New Zealands road racing history doesn't seem to be well documented at least not on the web. Wouldn't it be great if you could look up all the old results like the IOM site.

The only problem with making a list of all the "winners" that have raced bikes & sidecars over the years is that it would be a fuckin long list, How about just a list of the people that came first in the races.

was it not Russell Josiah - ZXR750 in 1993? could be wrong??
Nathan Spargo won the f3 championship that same year on a zxr400 too?

also prior to 95/96 formula 2 was run at nationals, not super sport

there must be some records somewhere surely??

If i needed this type of info i would go directly to the master distributors in N.Z.

Put it simply , if Yamaha won it in a certain year they are never going to forget and will have it documented somewhere, same for all the brands .

Trying to get old farts like myself to recall what happened last week is a struggle , a decade ago is suicide for the mind.
Just my 2 cents worth,

When I was at Boyles way back when...we supplied him a near new KX80 for him to race in our first indoor supercross. He did nothing but moan about the fact that it wasn't fitted with the grips he liked, and that it had an o ring chain on it, and he wanted them changed.

It was one of our very best customers sons bike, and there was no way we were gonna change a thing. He was several seconds faster than every other kid, and totally kicked arse. He was just an ungrateful, spoilt lil brat. On the other hand, Eddie Warren who we also helped with a bike, was the nicest guy you'd ever hope to meet, was was so thankful we'd sorted out such a nice KX250 for him.

When loading up my KR1 race bike onto my ute, I congratulated Gobert on his performance, and said he should contemplate road racing when he got a lil older. He said "fuck that, road racing is for pussies". I told him to tell Mick Doohan that. Years later when I was in Australia, and I came across Gobert in the pits when has was road racing for Honda Australia on RC45's. He looked a tad suprised and shocked when I told him that he was also a pussy after all.

If I'd had a quater of his talent, I sure as hell wouldn't have wasted it in such a fashion. To be given the chances he was (he earnt them no doubt about that), then to blow it all away? Retard.

Mate, remember that Supercross very well (even got a VHS tape of it) , Gobert was a spoilt little shit. His Sponsor was Allan Tomkins from Aussie and he was top dude how he got caught up with Gobert is beyond me. As for Fast Eddie Warren , nothing but the best memories of the yank , he was a true professional and really top guy. Last time I saw him was at The Christchurch Supercross at Addington a couple years later and I think he retired soon after. Gobert probably rode that way in SBK etc as he was probably high on something.

Yeah the KX 80 was Toby Elliots bike...think it even had Yokohama's on it that he complained about to! The KX250 was my mate, Pete Richardsons.

I worked for Bobby Morgan at Brisbane Yamaha for a while whilst over there, he was one of Gobert Snr's best mates. Gobert snr was just a lound mouthed Aussie slob/raving pisshead too. Not hard to see where Anthony got it from.

You are right Pete first Supercross was in Wellington Winter Show Buildings (Now Drama School) 1989,
Eddie rode your (Boyles) KX250 , he was real good that guy eh! Even won Supercross races in USA , so no slouch. Promoted by John "JP" Peters and Mark "ZM" Mcleod. Remember the cross up comp with Flash Gordon Ward doing his heel clickers , first time we had see anything like that , now look at Free Style these days. Hey Scott , yeah that Christchurch event was massive , Promoter was Bruce Skilton and Graeme Crosby . They also had the Pepsi Supercross war at Carlaw Park in 1990?(I've got that tape , it was the first TV3 outside broadcast). I remember standing on the Table Top with your Dad , and looking at the crowd , the stand was packed on Saturday night, from Memory "Herbs" were the band that night and Carlaw it was the "Blues Brothers Revue".

Choppa, you are getting the two mixing some of the parts up,

The wellington one had gobert on 80's, along with Brownie and Chris Staff on the RM's and a few others, Stacey O was on 125's against him as well, very tight and indoor,

the big endo from Buscell was Christchurch while he was leading on no 32, in the same race Nigel's helmet come off, i think Brad Thomas lead that race for a while as well,

Both were televised,

Ian, i remember going to Carlaw Park both nights, but did not go to Christchurch until the 2nd year, both those supercrosses were supported well, i got given a video of that race as well with some pukekohe club stuff, played it and Brownie lead Gobert for about 4.5 laps of a junior 125 final before Gobert got him on the last lap, followed by Damon Smith

Bit of a dredge here, for NZ SBK.

I see after searching, the first round at Taupo was canned due to track condition ?

Manfeild round should be this coming Saturday if it's still on.....

I was going to make the effort and go up for a look after last seeing Wanganui in about 2000. but nah don't think I'm free now so will flag it.

you missed a great weekends racing
