umm... so far, not many, at the wharf and early evening.
Not very helpful I know.... Im thinkn Mt Vic could be a good pozie, so could Days bay...or the wharf, although it's usually so damn packed...
I'm not really good at organising things. I was actually hoping someone else would take up the flag and I'd follow :o

I'll have to pass too as fireworks scare the crapolah out of the dog and we have to look after him or he'll destroy the house.

You're welcome to join in

I could be keen to ride in, depends though...cause if the harbour is flat I'll probably be out on it in me mates boat.
I'll keep an eye on this post though and if it looks like there's going to be a decent bunch of bikes I might come along.

What is needed is a time and a rendezvous point. The group can then discuss a useful observation point and ride there to watch the pretty explosions.
A useful place to assemble would be the Caltex station on Old Hutt Road. I could be a starter for this, if the weather's good!
What time are the fireworks scheduled to start? We could meet say 45 minutes prior?

Mt Vic is an excellent place, ya don't get squashed in the crowds or get neck strain from looking up.

Right, here we go then.
If people want to meet up... Mt Vic, time TBA, dress warm, bring a _few_ drinks and if it rains, the fireworks wont be on I'm picking.
I think the time will be around 7.30 onwards...I'll find out and post later on tonight.
Hope to see some people there....

Anyone know if this is still on? And if so...is the venue still the top of Mt Vic?

I reckon every man and his dogs, kids and assorted poultry will be atop Mt Victoria. I don't feel like doing laps, or being run over by the proverbial cow in a Pajero. Is there a Plan B?

Let's just all meet on the motorway!!! I'll stop in the middle lane, feel free to join me, it should be a good view from there!!
But on a more serious note, maybe we could revert to the original suggestion of meeting at the caltex on the old hutt road (the self serve only one).
From there we could probably cruise around the far end of Oriental Parade or somewhere.

Just called the council, it's still all go. The only thing that will stop it from going ahead is gale force winds!

Change of plans for me...I'm now heading out on the boat. It's got a big canopy that should keep me nice and dry should the rain start to fall!

Hokay...
if the show starts around 9-ish, I'll be up for meeting up around... 8.30-ish? But where should we be meeting up? I ain't been here for one of these 'spectacles' before, so I guess I'll follow the crowd (beeeeehhhh). My flattie, Dave, reckons Mount Vic will be as crowded as the waterfront and that the waterfront would be a pretty good view. I reckon I'll need stilts either way.
Anyone? Can someone make an executive decision?

My plan was to go to the top of Mt Vic to watch the fireworks ... being driven in a cage, of course there was no parking ... didn't see anyone I knew, so thought Oriental Parade would be better. Got stuck in a traffic jam on the way down cos people in cages are idiots ... until 'The people's hero' came along, with sidekick, trying to lanesplit.  ...er, I guess you had to be there... anyway going down the other side of the hill got so thouroghly stuck in traffic on the corner coming down onto the parade, thought, 'Fuck it!' and stoped the car in the middle of the road and watched the fireworks from there.... great view actually.
To summarise: My brilliantly executed plan of perfect timing of traffic jam and start of fireworks, meant me and mine had a perfect view of the whole thing. :niceone:
How did everyone else fare?

Real good - went out on a mate's boat so we were reasonably close to the barge. Good weather too I reckon. Pretty awesome show as usual - I liked the gold, really glittery ones with the bigger bits that shot out as the rest of it glittered away! :niceone:

So did anybody actually end up doing this gig on their bikes, as originally suggested in this thread?
