Hi Yawl

Whats the difference between these two bikes? What are the good and bad points, etc.

From what I've heard the 250rr - is the bestestest - what about the hurricane? Does it generate gail force emotions too????????????????????????????????????

From memory... the CBR250RR has a banana swing arm where the CBR250R doesnt, the CBR250RR has twin front disc's where the CBR250R only has a single front disc, i believe the power is the same (not too sure on that one)

You can try this website http://hondacbr.netfirms.com/

Other people are more clued up about the differences than me :niceone: but those are some of the majors.....

Your memory is shocking!!
The 250RR has a gull swingarm (not a banana:banana:).
The Hurricane also has two front disks.

The Hurricane was made in '87, you'll probably find the 250RR years around '89 to '91.
I've riden both, the RR seemed a little faster but it may have just been that I was used to the Huricane.
You'll also pay more for the RR, my wife just sold her Huricane for $2800 and it was in pretty good condition with about 40ks on the clock.

Test ride em both and buy the one you like the best!

The difference? Well heres a brief history of the bikes:

MC14 - 1985? - aka CBR250F had only bakini fairings and higher ratio final drive. 45hp, 153kg. Single headlamp.
MC17 - 1987 - aka CBR250R(H) Full fairings and lower final drive (better acceleration) 45hp, 155kg. First one pictured in first post. Single head lamp.
MC19 - 1988-1990 - aka CBR250R(J) + CBR250R(K) almost the same as the MC17, but only CBR250 with single front brake, fuel pump (all the others have twin front disks and gravity feed petrol) and along with the MC17 had the CBR250 motor with the highest torque at lower revs than all the others (the best in other words). 45hp, 154kg. Dual head round headlights.
MC22 - 1991-1993 - aka CBR250RR(L)+CBR250RR(N). Totally new setup from the previous - total overhaul on frame, gullarm, detachable can, flat type vacuum piston, more racy sitting position (i.e. cramped). 45hp, 157kg. Look at second pic in first post. Twin headlamps.
MC22 - 1994 - 1996? - aka CBR250RR(R) almost the same as the RR but produces only 40hp - due to new regulations in Japan at the time. You cannot de-restrict this - you have to change the head, carbs, cams etc to get any more out of it.

They stopped producing them in '96 or '97 can't remember which.

Also generally - they should all be able to reach the 180km/h speed limiter. They all have a rev limiter at 18,500 rpm which throws you forward quite a lot when it kicks in. The MC19s & MC22 can also have a wider front tyre. Have a look at this link for pictures of each one: http://www.cr-x.org/cbr250/pictures/CBR250models/

The biggest difference between them is the price. You should be able to buy absolutely mint MC19 for $3k, and a MC22 for $4.5k-5k.

what you really want to do is buy a ZXR250 mate :) cheaper than a RR and has more mumbo!

i have been in the presence of both bikes, my mate had a hurricane and i had the RR. pretty much of a muchness. but i agree, flag the honda and buy a ZXR250 or a 3LN yamaha 250 (DONT CONSIDER THE 2KR=SHIT) you can pick these up now for bugger all and there are always heaps of parts where as the hondas are quite specialised and harder to get parts for.

I'm about to but a FZR. I think its the 2KR. You got me worried now. Whats the problem with the 2KR? The 2KR has the twin headlights and the 3LN has the single headlight right?

they are probally pretend ram air things. I would personally go for the cbr250rr they are very quick when ridden by someone fast (Andy1 for instance) and have the best 250 looks

I did a google search for a 3LN yamaha and it looks like the bike that Chris from Mt Eden M-Cycles wants to sell me. It is a black-silver bike, 1989 and just under 23000k's. I had no time to look at it properly - just 30 seconds as I was on my lunch break and running really late. The guy who's looking after it says it's in really good condition. But the fairings are buggered - and they are not fixing it. Thats why it is going so cheap - they say. Also it looks really shabby without the fairings all dusty and dirty.

This bike has twin round headlights - which one is it? Also can u give me a list of questions to ask the chaps about the bike.

Thanks.

man buy the fizzer with the warrenty. And mayb just get a new helmet and second hand gear. But remember always try negotiate a price rather than settling for what they want. if they are asking $2500 wave $2000 cash in front of them or say throw in a new helmet or something. Good luck :headbang:

So whats the problem with the FZR 2KR??? I'm going to try and buy one today. Allthough I'm not sure if it's the 2KR, it's a '88 model and I think I've seen a '88 3LN at a dismantlers.

they are the bottom of the barrel & have less power than a 3LN.
3LN has deltabox frame, EXUP exhaust, more powerful engine and is not restricted (well, mine and my mates one wasn't). wider use of light weight components and are electronically fuel pumped (2KR is gravity feed).
but overall the 2KR and 3LN are roughly the same price but when you got to sell a 2KR you will have to basically pay a dealership to take it off your hands.
i have personally owned one and loved it, just as fast as the ZXR250 but not as race oriented.
a mate had one for over 2 years and commuted every day (40km one way) on it with very little dramas.
they made them both of them from about 87 to about 94-95 (not sure), i had a 1990. there are heaps of different styles of fairings for em, like 10 or 15. ie red bull decals and smoking joe. tho only seen em on the net.

They are wannabe ram-air, and dont actually do anything apart from look wannabe (except maybe at very high speed), because the structure of the airbox is kinda weird under them IIRC from the 400...

Thanks, good info. I didn't buy the FZR 2KR in the end cause it had a handling problem. Above 80, it became twitchy. I wasn't the one riding it as I haven't got my licence yet, so my dad rode it. He was scared shitless at how hard to control it was, so decided not to buy it. Bugger.

its different with the 250 (on the CBR) as the boxy thingy's only go to the frame nothing else..... That reminds me, i have too steal my tubey thingy's from Milky to put back on my ZXR.....
