Anyone near the Willis St/Lambton Quay intersection? Apparently there's smoke coming out of the building. A shit load of fire trucks and a couple of ambulances have gone past... there goes another one!

It appeared to be a diesal generator from the 13th floor Grub and Kendog work there so we wait with baited breath.

I work a block along. No power since 3:30, no traffic lights, fire engines everywhere.
Just heard more engines heading in from Kilbirnine.
Went home early cos couldn't do anything at work. Found out our stair wells have no emergency lighting, so used a little LCD light to get to basement, was able to ride out as someone had opened the doors.

...Found out our stair wells have no emergency lighting...

That's a worry. How big is the building?

12 stories. There were some folk with torches, and there are reflective strips on stairs, but some sections I couldn't see a thing. Will chase it up tomorrow.

12 stories...

It should definitely have Emergency Lighting, rated for 30 minutes minimum, usually 60 minutes.

Yeah, check it out tomorrow.

(I do building compliance inspection work - unfortunately I'm in Dunedin...)

oh ok, our building on Dixon St had a hiccup at like 3.30 too, all the power (lights, aircon, computers, the whole thing) went off but then came back on about 5 seconds later. I wondered what was going on.

A whole bunch of people went home cos they'd lost all their work after lunch and couldn't be arsed doing it all again, or something. Sadly I'd saved most of mine so I didn't have a good excuse to just give up and leave :/

..add Helen Clark's office (while she's in it) and it would be the perfect fire.

Well, that's the real name of Fletcher Construction. Fletcher Building Ltd is the parent organisation, and they have about 39 different subsidiaries including Fletcher Construction.
