To the GAS Econo-mee.

Yes the bike has finally left, gone, returned, never to be ridden again (by me anyway). I would suppose the retailer would fix the swing arm and sell it on to an unsupecting Newbie Rider like i was 18 months ago. :banana:

I have learned a very important lesson, don't buy unless you explore all the aspects of your bike including where it is made, who the retailer is, has the Bike got any history - by this I mean I was promissed by the retailer that all is well but indeed when things went wrong they did'nt want to help, apart from doing the bear minimum.

Now I can get on with my riding and in the market for a good commuter, sub 250, so I'll be setting up a list and taking a long look at the bikes on my "wish list"

So far I Have:
Yamaha SX4 Scorpio
Suzuki GN

Other half wants me to look at Scooters, but I'll be hard pushed to look at them - any recomendations in this category anyone ?

I've heard good things about scorpios. Admittedly I haven't been on a GN or a scorpio, but the scorpio is a bit nicer looking IMHO, and it was Kiwirider bike of the year in the 250cc class.
I think both would make suitable learner/commuter bikes.
Have you been to a bike shop and looked at them both, and had a sit on them?
Depending on how tall you are, road legal trail-type bikes (dual purpose) are also quite good for commuting apparently (I have one, and love it, but I don't commute as such). They are a bit more expensive, but could be worth a look. I'm pretty sure the Yamaha XT225 (also called an XT250) has the same engine as the scorpio.

I've never been on a scooter, but they do have more carrying capacity than a bike, and I think they provide a bit more protection from the weather.

hey i was chatting to a lady the other day she has a GZ250 2001 for sale it has done about 6000ks looks to be in really good condition 2 female owners never been dropped looks like it has been really well cared for!
she is looking for about 3900 for it but id say you can bargin her down!
the GZ is a bloody nice bike if you want to see pics flick me a pm!

somebody on kb has one for 4k which is a bargain....

zxr and cbr are nice also....also suzuki bandit..... yamaha fzr 250....

don't get a suzuki gsx though or kawasaki gpx...they are evil

hyosung i personally do not like as the build quality is cheap and poor in comparrison to jap bikes, even a 1983 jappa is better built. (ever seen the welds on a hyosung!!!!!)

but they hold thier value well...

rode one once....for all of 10 minutes.....sack of crap....couldnt wait to get off it

Aye the little ol'hornet is a fair little dream bike to have and ride. It'll get you in places with flair and style and is quite perky in the twisties :yes:

As for bikes please don't get a GN250 if you want to progress your riding. They are an excellent commuter but that is it. I had one and 6 months later it was gone. The Hyo was a far better bike to ride.

If you want to keep the bike long term, go for the Hornet. I have followed GIJoe on his many tiki tours to the ends of the earth and back and always enjoyed hearing his bike as I tootled behind him.

Besides how many people want to bag the Hyo's I would rather have a 12 month old Hyo than a 15 yr old CBR that has been dropped, rolled and areseholed more times than a 2 bit hooker on K'rd.

Thats my opinion anyway. Hornet, Hyo............GN250........then a raped CBR :)

A 15 year old CBR/ZXR is a better bike than the Hyosung in a technical sense. Better motor, better brakes, better (read adjustable) suspension. Probably similar reliablity overall.

The problem is you have to find a good one. Buying a Hyosung is like buying McDonalds. You know exactly what to expect and if it's not up to scratch you can get it fixed.

CBR/ZXR is a bit more like picking a burger place at random in the Yellow Pages. Could get Burger Fuel.. Could get dodgy takeaways.

I Learnt to ride on a gn250 and it was great... dunno what the problem is... And I'ved progressed quite nicely into my newest bike *sigh* gotta love them new bikes mmmm... anyway they've stopped making gn250 now so you'd be hard pressed to find a new one... to be honest I'm disappointed 25 years and they stop making them:gob:... I dont care they were a great learner bike :bleh:

I guess they've stopped making them because of their pedigree. 25years is a long time and now with the Scorpio is here and taking the GNs buyers Suzuki are looking to fill the market with an updated bike.
