Fuck! I just set the valve clearances for him on Saturday. We didn't damage the tank or something? That fuel hose was a bitch to get off. Shit.

EDIT: He says in a text it's leaking from the drainage screw. So weird. What is this?

chancers are that its not the drain screw, and thats just were the petrol is running down onto, if the screw is tight then the metal will have to be cracked for a leak to come out.

He did mention he'd been fiddling with the carbs at some point; perhaps something overtightened or whatever. Carbs are very delicate things.

Anybody know of any temporary fix to get him home? I don't have a trailer, but I could possibly bring him tools before I go to work.

find the leak, apply duct tape

Lol I don't think duct tape will hold fuel back. GiJoe1313 used chewing gum on a tank leak once though, hehe.

Why does that surprise me about GIJoe, i swear when he does things like that we should all have the theme to MacGyver programmed into our phones and play it when he's fixing the bike :)

I'll be going through there in about 20 minutes. But I'm on the bike. Reasonable tool kit but.

He suggests that clamping the drain hose might fix it.

Ixion

Sounds like the carb is flooding and the drain hose is doing exactly what its supposed to do.

The Pastor

i just texted him that...

sounds like the leak is coming out of the overflow hose? hes muttering somthing about a hose, so i told him to clamp it shut, common sence really.

what do u guys think of riding with a fuel leak? i've done it before (it was like pouring out the fuel tap) petrol evaportates really quickly and with the wind and heat of the engine, i dont think it would pool at all?

I'm just setting off now from Mangere Bridge with a spare CB250RS carb (who knows, it's Keihin too, might have useful bits) and some goo and gunk and bits and bobs.

the good old "hit it till it works" method.

Magua

Something lodged in the carb. Whack the float boal, shake the hell out of it and rev it like mad down the road. Did the trick.

Thanks to Ixion, Pyro, Xerxes and renegade.

Fucking Wises.co.nz. I ended up in bloody Alfriston (same street name), winding out the little RS flat out along a 100kph bumpy road.... and then suddenly it turns into gravel while I've still only managed to slow to 80kph. Good signage over the crest.

Anyway by the time I'd got to the real road he was on it was all over. God bless Ixion and Bloody Big Hammers :)

By the way, I've got to get some pipes as loud as Magua's. Coming back up the motorway it was like Moses parting the cagers.
