It's actually TrackFun not KR. TrackFun is myself and four guys from KR. However, Suzuki are the real stars and putting their money where their customers are!

best pay to talk to your own insurance company, but remember to tell them its a track/training day people will be there for you question and ask for pointers, Its not race event of any kind. most insurance company are happy with this.

Some will say your excess is a touch higher than normal, or anything so best contact insuraners and ask them.

Don't worry though, Kiwi Rider does its bit providing space for reports, news items etc that cover the Suzuki track days.

Best thing you could do is contact Suzuki and tell them how much you enjoy the track days. They're all enthusiasts too and they ride!

Four weeks to go and it's filling fast. If you haven't yet sent your entry form in, don't put it off, do it now! If you would like an entry form, get in touch with me and I'll make sure you get one. You can also wander into your local, friendly Suzuki dealer and ask them for an entry form, they have all been sent posters and forms. If you're haggling over the price of a new Suzuki, get them to throw in a free entry as a sweetener!

Contact details in first post.

chris

Some places left but ONLY if you own a Suzuki. Saturday 23rd February is the date, Taupo is the venue and the cost is only $80, Suzuki pay the rest for you; how good is that! A minimum of five sessions on the full track is what you get. There will be NO entries on the day so ask me for an entry form.

Six spots left for this Saturday :)

Tempting, tempting...

Unfortunately Cajun and me are off on tour in two weeks and knowing our luck one of us would damage the bike somehow... Plus, the increase in price from $50 to $80 has turned it from a $150 day to one costing over $200 and it'd hurt the holiday fund. :crybaby: Damn priorities *mutter*

Hi Chris, I own an SV650s so I understand that I am eligible to enter, however, I would prefer to bring my CBR to show the Gixxer boyz how it's done ? Thoughts ?

chris
22nd February 2008, 07:53
Thoughts ?
Let me think; one's a Honda the other's a Suzuki, errr.....

chris
22nd February 2008, 09:02
Obviously if you are entered for this Saturday you will be keeping a keen eye on the weather forecast. I have had phone calls from a few riders who are concerned about the chance of rain (quite high). This has put us in a difficult situation as it has been suggested that we cancel the event now. Problems with this are that it will prove difficult to contact all entrants before Saturday morning, thereby preventing them turning up to a non-event. Would anyone care to comment?

So are we allowed to bring our Hondas, Yamahas, Buells etc and go on the track? Or only if we own a Suzuki are we allowed to take something else on? Not trying to be annoying, just would like some clarification. Cheers.
Last Suzuki trackday I went to with the hubby I got the impression I wasn't allowed to enter on the track on my Hornet.

Definitely not an easy decision to make Chris. And it doesn't matter what you decide you wont be able to please everyone.

The Suzuki day last year that was cancelled due to rain I was pretty gutted about especially after the Sun came out later on. As had travelled for a few hours to get there etc and had been looking forward to it for ages.

Then on the other hand the trackday in December I think it was where it rained and didn't get cancelled I really enjoyed it and had lots of fun playing in the puddles :first:

Don't know if that helps at all. But some of my thoughts anyway. Hope the day goes well for you guys. :sunny:

Well, we've just had a bit of a chat here and have decided to run. The track have assured me that the drainage problems that forced the cancellation of the first day last year have been resolved and we can shorten the track if necessary. Track day in the rain? It's good practice!

Just a quick clarification. The track day we cancelled last year was due to the track flooding, not the rain. We had approximately 3 to 4 inches of standing water in some of the corners.

:sunny:

its not so much the rain its the chalky type dust that gets washed out of the track thats the problem, ask me and 27 other riders who crashed last year in the space of a couple of hours in very light drizzle.
wouldnt walk on that track in the wet let alone ride on it.

anyway, it wont rain, it will be fine and awesome !!!

Hey Chris, are these Suzuki tracks days as strict as the rules imply re going out in multiple groups?
Yes. It's fair and safe for everyone. We have different speed groups for a good reason. Mr Frosty is correct in his assumption as we had to drag his arse out of several riding groups for which he was not entered... Hi Tony :wavey:

FROSTY
22nd February 2008, 12:52
Hmm--tis true soo true chris. Ona borrowed bike in the fast group
then on my poor old XJ900 in the med group
Mind you in my defense I did manage to get you 20% of your entrys for that day --Shit dya realise thats nearly 3 years ago eeep .

chris
22nd February 2008, 12:56
Of the four days we ran in 2007, there were only three dropped motorcycles due to over exuberance. Keeping riders in their speed groups is something we take seriously. Wristbands are checked regularly to ensure it happens.

Blue Velvet
22nd February 2008, 13:00
Yes.

Thanks for clarifying. It's not that I don't understand, I was just interested as it's explicitly noted in your rules as a punishable crime.

