NIce pictures. Always cool to see NZ from space.

Now, notes from a space programme nerd: The photos were taken the mission before last, in August, STS-118, aboard the Endeavour.

The most recent one was Discovery.
Sheesh, it should be OBVIOUS, the payload is CLEARLY not the Harmony Node, it's the S5 truss assembly. Gosh!

EDIT: Nah, I'm totally wrong actually.

Certainly not the latest mission - Jim2 posted the photo of the upper South Island this time last year:

Stunning pictures though.

Think the latest mission was Atlantis... unless it didn't take off last week. Actually think I remember it didn't cause some warning lights didn't come on or something.

Yeah pic 2 been around for ages.

Has to be - there's cloud over Blenheim. Since when does that happen in real life?

On the space photos subject - anyone got any more on this Chinese nicking NASA photos of the moon thing?

yeah not this mission

I'd love to do astro photography, be so awesome, only the best light, no shit to get in the way between you and the subject (read: air) and an infinite number of angles

I love those pics from space, especially how in the vacuum, and because they have hardcore cameras, the colour quality is amazing.

Bit scary looking out into all that 'nothing' though!

eh there's only nothing for a finite distance then you run into a planet or star, pop to the other side and there's another lot of nothing....

the problem you'll face is the infinite number of fininte nothings.

I was working on the premise that there is a finite number of infinite nothings..... damn.
