Apologies in advance for this rant, but man there are some things that really wind me up.

I work in an aluminium joinery factory, currently working at manic pace to get everything finished by close down. Late this afternoon an elderly lady came in to the office in a bit of a distressed state, she had a sick husband in the car and had locked herself out of the house. The local glazing company suggested we were her best bet to get in, as we could simply "pop" the glass out. Huh? they repair windows for a living and are more than capable of popping glass themselves. Strike one!

Problem is I have no one able to drop and go at the moment, so I rang a locksmith for her (this company offers 24/7 service in our area) I explained the situation to this man, and he said 'Oh I can get there tomorrow" So this couple should sleep in their car tonight? was my response.

Oh well no I will come but I wont do it for less than $200. Fair enough this lady says, how far away will you be as I want to get my husband home as he is not well. Not sure what his answer was but she said she would see if she could find someone else. Strike two! :angry2:

What the hell is wrong with people these days!!! :brick:

An elderly lady with a sick husband in tow, needs someone to help her out and she gets the royal run around. I said to her give me a moment and I will come and break a window for you to get in......LOL

Next call to our local security firm, yes says the man there, but I am here on my own, be about half an hour? All good! :2thumbsup

I went to her place after work (this is a small town and we all know where others live) to make sure all was ok, and they were inside and happy. Interestingly enough her home is old and has timber joinery, not something that we could have "popped" the glass out of at all! Small hammer did the trick apparently!!

Take care of our oldies please people, they are precious!

Rant over.

I have an elderly and unwell Mom in Thames so I cant be there quickly to assist when she inevitably has something go wrong. I have to rely on other people to help her when she gets stuck, or something breaks down.

Why on earth cant people simply take a few moments of their time to simply assist. This time of the year is busy, and can be very stressful for us all. I just put myself in the ladies place, her stress far outweighed anything happening in my life right now, so I help.

Good on you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to help her. I would like to think that someone would do that for my dear old Mum too.

We get that at times, little old ladies have problems with their blinds, they ring us up in a panic,we get there same day, sometimes within the hour if not busy.Fix the problem usually in home or else good enough for that night, get parts and complete the fix.Sometimes even do it for free,if only 15 mins job,it's what some people call service and good business practice,I picked up a $2000 job a short while later after not charging an elderly lady for 10 mins repair, her daughter was impressed with our service.

See! It is not rocket science at all, shit I am going to be old one day (for those cheeky little shits on here, I mean ancient, dodery and incontinent, not old like i am right now) I want to be treated well.

My Mom has a pet mechanic who will drop and call with a new battery for her car anytime, a pet plumber that pops in on his way home, pet vet ( har har) who brings flea treament for her cat. Interestingly enough though, her Doctor makes her collect her morphine scripts in person......hmmmmm best I not get started actually.

That old story from back in the '80's. Not possible with the newer stuff apparently.

Take care of our oldies please people, they are precious!
Tell that to the three old buggers I have locked in the safe. Ungrateful buggers keep wanting their medications, zimmer frames and the TV tuned to *Abe Simpsons' voice* "Maaaatlock".

j/k!

what annoys me about old people is their expectance for me to formulate a simple explination for something that is complex in terms that they'll understand, for something they dont need to know about.

I cant wait till the rest of the world has caught up with my ability to manage technology.

My late mother locked herself out one night - came out to wave goodbye to us, we turn at the lights, she goes back up the drive, only to find the sliding door had locked itself - we were long gone! She went to the neighbour's to ring a locksmith (her place had aluminium windows and my husband had put security locks on them all for her), who arrived about an hour later. He changed the locks for her, no problem there, but refused to accept a cheque. She didn't have a credit card so thankfully she had good neighbours and they gave the guy their credit card number and happily took her cheque. Did he think she was a bad risk? She obviously had her own home and he knew where to find her, so what would the problem be accepting a cheque for something like this?

When I rang her the following day (we didn't get home until about 11pm and she didn't let us know at the time) and found out what had happened I was really annoyed. That was bad enough but then she had a couple of people she thought were helping her who ripped her off too - one was a home handyman who conned her into lending him money and the other was a cleaner who made her pay months in advance then wouldn't turn up. We sorted both out, but what is it about some people who don't think twice about trying it on with vulnerable people?

I like people who rip old folks off...
The work out is VERY pleasureable...

Cheapest option sounds like a broken window to get into the house (pick a small one) then boarded up for the glazier when they're good and ready 9i.e. no $200 urgent callout.

Mom - you are so right. Society should be judged by the way it treats it's (truly) needy. From your post... I'm not so impressed.
