIN it was with an unserviceable back tyre. I got a puncture just coming into Levin so it was Nasty (and AJTurbo) to the rescue YET AGAIN. This is getting embarrassing. Please God, can't i finish a ride all by myself just once? Please please please.

Too knackered to tell it all tonight, so here's a map of our 899km trip (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=13109144162434723536,-40.210671,176.094189%3B5960313064904022074,-40.020384,176.323872%3B17323029076445079052,-39.510599,176.849299%3B15441160133141551946,-39.420551,176.867473%3B9762393294917930677,-38.517490,175.820000%3B2860130875357378402,-38.910690,175.342300&time=&date=&ttype=&saddr=Upper+Hutt&daddr=Masterton+to:Woodville,+Manawatu-Wanganui,+New+Zealand+to:-40.210671,176.094189+to:-40.020384,176.323872+to:Church+Rd+%40-39.510599,+176.849299+to:Bay+View+%40-39.420551,+176.867473+to:Taupo+to:Poihipi+Rd+%40-38.517490,+175.820000+to:SH+4+%40-38.910690,+175.342300+to:Waiouru+to:Levin+to:-41.140399,174.843979&mra=dme&mrcr=9&mrsp=12&sz=11&via=5,8&sll=-41.045181,175.069885&sspn=0.381666,0.63858&ie=UTF8&ll=-39.83385,175.594482&spn=3.108814,5.108643&z=8&om=1) - I made 825.6km this time or 91.8% of it. Kendog! ... old buddy ... mate ... I just realised, you and I did a longish (500km) ride and nothing happened to my back tyre did it. That settles it, you're the God of Back Tyre Protection ... that means next time we attempt the Napier, Taupo, Taumaranui loop, you have to be with us :scooter:

Well that was my first decent ride on my bike. Considering I have not been riding for very long, Big thanks to Grub, you set a really comfortable and enjoyable pace. Learnt bucket loads from watching your lines, and how and when you did things... And yes have to agree with you, it is really satisfying when things click into place and everything is smooth.

So the riders were from Rimutex - Grub - Aero - Dingoz - Jarrod, and that was the order for most of the ride.

The journey up, was very very pleasant. Loved Sh50, man that is a nice piece of road.... Nice mix of twisties and straights.

We caught up with Scott on the southern side of town, and he led us to the meet point at Bayview, for a quick refuel. The others had already gone ahead.

Napier - Taupo road, well what can I say that you all don't know already. LOVE IT, kinda road you can ride again, and again, and again, and not get tired of.

The CC ride in Taupo went off really well. Glad to see that the point is getting through. Gotta keep at this though, otherwise under the carpet it will go....

Lunch time, and the chance to meet a few more riders from KB. Then the all important decision was to be made about which way to head home via. Grub chucked out that he thought the Western Lake Rd, would be nice, so Grub, Myself and Skunk, geared up and off we headed. Straight to the servo for Grub to fill up......Oh wait - try to fill up.... I think he managed 6 times to try and get the attendant to take the pump off pre pay - to no avail. Cap closed, and off around the block to the next service station we went. Yay, full tank and we headed off. Grub in the Lead, then me, with Skunk bringing up the rear.

Now that road from Taupo to the junction Sh 4 is absolutely brilliant. Had some real fun on that one. Flicking between the corners...:)

Taumaranui to National Park, could not help but grin when we hit the junction at Taumaranui, as I know that particular piece of road very well, and had a blast on the bike. Fuel stop at National Park, and it was decided to go ohakune and then sh 1 home. Bit of a freshen up stop at Waiouru, (drink and some choccy was just what the doctor ordered ), and then the slog down sh 1 home.

LEVIN = Puncture for Grub........... Phone call made and trailer on the way.

Skunk and I took off, as soon as everything with Grub was sorted, he was going to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee, or two.....

The only thing that was not enjoyable about the ride from Levin back to Welly was the sunstrike. (And of course having to leave Grub behind), Couple of times could not see anything in front. But you get that I suppose at that time of day.

Also saw how NOT TO PARK YOUR COMMODORE, somebody had parked their c-dore up the bank - boot facing the sky. Did well to jump over the ditch I must say.....

Arrived home safe and sound, just before 8:30. So all in all, I had an absoultely brilliant day. Enjoyed the riding, enjoyed the company. Learnt loads, found heaps more confidence. Now waiting for the next event to come up......

So thanks again to Grub, Aero, Skunk, Jarrod, for the ride up and back.

Till next time ..... Ride safe....:niceone:

A huge ride, especially for a newbie(ish). Well done, and most of all well done for making the effort to be at Taupo.:2thumbsup
Important note...you are discovering that the higher the number of the highway, the more fun it is to ride.
