I've just spent most of the afternoon on this.
<img src = 'http://homepage.mac.com/david_cohen_design/.Pictures/misc2/hp/hp22.jpg'>
Ooooooooh. I'm hyper. Quite superb.
I've almost got its groove and I tell ya - it's a bit of me.
Big and mega comfortable for a tall man. And I just love naked motorcycles. Ah don't want no screens or bodywork - I just want to sit on a motor and go - and boy does this thing go.
It's like the R1200S in some regards.
It's a thing of beauty when the power output is in harmony with its 1200 twin torque - schtonk at its best at 5,000rpm (and climbing) in 3rd and 4th gear.
Quite rapid when those power and torque planets align.
It's BMW NZ's test bike.
It only has 500km on it so I have been treating it fairly and it is loosening up with every Km.
Handling wise I think it has the lightest front end I've ridden - not twitchy, but the steering has a feather touch, conversely, big countersteering it and letting it 'fall' into corners and that motard way of swivelling from further down as you kiss the mirrors is stifff eeee.
Details as they come to hand.

And I changed it back. I think 1024px is perfectly acceptable. I will compromise and make it 800 however.
Not my preferred option.

Just outstanding photography.
Good muted colours on the bike for an overcast day, and that tree framing the right of the picture is very nice. Let's hope they put it on a right-hand side page, so it looks all cool and page-ripped arty.
One day I'll have a bike that nice.

Nice.I have a bunch of pigeon holes, which one should I put this into Dave? That frame has plenty of gaps you could shove all manner of birds in.
Why limit yourself to just one type of bird I say!

Nice.
I have a bunch of pigeon holes, which one
'Blardy noice motorcycle.'
Minus:
No pillion at all.
'Light comes on at 170km'
Seat is competition narrow.
Plus:
Riding position and general comfort.
1200cc twin grunt
cornering and flickability
tracking
funability*
*That's my second best new word this week - best is describing artifacts from the Invercargill festival as 'Munro-bilia'.
I still gots it.

I want one. There's something wrong with me.
It's ...
a, German
b, A BMW for god's sake
c, A shaftie - not bad, especially, but a bit weird
d, An opposed twin, or whatever they are called
e, A BMW, in case you didn't get it the first time
Am I getting old? Pretentious? It's maybe a tad motard but. Shit. I want one.

Lucky Bastard!
I count 'em every day man.
Some of the gigs I have coming up are jaw dropping.
Solid copy, tight word count, editable from the bottom with a humorous or anecdotal bent that doesn't get in the way of salient technical data, innovative, crisp pictures and get it in 3 days before deadline.
Helps if you can ride a bit. All I can tell ya. :Punk:

I've not been following the latest BMW models closely.
Did they actually release a factory supermotard version of the HP2? Or is that an unofficial conversion?

Have done no reseach - just been zooming on it. No death wobbles, stable, but extremely quick steering.
These types of bikes just make such good sense for the urban environment.
Around where I live and in the back of Mt Eden and the inner suburbs the byways are being turned into obstacle courses. Bumps lumps humps chicanes.
This thing, (and my Buell's) suspension just eats it.
Stand on the pegs and charge through - great fun.
And bodywork is a waste under 120kph, a hinderance around town.
Love its guts.

Too right it sounds good.
It handles similarly to my XB too.
Longer legs but not as versatile

If you like that you might want to try the KTM 950 supermoto. There was a shootout between it and the Ducati hypermotard 1100s and the BMW hp2 Megamoto in the Uk "BIKE" mag and the KTM came out tops. The BMW did have more power but it has a dip between 4000 and 5000 revs.

Been there. tested it for Kiwi Rider 18 months ago.
Value for money - KTM.
Which do I like best - BMW.
And of course while not being as extreme - the Buell Ulysses is as good a handler as either - and also has the ability to convert into a touring or 2-up bike as well.

BMW gave me the HP2 to use over New years last year 06/07 for 4 days. Had to work on the Coromandel and used it to get around while not working.
whar a Firkin machine. in the gravel yeehaaaaaa. twist of the throttle and 140km/h came up very fast. (closed road of course) light and easy to handle.
on the seal double yeehaaa. overtook cars on the tight and twisties straights 4 at a time. what a great noise
When ya pulled up next to a 4 wheel drive ya look down on im its so tall.
and yeah 180kms out of a tank and was not comfy but who cares when ya havin so much fun.
what a machine it was. heaven
wonder if I can have this one this year