Is there much fluffing round on the day or is it just straight down to business?

And how many riders per group?

FROSTY
22nd February 2008, 13:01

Unless we have to recover a bike, there is no waiting time between sessions. Riders are asked to come and wait in a 'collecting area' at the end of the pitlane once the session before is under way

And how many riders per group?
Depends but usually no more than the high twenties.

but after hearing how they fixed the flooding from last time, and a mate rang me to say he had a great time. im wishing those weather people could have been a bit more accurate. bugger bugger bugger.
glad ya had fun all. maybe ill make the next one. roll on hampton downs, it will only be a 3 hour trip yay.

unfortunately those track days are a bit pricy (with fuel and distance etc). move over taurang im moving down.

Can anyone tell me what the conditions were like and I will go and have words with my mate who was predicting floods of bibical proportions. Piccies would be good at rubbing it in.

The weather was overcast with the odd very light shower ( usualy for the slow group) by the time the next group went out the track would be dry again.
Try www.metvuw.com for your weather , rainfall charts are good. they predicted 1-2 mm of rain over 6 hrs for Taupo yesterday which was probably a bit pessimistic.

I kept an eye on the weather on the web and some sites reported 4mm of actual rainfall but that may have been in Taupo.

Bugger, looks like we made the wrong call this time. Good to hear however that it was a dry time for most.

I don't know if that was a wrong call - you still have to ride the bike in the rain there and back, and Auckland can be a distance if your'e behind a truck or two or three...

Next time

The weather was overcast but the sun did come out and there was some blue skies.:niceone:
Odd wee shower making a damp track but dried of quickly as it was warm and windy.
A choice day had by all I would think although the sessions were a tad long I thought...but I'm old and unfit.:crybaby:sweated like a pig.
Still running my SV1000 in as only a week old and done 1100km when I got to track so never took it over 7500rpm. Still managed to get rid of the Chicken stripes and ground the hero knobs down a bit so I am happy.
Certainly gets around those bends faster than the GSX1400...whole new style for me having not really ridden a sports style bike for 30 years.

It was definitely rideable. You missed some great track time.

In my experience, opting out unless you're there to see it with your own two eyes is an open invitation for Murphy to do you royally.

I don't have any photos but I do have mild sunburn as evidence... Oh and my tyres are more worn on the left side again :msn-wink:

Hey Trackday people~

Bit short notice an' all but... (...and repeating from the other thread...)

I'm looking to see if anyone taking their track bike down in a van/trailer has room for a bucket racer? Need to get the bike down from Auckland to Wellington and may already have a connection between Taupo and Wellington - just need the Auckland to Taupo leg taken care of.

See thread here:
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?p=1534845#post1534845

I offer cold beer, contributing dolleros for gas money, and, that's all really. :apint:

Let me know if you can help~
Cheers :niceone:

Really well ran, too bad it was a bit wet, but there were dry spots here and there!.

Everyone left near the end, so managed to get a good 30 + minute's on the track with less than 10 people on it. hehe.

That was one of the best trackdays I've done! :)

Usually it takes me pretty much the whole day before I start feeling like I'm riding at my best, but since I'd done the kiwitrackdays trackday on friday it carried over, so I felt like I was in the groove from the first session. First time I'd done two trackdays one after the other, if I get a chance I'll definately do it again.

The weather wasn't too bad, got a couple of dry sessions at the start, then it started to get damp in the 3rd session. I binned exactly the same place and method as I did a couple of weeks back: turn 3, the rear let go and I went for a slide! It broke the clutch lever, but other than that no significant damage. I had thought my previous bin was because of cold tyres and leaning it over too far, but one of the marshals had a look at the video and my tyre and said he reckons I might've rolled off the edge of the tyre. I think I'll post a separate thread about the bin and tyres somewhere.

I had a spare clutch lever, so went out again in the final two sessions. The 2nd to last one, I was passed by a guy on an RGV250 down the back straight, it seemed like the bikes were fairly evenly matched, but it was great following him for a couple of laps, his line around T14 (and all his lines in general) were better than mine. I dunno who it was. I couldn't keep up with him in the final session.

2nd to last lap of the final session, it had started raining a bit which I'd noticed but wasn't quite careful enough braking for the left hander at the end of the back straight, lost the front end, felt like I was going down, but slammed my foot down and the tyre re-gripped! Was able to brake in a straight line and slow myself down before going onto the grass, then check no-one else was coming round behind me before getting back onto the track.

Here's some clips from throughout the day.

first dry couple of sessions:

session 3 where I binned (bin at 2min 50s into video):

final couple of sessions, including a couple laps behind the RGV250 and the front wheel slide at the end:

Its come out very interesting, looks like a photo you get out of trouist trophy or simlar (looks better in the full 3888 x 2592), i have not touched it with anything apart from resizing it to post here

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the date of the Manfeild track day has changed from 22nd November to the 29th November. We are still offering the $130 deal if you book and pay for the last two track days at the same time. I have updated entry forms available, e-mail info@trackfun.co.nz if you would like one.

