For the past month following my crash I have been afraid to get back on a bike (not that I can just yet, my throttle hand is on the broken collarbone side), but I was seriously thinking of giving up.

But now I just bought a new bike! Well, it's an old bike, a 1988 Kawasaki KLR-250, but it is in good condition and has been well cared for. And cheap!

I stumbled across the wee green beastie just a couple of hundred metres from where I am living, and I had to have it.
Perfect for zootling (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=62478)around town to whatever job I get when my arm heals, and I will get in touch with some of the Dunedin off-road riders who have offered to show me how to ride on the dirt.
I have never had a bike capable of going off the road before, my previous bikes have all been road bikes so this will be very interesting. (actually, I had a Honda CT110 for two weeks, so that's not exactly true.)

I could even put on some road tires and pretend it is a proper motard.
Most excited!

(won't be able to ride it till i heal in about a month or so though, so i will be just staring at it a lot.)

 You'll like it dude, and learn a lot. Some of the disciplines you learned for the road will see you on your arse in the dirt though, so do get a senior dirt dude to sort the basics for you eh? Can save you a bunch of time, effort and skin.

Oh, and maybe invest in some bark busters eh?

Luck.

Awesome!
My sherpa is the slightly wimpy smaller sibling of the KLR, and I'm really surprised at how nice it is on the road.
A set of handguards would definitely complete the look. I put Zeta 'armor' guards on mine. They are yet to be impact tested, but they look nice and sturdy.

Good one - glad you didn't give up, and quite envious of your new wheels! Just been reading about them in the Kiwirider mag

edit: oops, was the 650 in the mag, still nice though!

Nicely done dude.

I look forward to the first wheelie photos!

Just remember, they're neither big nor clever

Nice one man, your gonna love it! :headbang:

So if you can't ride it for a month yet, I guess you've got time to paint it black then?! :blip:
