Yeah I only go to check out the sights and get free stuff. Now I get paid to go by the Army!!!

But yeah if anyone sees the Army doing a demonstration of the new LAV3, give a wave as I might piling out the back of one! ..... Ahh well, gets me in for free and I get to cruise around in cool kit!

had free tickets last 3 years and i must say its gotten worse and worse in that the last year i went you were limited with a token to ONE free Beer... whats all that about? i will only go again this year if its free, otherwise its hardley worth paying the money for if youve been to at least one and checked it out... Well thats my view anyway.

just reading ur post as i type Hoon, i will come anyway to say hey then! heh.

I've never been to Big Boys toys cos I've heard a lot of over rated opinions about it. I'll go this year though, just so I can add my opinion! :whocares:

Hmmm, how are they getting the LAV there? In peices then reassemble it? chopper/airdrop? they are such a POS, tell everyone the $$ for the machines which aren't even able to be driven on NZ roads

hhhmmm, well ive seen them on the road, and one of them got a speeding ticket..... hence they can be driven on the road.....

And personally after being in one and having a good look at one, they are pretty mint and far better than anything else we have had... the armour is upgradeable (yes it wont take on a main battle tank but its not designed for that) it will stop dead a 7.62mm round, the 30mm cannon is accurate to over 1500m, it has full audio and visual aids for ALL of the troops in the LAV, and it even has aircon and a microwave....

The highlight for me last year was a gyrocopter they had there. It was powered by a mazda rotary (13b turbo) engine. Very cool.

I'm with KK... the last few years have been a waste of money for me due to the large absence of any decent bikes other than whats already in the show rooms (the notable exception being the B-King concept) so it might be better this year.. but with only one free beer its hard to see the value

Ill give it a miss, Been before thought it was crap. I can go walk round Harvey Norman to look at the same stereo gear. I did like looking at the Lambos but once is enough. BUT WHATS THE FREE BEER, I never got a free beer. HELL I MISSED FREE BEER. (%$^@$# $#@$^$ 3^$$*#@)
The bikes maybe worth going and looking, hmmmmmm, and scab up my FREE BEER. I wonder if I can get more than one as I missed out lst time.

Couldn't agree more, KK. I won't be going.
But, then again, I know people who've been to them all and loved them all. They ain't bike people, though...

Did you see it? and if you did, what did you think of the pipe???

The Pipe was Crap. Didn't get a photo of the side with the exhaust sorry but the bike is above in the glass. Managed to sneak in a photo of a beautiful Gn250 :D.

well - what was there that you couldn't see in an auckland dealer?
the mt-01 maybe - which i was very impressed by....
man - that thing looks so mean from the rear...
but at "about 30k" it's a bit pricey.
looks like a piece of sculpture to me though - i REALLY like it.
but - other than that - a $16 yawnfest.

and - the KTM 990 Superduke wasn't there!
you'd expect it to be as it's on the poster and the ticket!!!
it was also very hot in the halls - bad or no A/C
and FUCK it will be busy tomorrow - so dress for sweat if you go.

HALO 2 and FORZA at the XBOX stand were the highlights for me.

For the "biggest bike show in the country" it was kinda small wasn't it?

SpankMe
13th November 2004, 09:37
I just got back from it and for $16 it's worth a quick browse. Just took 20mins to wonder around looking at what was on show and perving at the show girlies.

Like most shows it’s pretty boring just looking at stuff when you much rather be having a play. Hmmm, now was I talking about the toys or the girlies. :bleh:

I agree ! It was tiny, not many impressive bikes either.... much more to look at just strolling down Barry's pt road. I was disappointed that there weren't many accessory shops (like motomail) or goods. In previous years Elf have had a stand. That new Yamaha was interesting, obviously the Triumph rocket was good to look at too.

I was very disappointed with the show. $16 to get in and $5 for parking and all I bought was some beef jerky. The bike show was very small, and since I have a habit of doing the bike shop rounds, there wasn't really anything there that I hadn't seen already.

At least the parking for bikes is free, and you can't get much closer to the entrance.

I decided to go by car cos I couldn't be bothered lugging my helmet and jacket around the show.

I was there for 3 to 4 hours. Quite enjoyed myself. Have been to two previously. LAV3 looks like a cool toy to have, FMX and trials were cool.

Had a nice dribble over the bikes, was good to see the MV F4 1000 up close. Had a natter to a few of the dealers there.

I dont mind the GSX-R K5's exhaust that much.
I see they had a K4 1000 for sale (new) for $17k there! Bargain!

Was a pretty humid day, was a bit difficult being stuck crammed in a pavillion with a thousand stupid people. "No no, thats ok, you just stop in the middle of the aisle, no one wants to get past. cock."

Asimo was cool to see, but his show was a little lame.

The RC cars brought back to me how much I wanted one when I was younger, the gas ones are so quick! Nearly bought an RC plane.

30UTD and I flew to Auckland and went to Big Boys Toys. That was the excuse to get out of Christchurch for the weekend and visit friends and rellies.
We got reminded why we don't live in Auckland - a caravan lost it's wheel on the motorway just after an on ramp - 3 lanes had to merge into 1 lane at 11am Saturday morning, traffic banked up for miles.
The show was OK, not really worth the $16 to get in, but I still enjoyed it. Best part of the trip was seeing my mate and her partner - non bike riders!
