I'm thinking of connecting to Woosh in Invercargill but have had so many bad stories that it might not be worth the hassel.
Woosh set up early in Southland and many people have connected. I tend to hear bad stories from tech people who aren't average users so anyone here have any experience?

I kinda know this guy... *cough*
He helped build their original 2.4GHz network...
Wouldn't touch them with a barge pole personally.

Barge pole huh? I thought it was wireless - no poles required.

No.
I don't know anyone happy with them. I know a couple of people who've used them as a low-end provider. In both cases they set out with really low expectations and in both cases they were still enormously disappointed.
Completely crap. Consider a vodem. Consider ADSL. Shit, put the packets on a floppy disk and send them over with a carrier pigeon, it'd work better.

I have Woosh and I am happy with their internet providership (yes I know its not a word but Woosh made me do it) HOWEVER.......... Their customer service SUX ARSE! Initially they were awesome but now that they've got me signed up they never answer emails or the phone. BUT..... Very easy to sign up with and a pretty good deal.
I guess I dont really know wether I am happy or not. That's cause I woman.....

Woosh are "okay" if you're checking emails and doing internet banking and that's about it.
Don't touch their wireless if you need to upload files, download large files, or use an application that needs sub 300ms pings.

Sadly you are all confirming what I had previously been told. Guess I'll stick with Telecom and use a wireless modem in the house.

Voda's Vodem deals are pretty reasonable. Quite fast too, if you're in a 3G area.

For the price - you can't get any cheaper (phone + broadband = $60 month) saving a little over $100 a month since loosing Telecom
I regularly use 5G a month, but I'm not "on" when everyone else is - I'm different.
Haven't really had any hassles with them - phone sometimes gets a bit echoee but that is effected by weather (same as Sky)
Orcon is supposed to be up there, only heard good things, but you get what you pay for.
Woosh suits me for what I am currently doing, If I change or start big downloads regularly, I'd seriously look at Orcon - fuk Telecom, pack of unhelpful, theiving bastages.
My $0.10c
