I would like to know

What substance(s) i should use to pack my totally unpacked exhaust
Where i might purchase/find/steal/borrow said material(s) in D'orks
And if I've done my homework, i just drill out the rivets, flick the top of and pack some substance between the can outter and the perforated tube. Not too tight tho. Then I chuck the lid back on and re rivet and Bobs my unkle...

Am i right? anyone wanna help me, who has a rivetter ( one with the type that won't rust and /or rattle?! )

cheers :scooter:

I rang some exhaust company up yesterday, out tamaki way. Wanted 100 bucks after i took the exhaust of and left it with him for a day. I figure i can drill some fookin holes and stuff some 'material' between some pipes in an organised manner before i put the lid on and re rivet her.

fook.. i charge 100 an hour for IT shit.. that im qualified in and i reckon i could do it it in less than an hour and im not fookin qualified.... i just need to

a) understand what the material is
b) where i can get it from
c) if i should beg, borrow or buy a riveter and
d) whether im on track as to how to pack.... this bit i would have thought you'd have known Grahameeboy.. being a fudge packer 'an all :p

churr!!!

Have seen exhaust packing materials at a bike shop recently - probably Henderson Motorcycles (ph 8385899)
Failing that, I would try Kaowool from say Forman (http://www.forman.co.nz/products_detail.php?proid=266) Insulation. It will do the job.

I got all the gear here - except Kaowool - if you like.

ive just made a muffler for my bike.
you can get the packing from any bike shop i think, i got mine from motosxtreme in takanini. i think it was about $40 for a 500gram bag. the stuff i got is sort of woolen/thread/fibrey stuff. the guys there are quite helpful and will be able to help you out and give you some advice about packing it.

there was some packing at work that was like a wire scouring pad (but alot finer and more tightly bunched) which was used for a porsche gt3 muffler. im not sure what the difference is between the two.

I used pink bats in the tread plate muffler I made at school. Worked fine. Yet to take it apart again to see if the packing was pushed around, not sure if I put in enough.

By the way, this idea was reccomended by some mechanic mates, I wasn't just being stupid and cheap
