View Full Version : A public game of correspondence chess

Who'd be up for one?

Any closet KB chess fans, register your interest here. You don't all have to play, but it'd be good to know how much interest and/or kibitzing could be relied upon.

The players would alternate posts, with moves in standard notation. No time pressure, it can run for however many days it needs to. Intervals between moves can simply be filled with taunting, analysis and the casting of aspersions upon the players' ancestry.

Full public commentary allowed; this would be for the fun of it, not to prove any points with a win or loss.

Well, if we just paste in the move history in algebraic notation with each new 'move' post, it can be pasted right back into most chess programs (eg, WinBoard) and reconstructed on the screen. As in, say...

1. e4 c6
2. Nc3 d5
3. Nf3 Bg4

I don't mind posting download links and instructions for anyone who hasn't done that before and wants to participate.

Not my cup of tea. Be funny to watch however. A whole heap of geeks in cyberspace, chatting and making moves.......

I might go now.

If you geeky banana types would mind taking your accommodation arrangement discussions SOMEWHERE BLOODY ELSE, perhaps we could get back to seeing if there are any chess fans on KB.

I'd be up for it :)

As for being a closet chess fan... I tutor chess at my oldest's school every week and I was the president of the chess club at my college.

Comments... There's actually a public chess site...Imagine a NY park chess table area if you will...I have the site written down in my notes at the school will post it up on Friday if you are that keen.

...Since this is a biker site?...How long would it take before the thread gets cut during a game? :/

Good old-fashioned correspondence chess! Woo hoo! Sounds like terrific fun.

The less said about my chess-playing pedigree the better, least people think I was a spotty swatty humourless geek whilst at school...

Good one. We'll see if anyone else sticks their hand up. No point doing it in public if nobody's interested in watching...

Well, I used to spend a lot of time playing on fics.org. I'd head back there if I just wanted some on-board action, but I rather fancy a nice lazy correspondence game or two, with plenty of interspersed commentary from the friendly local KB community. One move a day on my lunchbreak is about as much as I could manage these days...

Righto.

So far, we have:

- Me
- Cajun
- Hitcher
- Her Handbrakeliness
- Tosh Pourer, if he can spare the time from his crammed calendar

I'll give it another day or so to see who else crawls out of the woodwork.

Actually, I'll be busy and offline for the next few days after tomorrow, so I'll probably have to resurrect this with an appropriate challenge next week, if you lot don't get going without me.

My roleplaying games, yes.

Company of the Dragon, no.

It's more like, warm up with combat soccer, learn set moves by holding arm up with weapon and squat until trainer comes back from smoko, then put on as much armour as you have or can find, then bash, hit, knock, stomp and slash the hell out of your opponent/s until you can't take it anymore :)

fun :)

I didn't work in the bookroom all my highschool career, and I didn't join the chess club for a year. Oh wait... :(
I probably won't play, since I'm crud at chess, and don't get the algebraic jargon of chess moves, but I'll happily watch, and spew out the odd jeer, and comment on your geekyness :blah:

I'm always game to join in group activities :killingme

I'll be in as well. And if it's a geek contest how about back in saffa land i got into the southern transvall chess trails as well as winning colours for chess at my primary (same level as intermediate here) but i also played sport so what does that make me?????????.