Couple of points raised in posts above.

Confirmation not being received: I send out confirmation of your entry either by post or e-mail. If you send an entry in and don't receive confirmation within a week or so, please contact me at the above e-mail or 027 406 7699.

Spot prizes and gifts: These are the responsibility of Suzuki NZ not TrackFun and are not given out at every Suzuki track day. In the past Suzuki have given gifts to each and every entrant at various Suzuki track days, not to mention the low price of $80 for a single entry or $130 for two entries!

We are hoping to have something special for Manfeild that every rider will be able to take advantage of for free, courtesy Suzuki NZ. More info on this to follow.

Any more queries please ask.

Still places left for both of the Suzuki track days to be held before the end of the year; 29th Novemebr at Manfeild and 13th December at Taupo. Enter both events together and pay just $130 instead of $160. This offer will also apply to those who have already entered, and paid for, one of the two dates left. E-mail info@trackfun for an updated entry form.

There are some people there you can ask for advise and pointers, often you can just talk to someone you see faster in your group and go tlak to them see they give your some pointers.

How experienced is he? Has he held a licence previously?

We have someone available on the day for rider help whether it be on track or off track. If requested, a rider will be taken out on track and shown the correct lines, braking points etc. For Manfeild and Taupo Glen Williams will be on hand to pass on help and advice; apparently he's quite good....

We have a novice group that will be perfect. It is for those who've never been on a track before or may be new to motorcycling. We're also very strict about riding standards in each group so there's no intimidation.

I wouldn't have thought so. At a track day it is highly likely you will be sharing the track with a number of bikes. The consequences should you drop the bike while attempting a wheelie could be disastrous.

Possibly. We will be running three speed groups at three sessions an hour. This will mean two hours of track time. It is however subject to track conditions, recovery of bikes etc.

May well seem like a daft arsed question, but what's the score with rockin up and just watching some of the day as I had planned to do this tomorrow at Manfeild whilst doing the loop of SH1 and SH2???

Yeah that's shouldn't be an issue. Come say hello if you do turn up. I've got the purple/yellow #18 bike.

A controlled environment to get to know your bike.......and do some training.

Better there than on the open road I would have thought?

Well, it was yet another fine Suzuki fun day. Full kudos to the guys running the show - you exceeded our expectations, yet again. I certainly can't complain about the weather and how much track time we got. I haven't had so much fun on the track in years!

My first session of the day wasn't a good one and I felt out of place on the bike. I hadn't ridden the 600 since April and I think it was a case of needing to familiarise myself with it again. It was also a very different beast to last time I'd ridden it because hubby has made lots of mods to it. Come the second session, WEEEEEEEEEEE!

I recognised some of the riders from last year (like the woman on the yellow/silver K7 1000) and it was great to see just how much my riding has improved. Last year, that particular woman got in my way and I found it hard to pass her. This year she wasn't an issue and I was obviously a lot faster.

It was good having one of the K8 'busas in the group because he would gas it down the straights and I had to out-brake him to get past. Damn good braking practice if you ask me!

I also had a good play with the guy on the black GSX-R1000 when he passed me about three laps before the end of the session. I was a bit disappointed that the session ended because I'd gained on him and would've been able to get in front again. It was such good fun and I've always had more fun chasing people than leading them.

Yeah I had a friend there too but there was someone who was taking photos as you came out of the left hander and I think they took photos of me, they may not have but I would be curious to see them if they did.

Full cred to the organisers. A very well managed meeting. They even took time to give some advice on setting up my rear suspension a bit better, unfortunately I couldn't make changes at the track. But will do before the next session.

This was my first vist to Manfield, what an awesome track. First time on the track with the old 5 hundy as well. All the riders we spoke to were really friendly.

Looking forward to riding at the next meeting at Taupo in a couple of weeks. Hope the weather is just as good.

Thanks again to Suzuki and organisers.

Yes there is. You'll need to e-mail info@trackfun.co.nz for an entry form. See this thread http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=87032 if you fancy joining the Triumph day at Taupo on January 18th.

Does the Taupo day have enough riders for two medium groups or will there only be one?

There will almost certainly be two intermediate groups. I would urge those who are considering signing up to do so now. Places are filling fast with only two weeks to go.

This is the last Suzuki track day of 2008 and as of now, no more are scheduled for 2009.

Yeah, the concern is that doing a hard out track days riding and then riding home after might be a tad unsafe...what with how tired I am usually after some track time...

Might try get a tow bar put on this week...
