View Full Version : What do you do for a job?

Storm

Yes, I know its been done, but there's been a fair few leave and a whole heap more folks join up, and I thought a poll option would be nice so we could see at a glance the sites make-up.

PS If you dont fit exactly into the categories above, dont get all precious and start declaring "you cant pigeonhole me! ". Just tick whatevers closest eh?

Also see http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=62639 for more options

Done all sorts over the years but mainly sales n marketing, sold investment properties here in NZ & Oz for 6 odd years including teaching young sales staff how to sell it & also been involved in the financing of investment property.

I turn time into cash any way I can

I am a professional taxpayer

I am currently a storeman/driver for a plumbing supplies outfit, so it is my job to get raped by management and customers alike so the tradesmen can get rich. I handed in my notice last week, salerys are a ripoff.

I also have a job as a yard supervisor on nightshift at the local supermarket, which is the best job I have ever had, my crew are all foreigners, so I have to communicate with people who don't speak engrish, when I dont speak fuck all portugese/spanish/korean/czech ect..., they are bloody funny and hard working to boot, better than any kiwis I have worked with.

I also fix bikes and turn parts into cash in my spare time, I would love to start a wreckers but at the moment I cannot forsee the capital arising to buy a decent stock.

After the christmas break I am starting a drainlaying apprenticeship which is something I have always been interested in, and can finally afford to do, so that should be good fun, also getting trained on earth moving machines too.....

I just passed my class 2 license yesterday too, so now I can drive a truck for money too, and you guys thought I was dodgy on a bike....

I squeeze all this in around my Wife and four kids who I love very much, I couldn't keep it up without their support

Yes.

After a week or so off work, I find myself compulsively coming up with random projects to tinker on.

Been at it since I was 12. Gotta have my fix.

Every so often, I worry that the rest of the world will wake up and realise that I'm taking money off it for shit I'd do anyway for fun, but people don't seem to mind.

None of you would be aware of all the hard work I do behind the scenes keeping this place online. In part, the success of Kiwibiker is about strong leadership, and that's exactly what I provide SpankMe and his moderators. It's a thankless job but I don't do it for recognition or money. I'm just proud to be a part of this community.

Many of you have asked me for an address so you can send me gifts as a sign of your appreciation this Christmas. I am truly touched by this and thought that this year I would take you all up on your very kind and generous offers. But please, I don't need gifts. I would rather you send donations to a charity I have help establish that cares for uninsured retired bikers of HOGS (Harley Owners Group) who have had an accident on their pride and joy and written it off. For many of them, this is their only asset and it saddens me that their biking days are over. I'm sure you can sympathise. So, please make your cheques out to: Crashed and Smashed HOGS but please just abbreviate this as the bank account is in the shortened name.

I do mechanical testing (materials testing, product certification etc). Lots of failure load / ultimate strength testing, plus prettymuch anything that has a "meets the requirements of standard AS/NZS 12345" on it has been tested by someone like me.
Other half of my job is NDT - Non Destructive Testing. Mainly used for industrial equipment lifetime assessment, statutory inspections etc. (ultrasonics, magnetic and penetrant inspections, the list goes on)

Lets see someone pigeonhole that! :bleh:

OOoohhhhh.... You try telling that to half the guys i work with it's just a trade job, they'd get aaaaaaallllll riled up, heheh. Actually, they might be good for a laugh on monday :D

And it's a good thing when i get bored of the same old thing at work to remind myself "Hang on, they're paying me to smash bash and break stuff :D"

I'm a Licenced Aircraft Engineer, dedicating my life to the national carrier.

On my days off I fly for a Skydive operation in Matamata and another one in Whitianga, then on my other days off I contract for a small aircraft engineering company containerising Alpha aircraft for export (after giving them a last fly in NZ :) ) and building a T51 Mustang like this one >>>>>>

Oh yeah then on my OTHER days off I fly a corporate aircraft around. Usually in the middle of the night.

Then at the start of Feb I'm starting an Instructor Rating just to keep me occupied.

The closest I get to flying is playing the miniatures "wings of war" game with my boys. I have trouble gluing the wings back on when they break.

Fraud Investigator

Now I'm a Mobile Personal Trainer, transforming unfit, overweight middle aged guys in their 30's 40's and 50's into the best physical shape of their lives. More rewarding than all the above combined.

PS If you dont fit exactly into the categories above, dont get all precious and start declaring "you cant pigeonhole me! ". Just tick whatevers closest eh?

Sorry, but none of those come anywhere near close to journalist/photographer - I know I am studying part-time at present but wouldn't class myself as a student so I can't tick any of them!
