They're like a temperature gauge for the Ozone layer... watch it carefully as it changes colour; you'll soon realise the significance of banning hair sprays and 30 year old refrigerators.

That's about it. Their bling doesn't count and it is statistically probable that some of them are convicted child molesters...however this is because it is bling from people who have not received any green bling themselves and do not have enough posts to add any weight to their bling.

So is there any way to tell if it is ment to be green or red?

Thought it was grey? Unless 's been playing round again.

The comment that came with it perhaps otherwise, do you really care?

Purple bling? I think you can buy a cream for that.

I think it's blue but it can depend on your monitor settings - monitors rarely show the true coulour unless they have been professionally calibrated.
It will appear grey to some purple to others and blue to Scotsmen.
I have attached a shot of my recent bling so you can see the differences between green, red and neutral bling.

:Oi: Not everybody you get a purple rep from is a child molester  :girlfight:
You'll find that sometimes the colour will change. If it does change then you know it's from me (mine are the ONLY ones that will ever change). The reason it's purple in the 1st place is because my rep count is below the threshold for green, so it gives you a 0 rep points purple coloured one. However, later on when I remember to, I manually change it to approximately the green rep points I should theoretically be able to hand out.

Largest signed Int available ..... of course then the very next one green rep would wrap around into the negatives so they'd have more red rep then I do.

I'm the only one with a full line of red. Besides, rep doesn't mean Jacques Schiite so why not :)

Now that is almost true.
You can not become a senior member if you don't have positive rep I seem to recall.
I guess that rule doesn't worry Admins though... ;)

You're not wrong mate. In fact I reckon rep should be removed from what is required to become a senior member so that it's simply time & post count based.

Which raises an interesting question... if we all started off with no bling - how did we bling our way out of it?

Assuming you are not negatively-blung to start with, your bling begins to carry weight once you reach a certain post count.
I think.
So I guess that's how the system bootstrapped itself back in the days of yore.
Does anyone remember when Nicko sat at the top of the "highest rep points" list for ages, with, like, a whole two green boxes?

Okay - a contentious suggestion (and off-topic from the original post):
The rep system is now showing signs of a classic inflation scenario. The more rep people have, the more they give to others, who in turn give more etc etc...
Members can now get to "green bling whore" status (a relatively new classification) quite quickly. In two years time, it is conceivable that someone might be a "green bling whore" before they become a senior member - especially now that Rant & Rave posts don't count toward post counts. The whole rep system will become meaningless.
So - how about a mass "devaluation" of rep? Drop everyone's rep points to perhaps 20% of current value, to allow a new gradual build up?

I would instead suggest a re-scaling of the rep point indicators and mouse-over descriptions with a logarithmic progression similar to the various grades of flashing post count indicators.
