Hi

I just put a new fairly aggressive mitas (http://www.motorradreifen-diskont.at/bilder/mitasc04.jpg) knobby on the back of my wr450 and took it around the block to test I put it on OK.

I thought the clutch was slipping in 2nd and 3rd when I "gave it a bit" but looking at the black line on the road it seems the tire is just spinning. The front edges of the knobs look a bit melted...:eek5:

Is this just a wearing in thing or am I just going to have to baby it on the road. The tire compound is medium hard BTW.

cheers

If the road surface was gravel then you have some serious issues, but I read tarmac, and twist of wrist with noice softish knobs on tyre.

Dont test your tyre fitting ability with knobbies on the sealed road would be my advice.

try using it in the dirt, the tyre might last longer  or just buy some road tyres.

the bike is road legal as I sometimes need to ride to local riding areas (not enough cars in our family)

First off all new tyres are slippery, you should try remember that.

I think i've seen those chunky Mitas appearing on a few bikes down here too, if they are the ones I'm thinking of then you should be fairly satisfied in the dirt with them, but generally speaking the better in the dirt a tyre is, the more you need to babysit them on seal.
I imagine the wr trys to put a fair bit of power to the road down in the lower gears so yes spinning is to be expected and watch the high speed cornering.

i just quite simply don't ride on the road. If you need to ride to spot's near by like the others said just take it nice and slowly. No one likes having to replace tyres haha.

maybe mitas mean that crap about "not for on road use"
